I am a RN, just started my first ICU travel job. Soooooooooo much respect to you going from your NP position and going bedside to be an RN. And even more love being a nurse of color as well!!! Kill it, Queen!!!
I’m a nurse also. I agree with you that she deserves respect for going back to the bedside. But - Skin color really doesn’t, and shouldn’t have anything to do with anything. Let’s get past that. We are all made in the same image of God, our skin color is just a shallow physical genetic expression and it’s way past time we act like educated humans (especially as healthcare providers) on this topic.
@@sarahr3747 I appreciate your input. I agree one's race should not matter. I said what I did as a means of encouragement for other people of color to enter the field. I often times am met with resistance and left without a sense of belonging and community when I am on the floor. I honestly do not what care what one's background is, as I am welcoming to all. But when I have heard time and time again from patients that they feel misunderstood and neglected and they tell me why, that lets me know that having that community and commonality amongst those around you is important and that goes for every type of person across the board. I hear you, but I will always encourage for a broadening of all races/ethnicities in nursing :). We can't get past it until we improve upon it.
Thank you. I’m a nurse if color and I am sick and tired of hearing the color thing. My brain my determination my devotion my education my family support my self esteem is how I got to where I am and where I am going. Not my color. Never has been an issue
@@sarahr3747 Stop burying your head in the sand with this “colorblind” nonsense. You ignoring the very real impacts of white cultural hegemony is nothing but cowardice.
@@sarahr3747 girl stfu. Yall swear. If you don’t know how much race matters in healthcare you’re crazy. Black RNs are totally treated different. Get from under whatever hiding spot you’ve been under and pay attention to all the nurses coming out telling their stories. Are you saying they are lying? People that act like racism doesn’t exist is the problem
I had so many Jamaican nurses on my last travel assignment. I loved it. They are very go with the flow and some of the most non judgmental nurses I know.
Yes! Certified Nurse Midwife here! Back to bedside doing travel nursing making nearly double 💚💚
Yeah this money is crazy!
Where ya'll work at? I'm a telehealth NP let's just say in the pacific area and NP's are compensated really well. I bet it depends on where you work, age, experience to name a few. Not trying to discourage anyone but at 50 years of age and, 20 plus years as RN/NP t'was dun with the bedside a long time agO. No one ain't gonna pay me enough at this stage, mmh! mmh! Been done a while. Good luck ya'll! Welcome to paradise should you want to give it a thought. The pay is great and the sunshine is heavenly! My old back ain't lifting another human, not even my grandbaby. I'll die poor with a smile.
I'm also a CNM going back to bedside-finished my first week and am still working through a gazillion Healthstream modules. And assisted in my first delivery yesterday and I felt like childbirth was going back 25 years. A HUGE reminder of why I became a midwife. Ugh.
I’m very happy that you are going to enjoy these high paying rates. I just finished my first assignment as a travel RN, and passed NP boards 2 days ago. Don’t know when I’m gonna start looking for NP job😂. Happy for you!
Congrats 🎉🎊🎈🙌🏾
@@NaturallyPrettyBrownK26 thank you dear🥰
😂
Congratulations!
@@jasmineg2503 thanks 😇
You're a real boss! Im a current nursing student at my school, I'm a junior and I start clinicals this Tuesday. I stumbled upon your channel and I'm glad I did, thank you for being transparent and honest about your time as an NP, the first video of yours I ever saw was the video where you finally quit as an NP. I look forward to watching many more of your videos!
I’m a junior in nursing school too! Good luck to you during these crazy times!!!! I’m currently in my psych rotation
This is CRAAAZZYY! I’m a psych NP & I decided to take my first psych travel assignment. I’m still working telemedicine one day a week but this is my first week on the floor after years! 🥴🙏🏽 Best wishes to you too sister nurse!
They didn't require you to have recent inpatient experience before taking the travel assignment?
How is the assignment going?
How well does telemedicine pay please?
😩 I’m thinking about doing the same! Working remotely part time
A black and woman psych provider?!? You licensed to work in Virginia? Asking for myself lmao
Ok this is very timely... I'm a NP strongly considering getting back into the travel RN role because the rates and insane right now.. and these are rates that we will never see as an NP. Money talks, but I believe you I will work for it!
Also after starting my new NP outpatient job I'm having trouble finding fulfillment. How many times have I heard...."I wanted to see Dr.X but he wasn't available for 3 months so here I am to see you.". 😐
Awesome! FNP here and have been traveling as an ED RN for the past 8 months and no regrets and NO debt’
Time to pay down that mortgage and beef up that retirement account and savings for an early-ish retirement.
💯 with you!!
@@AstroZombie1 For sure Alex!!
@@analeyva8655 you know bout them 10 yr mortgages!? Let’s make it 5! 🙌
@@AstroZombie1 🙌💪
Just watching this makes me begin to panic. So glad to be out of the hospital. You are amazing!!! You have my respect!!! I could never do that again!
This pandemic really changes your prespective. I am in my first semester for FNP...but decided to start my own agency
I’m so glad you’re doing this! Thank you for taking us along the journey 🤍
Your a boss! So proud of you for following your heart and not settling for being dissatisfied and unhappy.
You a boss! Current Nursing student here. Love and appreciate all your videos!
Happy to hear! Girl Im about to take that leap into travel while studying for my boards! Your video made me happy. Im doing midnight as well. Love the vlogs! They are very encouraging!
You’re a BOSS!!! Keep shining, Beautiful!! I love your videos. You are an inspiration to both young and old who are either entering or work in the profession. 🙏🏾✨💕
You’re a boss. Good luck on your assignment ☺️
Your a BOSS!!! Thanks for doing this I blog. I traveled before working as a provider and I am truly considering going back.
