Northrop made a large flying wing bomber in the late 1940's, the XB-35 and YB-49. Ironically it also had a wingspan of 172 feet, same as the B2. Sadly the fly by wire technology needed to solve for its stability problems kept it from being accepted into service so we ended up with the crappy B-36 Peacemaker instead. I believe if the YB-49 had entered service upgraded versions of it would still be in service today (unlike the B-36 that had a very short career) just like the B-52 has done, but it would be 10 years older than its B-52 stable mates.

Fun fact In the rear exhaust they use space shuttle tiles to absorb heat gases. The facets and angles deflect radar the paint {ram] radar absorbent material is classified. after so many flights the tiles have to be replaced. What’s neat about the tiles you can heat them up white hot and still hold them in your bare hands their luke warm but insides are i forget the temps.

The US has an amazing array of purpose driven aircraft. Just amazing. We have a way of sticking to it until we fill the need. We can go anywhere and do anything necessary.

The B2 was made public in 88 and arrived at Whiteman AFB in 93. It only became "operational" in 97

F117 was the only time Kelly Johnson was wrong. He was an aerodynamic expert, so he was right but underestimated software capabilities.

I believe that you are talking about the SR-71, which used two Buick nail head V8's on a cart to start the jets.

How is it that EVERY video about military aircraft ends up having the same old "how to start a B52" content in it? Start cart, and mini explosive shot gun like chargers. EVERY MILTARY AIRCRAFT VIDEO HAS THIS IN IT! I don't think we need any more videos about the B52 Flutus. Stick to the flying wing from start to end, or the other bombers like the Bone.

I believe it was a major factor in ending the Cold War. The Soviet Union couldn’t afford to develop a way to detect it or develop a similar aircraft. The Soviets knew the F117 was only the start. And I’m not sure what a 100% profit is. It cost nothing to develop and build?
