It’s been tough, I’ve had to sell off a lot of my personal possessions to make this work, but the support here has been slowly making a dent in this, thank you all for your support!

Robert Heinlein once said, "There aint no such thing as a free lunch." I think this applies to boats too.
For corner joints where horizontal meets vertical, etc., it can be useful to use silicone spatulas. They conform to the radius and when the epoxy filler dries, it just peels off. The spatulas can be trimmed easily to conform as needed.
Huge effort guys ,loved your work doing the delivery just poetry in motion.
Cheers and good luck
Yeah, Hailly Im 72-year-old geezer, and you're doing a great job of it. Your faring the shmoo in fine. Lol
Yeah, boat work, especially on big boats is hard, it’s bulky, there’s a million fasteners, all different, expensive and exhausting, you always feel like you’ll never be done, but you will and it’s yours. Great episode, personally, I don’t mind how you speak, you’re real people getting shit done and that’s how we roll!!!
Just look at Mysterian, when I first saw her I thought I bet she handles really well.
Glad to see my thoughts were correct and everything went smoothly for you kids.
No offense meant by calling you kids as it's meant as a compliment seeing as I have children older than you and to me calling someone kid is a term of endearment.
You kids are knocking it out of the park on Perihelion and I can't wait to see the finished, (or as finished as any boat can be), vessel, she's going to be absolutely stunning.
It speaks volumes about the entire crew's character, what a wonderful group taking on such a daunting task as this refit...
Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless...
Thanks for sharing all of your hard work.
Yay new Episode! My power went out the other week watching you both live from down below.
Get a few large rolls of Guerilla Tap and some heavy duty plasic to cover holes up from the weather. Probably need a sawzall, cats paw.
If you let the wood dry, drill small holes to help it dry the soak the deck with resin, it will be even stronger. I did my teak wood that was pretty advanced and wow, it's became real strong and protected
When you screw up screws that "won't go up" take another n screwdriver, you use it to put down over the head of the screw tighten the cartridge and up with it
The fist vid I watched: 2000 subscribers. Second vid: 7500 subscribers. Now the third vid: 11500 subscribers... You guys did what is supposed to be the hardest part of youtube (first 10k subs) in the last three videos.
My mind is blown my friend. Thanks for following along!! We’re on a wild ride!
Such an awesome video collection so far. Knee pads! Man you guys are tough.
Dunno about us, but our knees sure are! Haha thanks for joining
Great to see a new upload 😉m just north of you guys in Seattle and I'm hooked. I haven't met you guys but I got like seven voices in my head and they are all telling me you are alright. Lol
Great job. Keep it up! I believe the sacrifices you're making are really going to pay off once this boat is fully restored/outfitted and you put it to good use. Best of luck. 🍻
Great jobs guys. You’re living the dream
F*****g awesome, love you guys!
The joys of Property (boat) ownership!
I’m loving the videos about restoring your Formosa 51. I’m looking for one to restore for myself, and learning so much from you guys!
I’ll post more videos soon on the Formosa, lots of stuff to post. They’re lovely but few of them survived this long without some issues
@@SailorBarry Awesome about more videos! And, yeah, so many of them have issues, but I love the idea of rescuing a gorgeous one that might be lost to the world otherwise. I know that somewhere out in the world my Formosa is waiting for me, ready to be rescued.
liked it, din'd mind the swearing and a big thumbs up for ya'll
Awesome stuff guys! Enjoyed that a lot. :)
Glad to hear it!
With tarps... Dont use the grommets to tie to, put a tennis ball against the tarp and tie a rope around the ball between the ball and the body of the tarp....(this makes like a strangulated pimple) and use that to tie to. Way more contact area. Also tarps don't keep out water only plastic does. and super heavy duty plastic like for green houses isn't cheap but it is kinda uv stable.
Great vid, great music!
