  • In this video I'm going to show you how a heat exchanger is installed in your duct work or plenum. This will allow you to get the hot water in from your boiler and allow you to heat your house much more efficiently.

    I don't mind the shark bit fittings, but in on the bottom, out on the top would have been best. You'll push all of the air out of the top that way.

    Hot in the bottom. Cold on top. Don't use shark bite, when those let go (and they do, they're not perfect as a soldered fitting by a long-shot) you'll flood the basement. No purge valve set in return, but you did it yourself. Bless your heart......

    What is the maximum air temperature you can get from this

    How was the water lines piped in to your heat system? Using a pump?

    • @projectdiy873
      @projectdiy873  Před rokem

      Yes a circulating pump on the back of the boiler outside

    What pump did you use? What are the types called that can take the hot water?

    • @projectdiy873

      Grundfdos is the brand there are lots of them. It is a 3 speed circulating pump. The longer the run or the higher it has to pump it the bigger it needs to be.

    Can you explain how you wired your blower to the thermostat so you're not using the existing gas heat?

    • @projectdiy873
      @projectdiy873  Před 7 měsíci

      Not sure if they are all wired the same but on my thermostat. I switch the green and white wires places and it makes just the fan blow and not kick the gas on when calling for heat. So works the same kicks on when it gets cold but only the blower comes on.

      So your furnace doesn’t use fuel if there isn’t hot water being supplied to the coil?

    • @mrpush2532
      @mrpush2532 Před 5 měsíci

      I think most people w this setup add a 2nd thermostat. It allows you keep you standard furnace in running order just in case your boiler goes out.
      Just set the boiler thermostat to kick on with a higher kick on than the other one.

    • @projectdiy873
      @projectdiy873  Před 5 měsíci

      @timothynovitski9133 no I am can switch the wiring back and make the gas be the source of heat. I have it wired so that only the fan kicks on when I use the wood boiler

      @@timothynovitski9133 sorry no I do not use fuel. Only if I wire the thermostat to call for the furnace to function as it normally would. I have it so it is only the blower

    is there an issue in the summer with ac condenser being before the heat exchanger?

    • @projectdiy873
      @projectdiy873  Před 4 měsíci

      No I have no issues in the summer. I only have to change the way 2 wires are hooked up on the thermostat.

    • @cameronmaxwell4165
      @cameronmaxwell4165 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @projectdiy873 what 2 wires do you switch for ac? Also how did you get the furnace to run just the heat exchanger instead of using the gas as well? We are ditching our propane completely and going with just the heat exchanger from our wood boiler.

    • @projectdiy873
      @projectdiy873  Před 4 měsíci

      @cameronmaxwell4165 I will have to check to make for sure which wires I switched. It may depend on your thermostat and how it isnwired but I will let you know how I did mine. Just give me a lol bit to check. Also switching the wires is what allows the furnace to run only the fan of the furnace and not kick on your gas or heat pump whichever you may have. The heat exchanger is basically just a radiator that gets hot from the hot water being pumped from the boiler and then the fan kicks on the furnace and blows across and gives hot air!

    • @projectdiy873
      @projectdiy873  Před 4 měsíci

      @cameronmaxwell4165 I switch the green and the white. In the winter they are switched in the summer they are in normal places.

    How good does it heat your house i am thinking about doing this to my house

    • @projectdiy873
      @projectdiy873  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It does good. I ran it to the barn as well, but before I did that. I only had to fill it up once a day or less depending on how cold it was. That also will depend on the size boiler you have as well.
