SONOS Play:5 2nd Gen vs Aiwa Exos-9 Sound-Comparison

This video is for those of you who want to know how a Sonos Play5 (2nd Generation) sounds compared to an Aiwa Exos-9 :)
Settings:
Both speakers playing at half volume!
Aiwa Exos-9 EQ-Settings (To make it more comparable):
1. Band (lowest Band): +2
2. Band: -1
3. Band: -1
4. Band: +1
5. Band (highest Band): +2
Sonos Play:5 is playing with Default Settings, cause with TruePlay it might sound too flat for this comparison.

The Sonos has deeper sounding bass at lower volumes. But I'm not sure if the Aiwa has EQ on. The soundstage on the Aiwa sounds much better. Its closer to natural sounding and has superior balance IMO. I noticed that as the volume is increased the difference in the bass becomes less noticeable and the Aiwa shines more.

I have 2x exos 9's running in stereo. The eq settings used in this demo don't seem ideal in my experience.

The Sonos Play5 has real deep bass and is louder, too. But the Play5 is not portable. For what it is the Aiwa Exos-9 is a great speaker. For indoor-use-only I would choose the Play5, but it is much more expansive than the Exos-9...

@@techkistenet I came from a Bose Soundtouch 30 and did not like that ot kind of distorts and high volume, I went to Best Buy to try Sonos and JBL Boombox and since Aiwa is not available to demo at store I took my chances and order it (they have hassle free return) and I can tell you that if you play with Aiwa eq is louder than Sonos Play 5 and also have more bass, if you play a bass heavy song and put the eq (low freq) to set 5 or 6 you can even feel some in your chest, I mean definetely not like a 10 or 12 inch sub but the bass is there and really strong for a bluetooth battery powered speaker

It's very close. I prefer the sonos. The Aiwa's sound seems little bit compressed in high frequency. The low end the Sonos is better as well, but not so much.

I own exos 9 amazing sounds. But sonos has better low. Bass is more deep.

What were the settings on the AIWA? Seems like you left them flat. AIWA sounds amazing if you actually adjust the settings properly. Turn the mids & highs up.

I wonder how Sonos would play with that flat tuning... This way it sounds really V shaped, with mid bass and mid high frequencies boosted. Aiwa seems more neutral and more natural as far as I can hear thru my HD600. Nice comparison btw!

A comparison with TruePlay is hard to realize, cause the software tunes the sound. Every little movement makes a new TruePlay-Tuning necassary while the Exos-9 would (more or less) sound the same. Thats why I decided to compare those speakers the way I did 🙂

The Sonos Play:5 is a good sounding speaker, but if you want „real“ stereo, than you need two of them and that is not really cheap. If you want to make a real 2.1 system and buy the Sonos Sub than you have to pay about 1800€ in europe. For this money you can buy a real Hifi-Stereo-System...

SONOS sounds better with base then the EXOS-9, I’m using (Bose QC 35 II) headphones.
