- An area of southwestern Iceland has seen its second volcanic eruption in less than a month, with lava sent spewing towards nearby Grindavik.
Two volcanic fissures opened north of the town breaching defensive walls and are putting nearby settlements at risk according to the Icelandic Met Office.

I wouldn't exactly say the protection wall "failed". To be fair, most of the lava is being redirected even though they didn't have time to bring it to the full design height. When part of the fissure opened up directly under part of the wall nothing was going to stop that. From what I can see that lava has yet to reach the town but that smaller fissure that opened up just meters north of the town is what burned up the houses. If the wall hadn't been there the main flow would've cut right through the middle of town and be flowing into the harbor now already.
be safe, Icelanders!
No wall invented can stop lava
The wall was meant to divert the lava, not stop it. In that respect it worked well.
@@tims9434
@@tims9434 The walls did hold and diverted the lava into a stream that's flowing towards the sea. So the walls did indeed hold. What happened in town was that a new fissure opened up in town. This 'news' is simply incorrect.
This is just nonsense, the walls did not fail. A new fissure opened up in town but the original walls did hold.
It's only January and already we've had floods, landslides, earthquakes and volcanic activity. 🥺
Best wishes to the people of Iceland, I hope the people and animals get new homes. ❤
We've had all that since time began
The joys of living on a volcanic island. Stay strong Icelanders!
According to recent data: the estimated thickness of the earth's crust is 300 km / radius to the center of the planet is 6,000 km. I am a molecular biochemist from the Kiev National University named after T.G. Shevchenko and the University of Ottawa, Canada (scholarship) (2007).
I just saw on the news that there's 250 sheep trapped in sheds and other animals trapped in homes. Hopefully, they're working on getting them all out.
Mmmm... BBQ mutton.
1:20 I've never realised until today how the Icelandic and some Scottish accents sound oddly similar in places as the lady spoke, especially the word "Daughter".
I was just thinking that.
I’ve been a few times and never noticed this before. I have a feeling she has some Scottish family (surely?!) Although regionally I guess it would make some sense.
She learnt English from Rab C Nesbit
I'm scottish and when i heard her accent, I came straight to the comments to see if anyone had commented about it. At some parts she sounded very Glaswegian.
🤣🤣🤣
❤ to Icelandic peeps. I so admire their resilience and hard work dealing with mother nature. Big shout out to the fire crews and land defenders doing great work stemming flow of magna.
Oh, this is terrible. But I'm afraid the long overdue Hekla and Katla will be much worse. At least they are a bit more remote than this one
I like their president. He was a historian and his wife is a farmer. He was very active in the post crash era and is popular in Iceland. He seems like a good leader.
They should take Grindavik and push it somewhere else!
Fantastical- frightening- ferocious. 🙏🌬🕯
The Volcano was active this whole time?
It'd be quite terrifying to be sleeping, wake up and open your bedroom door to discover your house has been split in half with a veritable river of lava dividing the halves. Such a possibility would haunt me if I lived in a volcanically active area.
they had a lot of warning, i knew about this a month ago
Mother Nature Earth Wind and Fire
Water
I didn't even visited Iceland
RIP Iceland
बहुत ही खतरनाक है ईश्वर लोगों की रक्षा करे
😢 hope all the people and animals are safe 🙏🏻
Nice warm weather then 👍
Man what is going on in iceland
Volcanos
climate change
Very nice and beautiful very good
Who thought a wall would stop a volcano tho
Divert it…..not block it.
The magma came down hill via the fault. The fortification diverted or held back most out the lava and saves the west of town
A bit of magma continued down the fault and comes out at the small fissure eruption. This has entered the town at the new housing area to the east of the town centre, an unfinished home burnt first

