I had a Northern Dancer grandson as a teenager for Pony Club in the 80's, he always had a stumbling/falling issue especially on uneven/bad ground, carried his head twisted, crashed through jumps and stood very base wide on the front. He was a good looking horse otherwise and usually won confirmation classes oddly enough.
One thing that always stood out to me was the enormous girth he needed for my English saddle! I lived in a fairly large horsey city and it took me forever to find a girth that fit...for the longest time I used the biggest girth available with 2 girth extensions. He wasn't fat, wormed regularly, just extremely wide through the front. I do now wonder if he had rib/sternum issues but don't recall anything unusual other than overall size.
He was put down at about 9 year's old after he didn't recover from a lumbar injury from yet another fall while show jumping at a 3-day event.
