What never fails to stun me is the fact that their live versions surpass the high quality of their originals. The use of the orchestra and various instruments make it downright stellar.

i love how bastille tries so many different covers/versions of their songs like what the hell? is this not amazing? a choir? orchestra? real, deep sounding drums to make the effect more dramatic? dan's voice? the piano? and even a large, echo-filled space to encompass the beautiful sounds and give even more effect to the song??? i'm sorry, i could do this forever

This song helped me through very difficult times, I lost 3 people within a year, my mother, my boyfriend at the time and my father, it really gave me a lot of strength that I needed to process it with a lot of tears, of course, I always love it still and thank you for this wonderful song. They are one of those bands who are hyper controlled by stylists. Their clothes look casual, but they will have been completely instructed what to wear by their record company's stylists. It's all very deliberate.
T H you couldn’t be more wrong. They all just wear t shirts of stuff they like eg nasa, twin peaks, to kill a king, wwcomms, blp. I highly doubt anyone is “instructing” them to make these incredibly wild fashion choices. Also look at bastille secret Santa that just about sums it up.

One of the reasons I absolutely love this band is because the lead singer sounds just as good (if not better) live as he does recorded. Most singers nowadays sound amazing recorded, but they can't sing live for their lives.

I know it's selfish but I'm happy they aren't more popular, when I see what this industry has done to Ed sheeran...
Because their stuff is very much of a particular era and place and it hasn't aged too well. Added to the fact that they aren't hugely distinctive, and it's very easy to lose them in a sea of other non distinctive bands.
I've always loved the string orchestra versions more... it's amazing how Bastille can be so flexible with what they have.... and SERIOUSLY WOODY? THE TIMPANI???

I love this version so much I just keep coming back to it. In the process, I figured out they must have filmed this in at least two takes because one of the singers is wearing her hair pulled forward over her left shoulder in some shots and down her back in others.

WOW. When the song started, my jaw dropped, and when it hit the chorus I literally gasped. This is utterly gorgeous.

Lots of ways to describe his voice, but smooth definitely isn't one of them. "Smooth" is the way you describe someone with a classic singing style like Matt Monroe in the 1950s. Dan's style is fairly shouty - it's not smooth in the slightest. At the point of the song you point out he's simply singing quietly.
