Scrap station is handy for breaking down looted drillship parts like armour that only get used once to make an upgrade, the hub uses the same threshold as the refinery and scrapping ship parts saves having to backtrack to an earlier zone because you need stuff for the turret ammo.
Loads of crafting at the same time will slow down a fair bit if you only have one module available or if you closed the storage modules to keep them safer from attack but some stuff can just take a long time.
The first segment you add to the drill is automatically a shorty for the back end after that the rest are long ones.
Make sure you're using the highest ammo for your guns, the damage output come from the ammo used and not the weapon. I think the keybind for swapping ammo is V
Once the cogs get mortars the fun begins, choice is to submerge the ship and not have drone support or to use drones and risk damage to the ship.
Drones can be loaded with looted stuff and sent back to the ship so you don't have to lose precious stuff.
I remember watching somebody from the Yogscast play this game years back and I loved it back then. I had almost totally forgotten about it beyond the occasional vague memories and me struggling to remember whatever that cool game was called. Then you started uploading and scratched a years old itch. Thanks Grill!
You know that you don't have to b3 on the drill ship for the Eruption you can remote send it down and hide underground in a mine or basement
Your drillship can travel by itself, by remotely ordering it to submerge and then calling it to a different landing site. Remote travel control uses the G key. In self-driving mode, the drillship is fairly smart about planning its route, but doesn't collect resources.

Grill put lights in you ship.. if I were you I wouldn't use my mobile gun platform as a mule to ship my stuff from my person into my ship while I'm out and about