Vestmannaeyjar repeated! 🌋
Volcano defense? Is that a joke?
No. They actually did effectively hold and divert the lava flow away from Grindavík, saving most of the town. The wall didn't fail, however. This report is misleading. A second, smaller fissure opened up on the inside of the wall, which enabled lava to reach the town as there were no fortifications holding it back.
Do what they did in the movie volcano with Tommy Lee jons
God bless those crews for trying to divert the lava. I wish they could have succeeded but they did all they could. The lava was dangerous enough, the toxic fumes from it could have killed all of them. There is no shame to them in this.
i think the bible said something about wars, sickness, famine, natural dissasters before the apocalypse
When people encounter a problem beyond their control, they always be like, "Mother nature" Astaghfiru-llah.
God is sending signs for humans to return to the righteous path as the end is approaching, but not many seem to care.
It'a volcano. No one wins against a volcano. Our internal planet is always active, we are just a small part of it.
Tell that to Heimaey,
Oddly without volcanic activity our planet would have a tiny magnetic field and no life, like Mars
When we find ourselves in dire straits we do the walk of life
😊😊😊😊
Heartbreaking natural disaster; but a solid piece of journalism. I'm glad there are a few media companies left that are still reporting "news," and not just regime media's propaganda talking points!
🙏🇬🇧🙏🇬🇧🙏🇬🇧
NONE can say unto him what doest thou? .. defence wall?! Its lava from the pits of hell, they put up a fence 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
A "fence" that did effectively hold and divert lava away from the town, by the way.
@@hahyrningr not before it melted and took out a house, good little ants for trying. I stand by my statement and I STILL find the concept of a "fence" against pyroclastic flow funny.
Daniel 4:35 KJV
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
@tikkiu7345 That is not what happened. Another fissure opened up on the OTHER side of the wall, where there was no fortification to stop the lava from reaching the houses in the first place. The wall held lava from the first fissure successfully.
Also, there was no pyroclastic flow in either of those two eruptions.
@@hahyrningr EXACTLY... He still wins
Mother nature 😂
It was just a matter of time surely. Good luck people of Iceland.
Subhan ALLAH.
Allah 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How stupid are some people they build houses on active volcanoes and then wonder why they have lava in their house. Ffs.
Kind of unfair. The volcanic activity on this peninsula woke up last year after 800 years of dormancy. 800 years. Many populated, highly desirable areas of the world are built on inactive volcanos and when they are dormant for hundreds, even thousands of years, it’s not surprising or risky at all. Geological time is very different from human time and humans can’t and don’t make decisions based on geological time.
Once a volcano always a volcano.
@@tikkiu7345that’s the most idiotic comment ever. Most of the planet has had volcanic activity at some point or another.
Iceland sits on top of a major set of fault lines, like Japan and California. All these places were settled in before people understood the dangers of volcanic and tectonic activities. Today Naples sits on a volcanic field, across the bay of Naples, where Pompeii and Herculaneum got destroyed during the Roman Empire.
It's just like, though, at least they have good evacuation and monitoring in Iceland, unlike some other countries. Everyone should learn from that.
And Kevin de bruyne is back
Amazing let mother nature live in honour.

TECTONIC WEAPONS
YAWN
GET ON WITH IT
Yes, because these things don't occur naturally, do they?
I don't understand. Can the brave talk really really help? Why what is real? Living on top of a volcano? Somehow someday. I think it is better to leave however the emotions. Civilization tells us nature behavior
2024 so many natural disasters...
And it's only a few weeks old.. just wait until November 😮😂
Like?
Look at Maui Mystery Fire Disaster! Not Natural! Was DEW !
@@mariateixeira6379LOL!!!!
First Japan, then landslides all over the place, now this volcanic nightmare. 🥺
Geothermal power screwing them over, pumping all that water into the earth, the earth fights back
The most braindead comment here. Congratulations.
Hell
Scientist don’t know wtf then who knows
Let me ring my grandma in India she might know
God knows.
Disaster insurance should buy out the town
Apparently the worst for 50 years and Britain was at war with Iceland (the cod wars)
Iceland won the Cod Wars. The natural disaster they are referring to is the loss of another coastal town, when a new volcanic island was formed.
youtubers have better drone footage.... keep up sky news
ERRRR......
OBVIOUSLY FFS 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Really? Man thought they were mightier than Mother Nature and attempted to build a wall with..wait for it…Mother Nature? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🍿🍿🍿
Why not? We set fires to stop forest fires and it works.
You'd be surprised to find out that it actually worked, then. It effectively saved the town.
While we worry about daily problems, our planet is getting more and more destroyed by natural disasters. If we don't take action urgently, humanity has 5-7 years left when conditions will be still suitable for life.
Figure out what is really happening to our planet and what we can do to survive: *"Global* *Crisis.* *The* *Responsibility"*
Look at Maui Fire Mysterious Disaster . Was DEW ! Not natural!
Blah blah Greta. The climate scam has absolutely nothing to do with Volcanos
5-7 years is complete bollocks
Shut up, it's called mother nature. Alot of rich people are making money from her aswell, blaming it on us
Hahaha what utter nonsense
It’s not mother nature, it’s the Lord. Repent all❤
He does not cause suffering.
Ahahahahahabahahahhaahhahaha
Amen to that, they all should repent
@@judycook4314He does punish humans though for creating their own suffering. I respect the lava more than the people living there.
Btw it’s just released more cO2 than all of humanity ever but let’s just ignore that inconvenient fact and live like cave men.
OMG I finally got the first comment! 🔥
Does the volcano condemn Hamas?
This is only a glimpse of more coming nows the time to seek Jesus Christ and believe in him before its too late. Nobody knows when there time is up then comes judgment. Turn from your ways and turn to Jesus Christ. Begin in the word of God the Bible. John 3:16 then Romans and Hebrews and revaltions then finish the whole word of God. Pray and fast and seek Jesus Christ. Turn from sin and evil. Turn to Jesus Christ and do as he says.
Lol this is dome donald trump logic this. Lets build a wall! 🧱
WTF!? Dumbass liberal logic...do nothing and just let it happen.
Nature vs humans