You're a boss girl!!! So proud for you!!
You’re a real boss!! I was looking forward to you posting this video. I hope your upcoming work week goes well and that these 8 weeks go by quickly
Just got the instruction 🤣, you're the real boss Laurie! So happy, it's all coming back and work is okay thus far. Keep doing the THANG 💅🏿...remain blessed
Thank you so much for this video. This was a pleasant experience to watch and so informative, especially with the times we are in right now. It's interesting to see how flexible nursing is! This is why I love the field so much and cannot wait to finish nursing school in May. I hope you have an eventful (in the best way possible), smooth, and fun experience full of good energy.
You a boss! I'm starting an Accelerated BSN Program in the fall and I enjoy watching your content.
👍🏾 You’re the Real Boss, Laurie! Kudos to you for going back to ICU to dip your toes 💕
Welcome back sis! let's get this bag!
You're a Boss! Love that you take the time to share your experiences and educate us. Thank you!
Nursing graduate here I can’t wait to be out there in the field just like you ! You’re a bosss 👑💪🏽
You're a boss!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on all of this at the end!! 😁
You're a real boss! Good luck on your new job 😊
Yuh done know 🇯🇲 stand-up!
Congratulations on the contract assignment 👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You’re a boss! I am a Neonatal NP and some days it can be rough! I hope your 8 weeks go by quickly!
You are a BOSS!!! Love watching your vlogs! Hope you have a great week!
Thank you! You too!
I am thoroughly enjoying these vlogs as a former ICU RN, now NP. Keep them coming please 🥰 #youahdirealboss
Boss lady! I feel ya. I’m 5 year RN and started my new ICU position this week all while finishing up my BSN degree. I work nights too so I know how you feel. 😉 I hope to take a few travel assignments after getting this experience.
I love your courage girl. You impress me so much and now i am positive about everthing
Glad you are doing well! Congrats again ....
Yasss you going to work for everyyy cent. I'm currently on an 13 week assignment as a RN and it is an adjustment from provider role excepecially physically 🙃.
You got this
You a BOSS!!!
As a patient an unwelcoming person to their peers is unwelcoming to the patients based on my experience and watching colleagues interact. Glad you got through it.
Omg Laurie, you are a real MVP for doing this. You are a BOSS!!!! I would have had no clue what to do. Omg and night shift??? I did night shift years ago for about 3months and almost broke up with my hubby lol. My job keeps sending me emails about picking up at their hospitals for a ton of money and I was like absolutely not. I have been out of the game for so long I would probably kill someone. But I understand you were in the ICU before so maybe you were fine I would probably be fine in the ER but still not going to risk it lol. I am so so proud of you. This is awesome 👏
You a boss! I’m so glad this week went well. I’m in the same situation working bedside because the money is too good not to be.
You’re a boss!!! I enjoyed this video so much I have contemplated going back to bedside but I’m just not there yet but I hope you have a good experience
You’re a boss indeed! thanks for sharing!👏🏽
Thank you for being so honest. I was really wanting to stop my NP job and take advantage of travel nursing, however I have decided to just stay. I'm a hospitalist NP at night and it's pretty cool, busy but challenging. Maybe when you're done with your travel assignment you could think about hospitalist NP??? Best of luck to you sweet lady
I'm excited to see your video! I am also a former ICU RN --> FNP --> RN and now thinking about travelling. One of the things that is a concern to me is being "dump on" given our additional training. I mean...its already happen now at my current job. We have to do group huddles at the beginning of the shift, and more than 80% of the time, I've already predicted my assignment --> the most acute/sickest patient on the ward. Sometime, I wish I only have an ADN/BSN, so I can have less acute patients, and to give the learning experiences for other nurses to "grow". Nevertheless, the reality is that there will be some learning curve, and unfortunately liability is a very real concern. I'm glad you got 2 days of orientation.
Hello, I just finished my bachelor’s in psych and I am looking to get into a nursing program as I completed all my pre-requires. I work nights at a hospital in Manhattan as a CNA and I plan to stay there after I finish the BSN program.
I am Also a Jamaican!!! and let me say, I love to see it!!! You are very inspiring and I hope to get to this stage one day! Thank you for sharing, continue striving!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thank you so much for all the help Mr Donald. You came like my night shining amour when i felt like giving up on the NCLEX and rescued me. Now i am proud to say i am an RN all because of your Qbank. May God bless and keep you safe 🙏
You look much happier and stress free ✨️
Yes! You're a real boss!! Thanks for the upload.
I am so in love with all your vlogs! Showing the good and bad of nursing and some life stuff as well, it’s a healthy balance!! YOU A BOSS 🙌🏾
Thanks for watching
You are definitely a boss. Thank you for sharing!
You’re a boss, Laurie!
My first nursing job was in the Neuro ICU - I hated it. Now I’m working in an outpatient setting and can’t complain 😂
Why did you hate it?
New Subscriber here ...just starting Prerequisites for LVN ...I like your authenticity ...you are Jamaican and your Beautiful accent is still heard . Keep going girl PROUD OF YOU
You are the boss!!!!!! ICU nurse here and welcome back to bedside !!!!
I love your blogs. I just did the opposite and came from icu after finally getting an NP job after 3.5 hrs after graduating. You’re right, it’s great money and you will work for every penny. I’ll miss the money for now but right now It’s worth the trade. Good luck!❤️
Congratulations on the new job! Best of luck to you
Congrats on the move. APPs in the ICU are an integral part of the care team. And often an independent billing provider depending on state regulations
Laurie, along with everyone in the comments section are MVPs!
Great vlog as always 👍🏾👏🏾🤗and good luck on your first week of travel nursing !