A job that would be a piece of cake on land at waist level becomes a real chore on a boat, on your knees or crammed into tight convoluted spaces. Hope you don't run into to many really bad deck spots, you have enough now. The break for yacht delivery can brighten any day. Take care, be safe and toil on, you'll soon be finished.
Being watching this from the first free boat video, and more and more sure that free boats are not for everybody.
Great job with the spring-line, by the book, actually.
Great job guys. Looking forward to your adventures
Us too!
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Love to see things coming along 👏👍🔥
Keep going guys!
Thanks!
Thank you kindly!!! 🎉🎉🎉
💪💪💪
Love the effort and choice of boat. We are looking for a CT or Formosa for a full hybrid conversion and restoration for our dream boat. Will be glued for all the pitfalls and victories!
Excellent work guys
Mad respect for all of you! If you need something to up your spirits please know this vessel will come back.. I’ll keep watching… CHEERS!!!
It would be bloody interesting to know if the quick and dirty fix lasts as long as a craftsman approach. Time will tell but it would offer valluable knowledge to future boat restorers. Thanks for the vid.
We can compare to my boat, just did the fancy careful version of this on mine.
If you find a rack of those gift card credit cards they work well as epoxy squeegee.
Just keep at it. I think you're doing a good job. Cut out the rot, replace structural pieces and decking, and seal it up asap. Judging from Simon's years of experience, of dealing with his cat, just keep on sealing it until it doesn't lead anymore. Once you're there, then start fiberglassing and make it presentable. If you can get this work done in the miserable conditions that you are experiencing, you'll make it through to the end!
I’m great at demolition. It’s putting it all back together that’s challenging. 👍👍
Loving the content and the realism! Thank you for your great videos!
Love the morale status checks
Love the +50 morale points for kissy face hahaha
I myself am a carpenter. And sailboat crazy. But give me a steel sailboat. That's so much easier. Grinding and Welding.
👍FROM FINLAND 🇫🇮
you would do better to fill plastic bottles with water and tie the to the sheets and hang them over the side it stops them from blowing around in the wind
Great video
Oh I really hope you guys can fix that area but are able to put that prism back in its place. To me they would add to the authenticity but if not we’ll that’s cool too!!!
It’ll go back in for sure! :)
Liked your video from the start, not to say the possebillities with the boat.. But if I may come with some suggerstions.. Cover the boat well, and don't stress the jobs. Make sure everything is clean and 100% dry before applying any epoxy or fiber, also wipe surface with aceton before. Otherwise you will have to ree do it in the near future.
all that in one day wOW
Too little, too late: Impact drivers tend to slip out much less (but maybe snap the screw heads more). Best wishes.
Awesome hard work you two, it will all be worth it in the end. 👍👍
I hope you wont put the teak decking back on. Check out the faux teak decking. Its better non skid and cooler on the feet and frankly it looks better and easier to maintain.
I’m tempted to eventually do a Doug fir or yellow cedar glued down deck. But for now we will just do a standard kiwi grip glass deck
@@SailorBarry right on
You guys are an awesome couple ❤. Love the vids
Impressive job leaving the dock!
Thanks! Proud of that. Just takes a little fore thought and a keen understanding of spring lines :)
Great job of making such boring and tedious work (to me at least) seem so interesting. Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks! Yea it’s exhausting and frustrating at times but highlighting the good times makes it more enjoyable. Especially being able to share it with everyone! :)
...wow, some safety guards would be good!
🤘!!!hell yeah
Whewwww glad the boat was so cheap, now the expenses!😉😎🔱
you got it easyish out there trying doing glass work in manitoba in the winter.... I hate myself right now
Brutal!!
Im a 68 year old man & no way could I do what y'all are doing. Maybe 20 years ago. Too broke down now. Waaa poor me
Suggest you guys get some strap on knee pads, you'll appreciate them before the deck is finished. A big "well done" from Australia for the courage to take it on, you will certainly earn your "free boat".
Great work. Embrace the suck. You will stand tall.
