Color did exist in home movies in the 1940s and it was very expensive and for the wealthy only.

Recently, in Santa Monica,CA, two women were arrested for murdering homeless men they had suckered into signing life insurance policy contracts. Unlike these gals in 1941, the Santa Monica gals got their crimes documented on security cameras and the video footage was used in court as evidence. Old Ethel sure worked fast -- a few days out of prison and already snagged a lawyer as her next victim.

Really good job Chris Hanson. You could have maybe cropped the white on left. Do you compose the music yourself? If yes may i ask where you found the strings?

There were color home movies beginning in the 1940s. It was expensive, but they did exist.

Because they are. My grandparent's home videos from the 40's are in color. No sound though. Don't pick everything apart!

That black man was just a worker doing his job by taking the ladies for a ride in a park. He didn't know them. It was common back then for black men to do menial jobs like that, servicing white people.

I think that Belle19700 is correct. I believe these women were the inspiration for "Arsenic and old lace", starring Cary Grant I believe.

@boredwithductape colour film has actually been around for over 100 years. It just didn't become very common till about the mid 20th century.

@Chris Hanson, you have done a good job on these. They are very interesting. One thing, I think it would be better if you put together some sort of narrative instead of subtitling them. Just my two cents. Still pretty good though.

@samucirex, it is a myth that life in prison is more expensive than the death penalty. The death penalty is exponentially more expensive because of legal fees associated with appeals!

This case pisses me off, after they executed Ethel and Rita on the electric chair, their descendants were allowed to keep the insurance money. Rita's grandson is like a multi-millionaire today as a result of her crime. Laws back then were not equipped to handle this type of murderous fraud and insurance companies could not take the money back because there was no clause about death due to fraud or murder. Just not right.

Much of The Wizard Of Oz was in color, and that was filmed in the 1930s.

Ethel and Rita were lovers. Guess that’s why they never marry. In those times a lot of lesbians hid behind that spinster calling to avoid scandal and/or homophobia.

Rita was hardcore and Ethel was rockcore. I knew a few girl's like these in Seattle. The names were Terry Zindel & her friend was Emy. The girl's house smelled like the dead. I offen wondered if there wasn't dead bodies buried in her home.
