  • ZR optics are pluggable transceivers used in the field of optical networking and telecommunications, and are designed to support high-speed, long-distance data transmission over optical fiber networks. The latest version, ZR+, has greater line-rate coverage than ZR and a longer range (≥120km).
ZR/ZR+ optics offer several advantages over other optical networking options, making them a popular choice with network service providers for specific applications. Those advantages include longer distance, simplicity (no intermediate amplifiers or repeaters are required for signal regeneration), lower cost, lower latency, and DWDM compatibility.
ZR/ZR+ optics render some network equipment unnecessary. However, some of the test functionality that was performed by that equipment, now falls to network operator to perform, particularly qualifying the underlying fiber. The OneAdvisor 800 provides techs with a comprehensive methodology to turn up and troubleshoot circuits with popular ZR/ZR+ optics, including configuring and tuning the optic, running an end-to-end Ethernet bit error rate test, simultaneously monitoring coherent statistics, and performing optical spectrum analysis.
