    Another great set of tips from Jeff. As an experienced (over 40-years) teacher/trainer/developer, I am going to add another resource to Jeff's list. "Training and Development for Dummies" by Elaine Biech is one of the best books on not only getting started in this career but also taking your training and development skills to another level. Personal learning and development in our field is an on-going endeavor. I keep the for Dummies book within reach at my work station.

      Good one, Norm!! Yes, agree 100%. Elaine also just put out a new edition of the ATD Training and Talent Development Handbook which is a good one to check out: www.td.org/book/atds-handbook-for-training-and-talent-development

    Thank you so much for such insightful content Jeff. Currently binge watching all of your videos! 🙌🏻 Could you let us know what other DEGREES one can consider pursuing, as a Corporate trainer?

      Thank you! So glad you are finding them helpful! To be honest, I don't think you need a particular degree. My degree was in Advertising. A couple of people I work with now who are brilliant trainers have totally different degrees. Nothing trainer specific. I believe there are various types of HR degrees that may have an emphasis on training. Those could be worth pursuing. But, generally, I haven't found that I've needed any particular degree to be a trainer.

      I want to chime in and say that a degree in something different with experience to back up your degree will give you an edge if you want to be a corporate trainer. For example, if you got a degree in Digital Forensics and then went to go and work for FLETC for a few years, then decided to train, you would be in high demand. Trainers with technical skills are needed and are very difficult to find. Just my two cents!

    Thank you for this video, this was so helpful.
    I do have a question for you, do you have to have a degree to become a corporate trainer or will companies accept the ADT certificate instead of a college degree ?

    • @yourlearningcareer
      @yourlearningcareer  Před rokem

      Glad to hear that!
      I usually see a Bachelor's Degree as an education requirement but not necessarily specific to training. My Bachelors was in Advertising and that has never been an issue. More important than a particular degree or certificate will be your experience and/or your ability to demonstrate that you can do the job.

    Do you need a degree to become a corporate trainer?

    • @yourlearningcareer
      @yourlearningcareer  Před měsícem

      Most job postings I see want some kind of degree but not necessarily a trainer specific degree. My bachelor's degree is in Advertising and that was never an issue when I applied for trainer jobs. They just wanted to see I had a degree.

    • @TitusLennon
      @TitusLennon Před měsícem

      @yourlearningcareer Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I've heard some say you don't need a degree, but I'm just not sure how realistic that is based on job postings that I see.
      So basically, in your experience, you've seen first hand that most desire a degree?
      I've never finished school. I got as far as 42 credits, but at my age, I don't see myself going after a Bachelors degree just to get into a training role...and yet, that's the job I'd prefer. So you see my issue lol

    • @yourlearningcareer
      @yourlearningcareer  Před měsícem

      @@TitusLennon What kind of work do you do now? Is there a way you could do training as part of your current role or within your current company? That can be a great way to get experience. And for many places, they want the degree OR x number years of experience so, if you already have a good bit of experience, the degree may not be as big a deal. If you are lacking both a degree and experience, it may take a little longer but I'd focus on the experience. If you can go out and show what you can do, I don't see why a lack of degree would be a deal breaker.

      @yourlearningcareer Yeah, not sure that's an ideal path. I sold real estate as a realtor, but I don't really want to be in the real estate industry. Also, real estate is not really corporate or a situation where there will be an abundance of trainer position....as opposed to real estate brokerage simply seeking to recruit agents.
