I wish I could paint. I just suck at it. I almost always get runs. I just did a vertical panel in white and got one small sag. There was also a small pin head dent I didn’t see until the gloss hit it. Oh well, it’s my work truck and it’s a huge improvement over the original finish which was missing paint to bare metal. I watch the volume of paint you lay down and just don’t see how you don’t get runs every time. Your videos are awesome as alway.

All those folds in the plastic are ideal hiding places for dirt...that's why I prefer film backed paper, because you can tape over a fold a lot easier. I use it at least for a couple of feet around where I'm gonna paint.

Nice Job Gunman, So you didn't paint the entire masked area with base coat, You only sprayed where the primer was and nearby area? then the rest of the panel with clear ??? I so than I think it works out a lot better, because I always spray the entire panel with both base coat then clear, and case coat isn't cheap at all.

Hey gunman nice videos I've been painting 10 years and have actually improved my flag hours using some of your prep techniques. I've noticed you don't do any trucks, I'd like to see you prep and mask a truck painting the bed side and some of the cab like a back door blend or something. The way I've been doing it works fine but I wanna see if you have a faster way that I'm not thinking of.

I used to paint the fleet of tow trucks at the place I worked at and each one got resprayed every few years and various touch ups as required but at my new workshop we don't do any trucks unfortunately so I will find it hard to make a video for you but if you watch this vid you can apply the same technique to any blend using single stage or clear over base as you see me in this one E-Type Jaguar How to "Spot Repair"

My Question is would this paint job last as long as a factory Mercedes paint job would. People say it's never the same.
They say they use some type of electro-magnetized paint/primer. I want to get a job done for a BMW but not sure what paint to get or what clear to use to make it last a lifetime and match the quality/consistency.

I just have a few questions; 1, when painting on plastic say motorbike bodies etc and unsealed bumpers ( what is the process sealer, 1k or 2k primer before base coat?) and 2, are you able to blow 2k base and clear or 2k primers over any paint finish i.e.; acrylic, enamel ? and 3, how can you identify what paint you are dealing with when the job presents itself for work?. your tuition has been awesome to date looking forward to your response..

Steve Guest I would say it is water based as most solvent based basecoats have been discontinued. Thats not to say you can't still get solvent based but the industry as a whole is now using water base. It's all to do with voc levels. I can only speak for the uk though I'm not sure if this is the case elsewhere.

mighty moe It all depends on the hardener in your clearcoat they all have a different "potlife". So if you're using a fast hardener you will have a shorter potlife. In other words the clearcoat will start to harden quicker. You will be just fine to leave the clearcoat in your pot between coats even if using a fast hardener it won't go off in such a short time

ive started painting over one yr shop experience. At school shooting base out of an air gunsa az3 hte 1.3 and clear out of an iwate LPH 400
now at my job i shoot base out of a satajet 2000 digital 1.3 and clear out of a Iwata LS 400 1.3 entech supernovoa.
My boss wants me to buy my own guns stop using his. I want to stay with iwata because i have been using them mostly but am open to other options as i am young 19yrs old and can buy more guns if i feel so. For base I=im considering a 1.4 as i do get dry / rough spots in hard to reach/ recessed areas also i believe it is a bigger fan? I feel like the satajet has a very small pattern I always reduce the base more for the last coat or two to make sure it lays down evenly no stripes . The booth is kind of run down lights burnt out only one side of fume extraction , no seals on the doors always dust in the paint but hey not my shop what can i do. What gun/s would you reccomend for me considering what i have been using, sorry for a big comments/bad english thanks in advance

Why didn't you start spraying from the top down ?

My question exactly...he does this all the time it seems. Also...who wants to spray with a dinky 1.3 fluid needle and make 30 passes per panel to get the build you want? A 1.3 tip might be good for spraying fine silver metallics , but makes clear coating slower than it needs to be. More passes = more likelihood of problems. I wish he would try a 1.5 tip and see how he likes that. Having said that, overall he does a very good job, and produces a good finish...I just cringe watching him having to work so hard... but, maybe that's what he likes about painting. I wish him well.

@@markanthony3275 Mark your right. Gunman should do his clear coats in with a 2.0 tip and just lay it on. Facepalm!

@aaron anderson I think that with over thirty years of experience in the painting /body trade , plus owning a bodyshop of my own, that my opinion is a valid one...and you ? What do you know? Nothing....that's what you know.

@@61spindrift Never said 2.0...I said 1.5...in case you can't do the math that's a small increase of fluid needle size of .2.
