  • In Part 1 of work holding using a 3-jaw concentric (aka self-centering or scroll) chuck we take an up close look at how the chuck works, how to remove the jaws for cleaning/maintenance, reversing the jaws to hold larger pieces and more basics about the chuck while off the lathe.
    Part 2 and following will be work on the lathe and more practical tips on mounting, aligning, and accuracy with this very useful chuck.

    Your instructional videos have been useful in increasing the knowledge and abilities of my Sherline 4400. The instruction booklet that comes with Sherline provides written applications, but actually seeing them is far more useful.

    I do not feel like using the same jaws in the reverse orientation is the best idea. It would be better if there would be separate set of jaws for that, with optimized holding geometry.
