Slave your TGP to HMD! DCS A-10 II HMCS continues to impress

  • Something I stumbled across accidently and then realized wasn't actually a function as intended, least not that I can tell. Instantly enables you to slew your TGP across your entire cockpit FOV and enhance your ability to lock up targets.

    when I tried to do this a week ago I couldn't figure it out even though I had the video running as I was doing it.
    now after many hours getting comfortable in the A-10 I was able to do this just by thinking it through and understanding the general systems logic. feels great. learning the A-10 has been so rewarding

    Nice trick,but I think the "intended way" is to have TGP as SOI, then use DMS right long (Slave TGP to HMCS LOS) and then set SPI with TMS fwd long. The benefit is, you can quickly glance at suspect enemy position, slave TGP to where you look and verify/prioritize threat, while still keeping the STPT/MKPT on your original target. So if this new threat is a higher prio you can make it SPI, if it turns out to be a non factor you can reset to the STPT/MKPT (original target) with TMS aft long.
    In the end it's personal preference, anyway, but it gives you options. 👍🏻

      Apaches let you Slave to HMD so this is fairly similar. It’s all about what you like to do with it.

      @@CasmoTV Yeah, just found out the TGP slews the SPI as well, as it is SOI. So you need to workaround with MK or STPT to keep your original target... But hey, it is a blast compared to old-school SA. I love the occlusion settings! Keeping track of the SPI position and donor SPIs through the floor of your aircraft is simply amazing.

      @@CasmoTV Not sure if you can answer this, but based on feedback from real Hog pilots, the HMCS should have another element, the helmet video display, which can show you the TGP along with other thing in the helmet's line of sight. So, you can theoretically slave the TGP to the helmet and see a zoomed in area without turning your head. Now, my question is if the Apache's implementation works like this or not. Can you see the TADS on the helmet as you move your head around?

    • @CasmoTV
      @CasmoTV  Před 3 lety +1

      Ben Miller yes it is displayed in your HMD if you tell it to. It’s actually better than what I think is happening in the A-10 (based solely off of a video game lol) because it fills the whole eye. So your right eye has the (bigger) picture and your left of open air. I find the tiny screen in the A-10 near useless during The day. Too hard to make anything out. I assume it’s better in the real.

      @@CasmoTV Sounds pretty cool, hopefully that will be implemented in the long awaited Apache module. As for the A-10, the upgrade is in early access still, the ARC-210 is going to come and Nineline told me that how much additional DL/TAD related stuff will make its way in the final product is up in the air. Obviously a fully implemented EPLRS is not feasible, but some really cool functionality is still missing, hopefully not for long. (Like seeing air to air symbology, or replicating the datalink markers on the TGP.)

    Thanks for putting this up, I discovered how to do this on my own already yesterday, but it's a great thing to share. I just hope it is not a glitch... :)
    1:03 You literally crack me up there :D - forgot to point out the bell button (second from the right) there though ;)
    2:10 Also make sure you switch that center rotary on the right side to Area. This should stop the TGP from slewing off when using the Slave TGP to HMCS (DMS right long) command.
    You don't have to hold your slew command BTW. Just look in the general directon where you want to scan and slew then, the thing immediately jumps into your FOV then, since the slewing box there is limited to the HMCS FOV.

      Yeah there are so many ways to mess with that thing it’s crazy. It’s hard to know what’s meant to do what and what’s accidental function. I know I still haven’t done more than scratch the surface on it’s use.

    I do think this is intended and not a glitch but only Eagle Dynamics will be able to say. If you think about it logically, when you make the HMS SOI, any input you do will display on the HMS as intended if the function is there. So when you said "by moving the SPI, it is uncaged while moving", this is actually accurate. Neat little trick and nice find :), wonder if it works like this in the real A-10C II

  • @codyi5232
    @codyi5232 Před 3 lety +1

    As intended dude. It’s called a head mounted cue for a reason. You don’t have to use the stick. Tms right long will do the same under the reticle. This is called URC, under reticle cueing. You also have TUC , which is what you’re doing, target under cursor.

    • @CasmoTV
      @CasmoTV  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah it’s kinda the same thing I guess. Only difference being that it’s not slaved to the center of your HMCS. potatoes to potatoes I guess. Lots of funky ways to use the thing. I kinda like this way as I can easily slew it vs having to move my head completely in line with the object, which can be tough under track IR zoomed in.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@CasmoTV yea both are intended to be used. Slew to an area with the URC slam the TGP over there, fine tune it with the TUC, comms switch DLNK it to the flight. thats not in there yet. all together. Fused sensors.

    cool method, but I prefer using the TGP as soi and moving it that way. Obviously it's in a smaller area but when expanding on a search area works great for me! Maybe ill try this!

    Knowing how other targeting systems work (like the laser in the SU25) I wouldn't be surprised if this was an actual intended function.
    EDIT: Wouldn't

    • @CasmoTV
      @CasmoTV  Před 3 lety

      Yeah I think it’s just a byproduct. Too wonky to be intended. In the Apache we can slave to HMD then unslave when you find something. This seems to be the closest work around.
