Mass of the Fermenting Dregs EarthQuaker Sessions - "SHE IS INSIDE, HE IS OUTSIDE"

  • Here's an EQD Session imported from our Japanese site featuring the post-hardcore and gloriously noisy and rocking trio Mass of the Fermenting Dregs.
    On the day of the session, the members of Mass of the Fermenting Dregs braved heavy downpours that jammed traffic throughout Tokyo. But it only took a few takes to capture the live energy of the trio of Natsuko Miyamoto (vocals, bass), Naoya Ogura (guitar, backing vocals), and Isao Yoshino (drums, backing vocal).
    Guitarist Ogura's pedalboard features the Dispatch Master, Hoof Reaper, Plumes, and Spatial Delivery. Playing through his 1970's large-head Stratocaster's middle pickup, the Plumes maintains the song's crunchiness while the Hoof Reaper adds depth to the chaotic parts. For some added flavor, Ogura judiciously uses the Spatial Delivery's sample and hold mode, and the contrast between that effect and the fuzz and overdrive makes those parts really pop and grab your ears.
    Bassist and founding member Miyamoto uses the EQD Acapulco Gold to enhance the overdriven bottom end of the two songs, "She Is Inside, He Is Outside" and the kinetic instrumental "Bears." The Acapulco Gold mixed with her road-worn Fender jazz bass pushes the rhythm and retains a nice sponginess as she plays single notes and chords.
    Finally, Mass of the Fermenting Dregs' reputation as high-energy performers is humorously punctuated after the final note ends as Yoshino playfully collapses on the Zildjian A series hi-hat, drawing chuckles from his band mates.

    I couldn't tell you how excited I was when they put out their last album, considering I thought they were done. Seeing that they're still at it has me excited as ever. Not a weak song in their catalog, either.

    Wow! I've been a fan of them ever since hearing their album ワールドイズユアーズ over a decade ago now. I think this is the first time I've seen them in a small studio setting like this and they still rock as hard as ever!
    Phenomenal and vastly underrated band! Good on y'all for making this video of them.

    WOW!!! I think I heard their frets crying for mercy. LOL. My Goodness. What a heavy band. Awesome! The physicality and energy required… have they met Wata and her gig, Boris? LOL. I will pay whatever to see this band in support of Boris. Please make that happen. Come to the States. Really incredible. And, they remain in tune!!! Awesome. 🎶🎶🌻🌻🌻🌻🌈🌅🎶🎶🧡🌷☮️

    What is that old beat pedal on the bottom left of Miyamoto's board?

    • @deerpig
      @deerpig Před 3 měsíci

      To answer my own question, the pedal is a Xotic Effects X-Blender Switchable Series/Parallel Loop Pedal. Very cool pedal and now that I've looked into it, I am not surprised why the pedal on her board is obviously so well worn and used.

    • @bradcollins6954
      @bradcollins6954 Před měsícem

      To add to my question and answer (I'm talking to myself here) if the X-Blender compensates for the the loss of low end on many guitar pedals, would the EQD Blumes be a drop in replacement on her board for the X-Blender+EQD Acapulco Gold? or does the Acapulco Gold have a unique sound that is different from Blumes. I understand that Blumes is a far more versatile pedal, but in terms of the volume (how big, rather than how loud) it produces compared to the Blumes.