27:43 is that RED little 20 or so footer with the outboard there a STABICRAFT ???? they gunna be making them in USA TOO !!! well if it is a STABICRAFT those are some pretty slick boats!!! for alumumumumunz that is.... don't delete cuz I luv wooooodz too! LOL
Hiya! I've been watching and you guys are doing great 👍 so far anyway. Not to be weird but have you been able to get insurance? I'm struggling to find something affordable for my Morgan. I have liability but I'm trying to get full coverage, now that I have some electronics invested, but the cost are insane. Can you recommend a company?
We did third party liability through dolphin insurance and after the survey and once we complied with the survey recommendations we went to nesika insurance in Richmond bc and they found us an underwriter immediately.
Look at the bright side the more that rot you cut out the more the mold comes with it
Reckon get a new tarp sorted soon mates
Didn't these Formosas gain a reputation as "Leaky Teaky"? All that teak deck looked awesome at first, but just you wait...
"You're just saying that to get in my pants" hahahaha
How thick is the ply? Have you put one or 2 layers on.
Next episode will cover that :)
🤙🙏
Look like you been doing sailing since diapers 👏👏👏
no!!!the Gringo trip was a rip?fuuuuuuuuu! what was his next stop?
He went to Antarctica. It didn’t go well for them either haha
YEA!!!!!!!!!! MUCH HAPPY NOW !!!! way more ''updates'' than BARRY's vid 3 years ago !! LOL AHHAAHAHAHAHA glad you are with him Hailly !!!!!! ((pss, and the way you grabbed him in that harness a couple episodes ago... whoa... is there a HOOK in the main cabin now in the ceeling??? :) HAHAHAHAHA there should be!!! just saying for hanging your bannannannas or peoople in or wutever lol
The sound of those screw heads stripping makes me cry. Why is working on boats never straightforward? 😒

Edit: auto correct is not a friend.
Is this th3 last episode on Capt Rons boat? Somebody h3lp pls cos its so unclear..
We’re still working away on it, we just got side tracked with summer, other boats etc. we’re still working on the free boat every week. I’ll do a big update soon. Some of my summer episodes cover deck beams and plywood replacement. Also check out finding Simon’s channel as he just posted some new stuff about the free boat also.
don,t cuss kids yt will not pay you . doin great work . 1 piece at a time
I like the swearing - feels very thematic :)
F##king awesome looking couple+guy, man
Swearing doesn't bother me and I dont blog or have a channel for my boat but I think if you want your channel to become popular I would stop swearing as then you might get more interest from sponsorship possibly
Hi guys, greetings from Norway. Really enjoying watching you both tackle the massive project you’ve started. Just one thing that’s not so good in my opinion is the profanity from a lady. Otherwise a big thumbs up to you both.
Maybe she doesn't want to b a lady lol
I like the profanity
This is of no use. Smear epoxy over the deck. First you have to drill out all the screw holes. Then fill with thickened epoxy. So that all the soft wood is gone. Yes, it's a few extra steps. But the right way.
I joy your videos but all the cursing adds nothing to the commentary.
Miserable effing job. On new boats I use an air hammer to speed the process.
i do understand that swaring is part of how you exress yourselfs but please dont sware on camera ! I liked your video otherwise !
If you don’t like their SWEARING, nobody is making you watch their video…………….
Agree. They swear too much
Uh...they're sailors...and quite fucking awesome!
Telling a sailor not to swear is like taking water from a fish. If you don’t like it, leave.
Too much salt spoils the cooking and the story (but sometimes ya just gotta let it rip!)
great content, maybe a few less f-bombs and i would subscribe
I think they'd be more at home in a trailer park instead of a boatyard.
I don't know why people try to do these projects with such crap tools. Buy yourselves some proper gear and the job will be much easier and better. Even using a lump of wood to empty the mixing pail would drive me nuts.
I was getting into your video and then the F-bomb........... wow, how disappointing. Cursing is such ugly language:-( Not good
