Makes me long for the days of lingering over endless hot cups of tea and plates of dainty finger sandwiches with friends, and hours of real, in-person conversations. Great video, and beautiful job on the food!
I'm pretty fortunate to still be able to experience that. My friends and I catch up once a week for morning tea that lingers into lunch. We all bring in food to share. We're not phone people so it is nice to meet in person for face-to-face conversations. You would totally be welcomed 🙂 I hope you get to experience that again. Have a wonderful blessed day.
Not as common in the States but certainly not unknown. There are places that have such teas and some organizations like to hold luncheons like once a month and occasionally one will be like a "High Tea". It is very special, elegant and gracious. I've been to a couple and it was very much appreciated. We visited Scotland 22 years ago fir a month to his family and despite the fact they unbeknownst to us, they bought coffee (after all, Americans are coffee drinkers big time) we drank tea the entire time! Now from programs and movies on CZcams, the coffee industry has hit Britain pretty good, too! It's becoming a very small world. No matter where you go, you will find a bit of home.🤗
Love to have this kind of life as well .
Now days people just want to text you. When we have dinner at my house or mom and dads house, we take all of the phones! The teenagers eat real fast and want their phones but we don't give them theirs until everyone is up from the table. I don't know of anything that can't wait for an hour to spend time with family. These dinners are few and far between so we try and spend as much time we can. I tell the teenagers that the world isn't going to end just because they don't have their phones! 🤗😊
@@shannonbales9148 I’m Swedish and my brother’s children are teenagers too, but they wouldn’t dream of bringing their phones to the dinner table 😮
For a luncheon, to keep sandwiches fresh, place a damp tea towel over them before serving.
My mom taught me that also. She worked in food service.

Yeah, ok, but maybe it would be more professional not to squeeze the moisture from the tuna in his hands but to, oh, I don't know, maybe use this kitchen tool called a STRAINER!

Cut the tops and bottoms off bell peppers first, make a vertical slit and flatten the pepper slowly. You'll avoid seeds flying everywhere, be able to trim the white membrane off cleanly and cut the pepper into sticks for dicing. Thin-bladed serrated knives cut soft or ripened produce like tomatoes and mangoes far better than a smooth blade will.

A caterer's trick: if you make these ahead, arrange your platter, cover in lightly damp paper towels, then cover tightly in plastic so the bread doesn't dry out. Refrigerate as long as overnight. Unwrapped, the sandwiches will be dry in about 3 hours. Wrapped without the towels, they'll still dry out in your fridge.
Don't unwrap until the party is about to start. Take a bow! Also, add a touch of Dijon to the egg salad, and some capers or minced cornichon to the tuna.

Buy or bake regular, unsliced bread and slice it horizontally (after slicing off top, bottom, and ends. These will make great croutons.)

I love this so much
If you get an egg slicer it makes quick work of chopping eggs. Put the egg in the slicer one way, then turn and put it in and slice it the other way. So quick and easy!
or use a pastry knife!
That's what I do!
I also use an egg slicer. So much quicker and I love the little egg white cubes that are the result.

The bakery in my village add a little condensed milk to the mayonnaise and gives a lovely addition to the bread and bread rolls with salad in them.

That sounds absolutely revolting.
You are right about how good that must have been. That might be an old recipe secret. My mother worked in the kitchen of a large private "members only" club. She used some of the things she learned there, for our meals at home. One was making a salad of shredded green cabbage, carrots, apple and small cubed pineapple. The dressing was actually mayonnaise, thinned out with canned condensed milk (regular - not sweetened). It's amazing the flavor boost the milk gives it. I think this type of dressing was more used back in the 1950's through the 1960's. I still have old cookbooks that incorporate mayonnaise into some recipes.

The key to delicious tuna salad is the addition of lots of chopped egg. Tuna, egg, chopped dill pickles and mayonnaise. Delicious!

LOL I consider myself a good cook, so it's crazy that finger sandwiches have always stumped me! LOL the bread always crumbles or gets squished with my giant fingers. Yours look so delicious though, that I'm going to attempt these.

Assemble the sandwiches while the bread is frozen.
you can get your local bakery to cut off the crusts and slice the bread length-wise as shown here. keep the crusts for crouton making later.
Delish and stylish with bread cuts. Where we get the long soft breads? Not seen in local grocery stores.
