Yes!!! Thanks to Run Experience coaches, I have learned how important the prerun dynamic stretchings and post run static ones are. Thank you, coach Nate!!

It's great to have the functional differences between stretching and rolling explained. I'd always thought they were mostly interchangeable, but it turns out the differences are quite distinct. Great video, Nate!

Excellent-information...clear, concise and substantive.....before I saw this clip I was a bit lazy about applying both techniques....(and recognized that the stretching was different than massage rolling....I have been very active at doing both over the past 6 month and have noted a significant gain in feeling better and not "hurting". I have not seen a "pace" improvement....but the fact that I am not hurting...is really key....(i am an old man LOL).....I am down loading your app and subscribing......Again, great stuff....and to the point....

I do something simple short, and easy before every workout after warmup. It has to be something simple and not too long for me where i will skip it or get bored with it or not want to do it. I just don't understand those circuit training stuff from other videos. Because they recommend you to do those during off days when your legs are resting to keep your cardio up. But alot of them are jumps which uses your legs alot and not resting your legs. I don't even think my gym has that rolling thing though.. It just has the medicine balls and bouncing balls you do sit ups on.

first time I rolled my quad it felt like my entire leg was fire, thought that was just how rolling felt.
Then I rolled an area that was less damaged, and it felt like nothing at all.
    Thats when I knew..

Hi Nate, I heard that it’s best not to do static stretching straight after a really hard workout, because you can put more strain on already strained muscles, & that’s its best to do your main stretching an hour or so later but as long as you do some stretching within say 12 hours after your hard workout, does that sound right?

The difference between foam roller and regular stretching was good and helpful information. I sometimes experience a slight tightening around my lower back area after exercising. I had surgery (hysterectomy) a long time ago (during 1995) and my issue started after that, my question is what type of exercise would you recommend to strengthen that area? Would a foam roller help me?

Something like a plank, but facing up instead of down, would help. Raise up on your elbows and heels instead of hands and toes. Don't mean to send you away from these awesome guys, but athlean-x on CZcams here has a video about that, and it's all bodyweight, so no equipment needed!

If my upper knee hurts, I foam roll my quads and the pain is gone by the next day. Unsticking the fascia really works.

  • @Tatlone

I don't foam roll and I've always felt a bit guilty about that. I wonder if it would help with back to back run days. Do you happen to have a short foam rolling routine video?

Should you roll or stretch sore muscles? Say sore calves from speed workouts? In my experience foam-rolled sore muscles is even sorer the next morning, but maybe I should leave them alone altogether?

I use both but really wish you would have reminded folks that static stretching before a run has been proven to be detrimental- increases injury and decreases power. Save the static stuff till you are done.

  • @doraatyoutubeshorts8415

Basically stretch is better before running and foam is what you need after running to recover fast is it?