Boss Laurie!! Your the best!!
You A True Boss! Keep it Going!

@@fromcnatonp Hello, can you please give me some advice on how to begin working nights. I am such a "morning person" .
You’re a boss! Would you be willing to share a little bit more about your fitness journey? Specifically on intermittent fasting and how adjusting to working nights impacts your journey. Thanks

Glad I found your Channel. I am a LPN currently at a cross roads in my career. Jamaican too and I appreciate your content. Thinking about doing my RN and NP. I worked in a facility before doing home care and the nurses were horrible. Hateful and just plain ole petty 😞😞😞

I have been watchign you for a while under my main CZcams Channel and I have been working hard on this channel and I just wanted to say I really like watching your healthcare journey and I can't wait to see where you end up and what kinds of things you get into. that 3am tho lol It's ruff!!! God bless Sis chat soon, -Amanda
I watch these too try to help me understand the roles of the other providers I will be working with when I graduate medical school (I even worked as a CNA to understand and chillllleeeeeee whew!)
Anyway, it's cool/interesting to see the flexibility within the nursing field. I ended up googling it and turns out MDs/DOs can work as a PAs! My goal is to be a trauma surgeon working in an ICU.
You got this!!!
Wow
Just put in my applications earlier today for my first gig...it just makes sense, boss move
Me too! Lol. I’m over being overwork and underpaid, if Ima do the work I might as well get to the money.
-7 degrees, I remember those day. I was born and raised in New York. However since being an adult Ive spent my adult years in San DIego and I was freezing this morning taking my kids to the car and the temperature was 47 degrees.
Hey there ! kinda figured once you left your np job that this is where you would end up !!! get the bag sis !!!
Girl you are not alone. Will start my first assignment soon, from NP to bedside RN. A little anxiety brewing but no going back. Going to get my own share of Covid money. Once I hit the floor, it will not take me time get it back, Vent and all. Thanks.
Wish you all the best!

You're a crazy boss. :o) Many years ago, I worked nights and also rotating shifts in a different profession. Having a tooth pulled the day before starting a new job working nights is tough. Trying to stick to a healthy diet working nights is doubly tough. Doing both is crazy!
Omg yes I forgot she pulled her tooth right before her first shift. Women are unstoppable ✨✨
Yuh a the real boss! I love your videos.
Yes! We call it a safe set at the facility I work at. Less cumbersome for drawing labs! You’re a boss!
Yes! Thank you! I love using that thing 😂😂😂
