  • How to harvest, condition, and store tulips. Today I'm sharing four different ways to harvest tulips based on how the tulips will be used and sold. If you would like your tulips to come back next year, cut above 2-3 leaves and let the foliage die back naturally to replenish the bulb for next year. For the longest stem length pull up the entire plant. To harvest tulips for selling pull the entire tulip when you can see what color the tulip will be. For doubles and parrots harvest when fully colored. If using the cut tulips within five days remove the bulb, place into water, and put into your cooler set at 35 F. Tulips can be stored dry for many weeks. For dry storage harvest with the bulb attach and wrap the tulips in paper like a burrito. Place dry into your cooler at 35 F. When you want to rehydrate the tulips remove the bulb and place into water for 2 hours. The tulips will turn from limp noodles into strong stems once again.

Thanks again Danielle!! Your video last year on how to cut tulips was probably the most helpful video overall for me. This updated one is even better 👌 I used both your pulling out method for the longest stem for instant sales at my market stand and the dry storage with bulb attached and they worked wonders!! Tulips I pulled out with the bulb attached two weeks ago are just fine for mothers day. I've already hydrated one of them and given away to a customer and it's amazing how they come back to life after a few hours. My mother's day orders ended up selling out. Thank you so much💞🌷💐

THANK YOU! Best tulip storage video I've seen!! I lost 1200 tulips this year - first year - new raised bed - awful weather - hot 80* - rain for 2 days - then 19* temps - all within days of them starting to bloom. It was heartbreaking! I sold about 200 but that was it - the rest died or never came up. BUT, I will try again next year thanks to your video - you give me hope!!

  • @donnabauerofbrilliancebyde1178

I have wrapped and not wrapped my tulips in dry storing with no difference. I have also dry stored with bulbs on and off. What I have noticed, the cut tulips are more limp yet bounce back quickly after I quick dip and hydrate them.

WOW, Danielle! You covered every need and situation in tulip harvesting so well! I sell at our Grocery Store, at a roadside stand, and to a florist, and all of them require being REALLY careful to make sure my tulips are at the right stage for selling. My Tulips are soon finished now (2,000 of them!), and I am waiting to harvest 40-50 Parrot Tulips for the Florist, and they are taking their good old time to color up.....I don't think they will be ready for Mother's Day like I had hoped, but I do have Ranuncs sooooo.........Thanks again!

Hi Danielle! Such beautiful tulips! I went to a gorgeous tulip farm just this last weekend (posted vid on my channel). In any case, we got to bring some home. And I thought it was so cool that method of pulling the tulip straight up and they almost make a popping noise. It's so funny about the limp noodles analogy. I found that also when I brought home the tulips I had picked, they had been in the car for about 2 hours and got really limp. However within a few hours in water, they perked right up! I also picked some doubles (Peony tulips) in that stage you described. Those I still have in a bud vase today and can probably get another 3-5 days out of them. The singles I had to throw away this morning since I picked them already opening so they didn't last as long. Now I know what to look for. Thank you!! 🌷 🌷 🌷
