Yeah leftist academics rave about it, and how progressive it is. But what does it matter, if no one in power respects the constitution. Laws without backing are merely scraps of paper.
Another fun fact: We absolutely LOVE having a braai (barbeque), so much so that on the 24th of September (our national Heritage Day), is also our National Braai day. We have a whole day dedicated to it. I swear that if you fly over South Africa on that day, all you'll see is smoke because the whole country is having a braai🤣

It started out as heritage day but a local guy went to Desmond tutu to make it a national braai day, as they found it hard for especially white South Africans to celebrate their heritage so soon after apartheid ended, so instead the idea became to celebrate something each and every South African loves, to braai.
Fun fact,the cape malay and coloureds are fully integrated into each other.its hard nowadays to seperate the two except by religion
Ahh not actually, Cape Malays are Cape Malays and Coloureds are separated by thier specific gene pool and ancestry. For example I am mix Creole and Dutch. My husband is mix together by Indian and black. So we both coloured but not the same. I have absolutely no Cape Malay blood nor my husband. And out religion is Christian not Muslim.
Fun fact. South Africa is also rated as the most dangerous country- outside of a war zone - in the world!!

False. Cape malays and coloureds are fully integrated. They decend from the same khoi/African-Asian slaves in the Cape Colony, they just on the Asian spectrum of the creole population. Aka coloured

I like how they make it seem like Lesotho was negotiated when it actual fact it was fought for in never ending wars for atleast 70 years between the Basotho warriors and the European armies and they failed to colonize the state and that is why it isn’t part of South Africa.

The Basotho state of Lesotho came into existence because people had to flee for there lives due to the Zulu murdering impies of Chaka that roamed over the Southern African landscape killing everyone that dared to appose them! It was not because they could not be concurred. The British eventually decided to give them their own land as they acknowledge the separate nature of the Basotho people, when it was decided to create the Union of South Africa.

@@pauldbeer If you have not researched Basotho history in depth then don't comment on it. Basotho have always lived in Lesotho. In actual fact Chaka had sent one of his regiments to attack Moshoeshoes kingdom and they were defeated. This became well known in the Nguni territories (KZN+EC). Moshoeshoe became well known throughout KZN and Eastern Cape. Basotho was not created by people fleeing KZN and EC instead what had happened is that those people heard about Moshoeshoe he became well known so many fled to Lesotho to sought protection under Moshoeshoe and they were accepted and assimilated into Basotho culture. They were given land and livestock to start a new life. Chaka was not happy about this and wanted to attack Moshoeshoes kingdom but his Sangoma warned him and advised him to not step foot there because he wouldn't succeed.
@@pauldbeer read history archives and you will see how many times Basotho defeated the Afrikaners. The Basotho had an horsemen army of no less than 5,000 horsemen that could be summoned at anytime. And they could never be defeated on that landscape. The British tried many times as well to invade by force and they failed dismally. Until they decided to negotiate a protectorate state. And when the British tried to pass a law that Lesotho should be gun free the Basotho woke up the next day and attacked the British headquarters in Maseru and their army camps and they were annihilated and the rest fled back to the Cape Colony. After that they never tried anything funny ever again.
36:01 yes Lesotho is its own country. But we have very strong relations with the country. Just like we have strong relations with Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini and Lesotho as I said. So you might say we are one people, just devided with borders.

You are right actually, it shouldn't be something that we can be proud of, it should be something that is normal. The decline of morals is when we don't give people the opportunity to choose how they want to live their lives. And by the way culture changes all the time, it was created by people and can be changed by people.
We changed the culture of expecting women to stay home and just take care of children, now more and more women are independent and chase their dreams.
Who are you to decide who someone should love? How they should live their lives?
I grew up with my cousin who was gay, but did his sexuality change who I find attractive? Nope. I still love women, so why should I be bothered with his sexuality?

Trevor Noah is bi-racial, not necessarily coloured, despite his appearence. He identifies as black african with regards to culture and upbringing. His father is white (Swiss) and mother black African of the Xhosa tribe.
But that said, again it speaks to the complexity of the "coloured" group and how non South Africans will get it wrong, or may have difficulty understanding initially how it works. But its expected, but can be explained in more detail.

Sotho ,tswana, ndebele ,xhosa and zulu speaking people are found in the following countries, south africa, botswana, lesotho, eswatini ,Namibia and bulawayo(zimbabwe).Namibia is less 6000 seTswana speaking people. Bulawayo (zimbabwe) is the only country outside south africa that speaking the following languages we speak here in south africa, (xhosa,seTswana, sesotho and ndebele, their ndebele is close to zulu.

Have to agree! Also, both Lesotho and Swaziland, think there name changed recently, contribute negatively to the total economic wellbeing of SA as a whole. These two countries would be the poorest and least developed in Africa if not the world if not for SA. They might as well not exist!!

Well, roughly speaking yes, but it did not tell the whole truth by neglecting some important info. But, yes, it is mostly correct. For instance, the coloured people is mostly the result of mixing of the Malay slaves with Europeans, with a very small European-African mix.
Also, although soccer (Football) might be the most popular sport in SA, South African soccer standard is very bad, with SA men ranked 68th in the world in 2021
Rugby on the other hand, mostly played by Afrikaners and Europeans, with very little participation by people of the other cultural/race groups, are ranked number two in the world and SA's team has 3 World titels, equaled only by New Zeeland!

There is some admixture from East Africa in pre-history.

Just to assist, the click sounds in Nguni languages are not borrowed from the San people. Swahili which has the most commonly accommodating language in African indigenous people and shows that all indigenous African languages have a certain click in them and hence share a common origin which may be from our Nomads. The San people are a part of the oldest nomads/people in the continent and stretched as far as from Tanzania to the South, and have been roaming Africa for years until now where only a few pockets exist. South African nomads need to be protected and preserved in South Africa, language is not even recognised legally in the country nor are their rights as nomads

Interesting how, although mentioned here and there, the influence of the Afrikaners/Europeans on the socio-economic development of South Africa was neglected! Also, during the music section, the Afrikaans music was not even mentioned, yet 5 of the top ten selling artists in SA are Afrikaans, with the top selling artist by a long shot being an Afrikaans mainstream artist , Steve Hofmeyer, who also has a substantial English repertoire! Me being Afrikaans, I feel that this neglect on giving due acknowledgement for the contributions made by Europeans to the wellbeing, of South Africans, in general, contributes to many of the underlaying racial frictions that are quite prevalent in SA at this time of our history. The negative influence of Apartheid was emphasized, while the positive contributions were scarcely mentioned, if at all!!

Now I'm not saying there was no unacceptable things done that surely caused pain for some people during those times, but the majority of people in South Africa benefitted much more by the positive contributions the Afrikaners, and Europeans brought to this country. If you're a South African, you simply accept it as a way of life, but if you compare South Africa and Namibia with the rest of sub-Sahara Africa, then you realise the huge difference brought about by European ingenuity and economic development! In the post Apartheid SA this is mostly neglected because it does not fit the ANC's political narrative and contributes to them clinging to power.

On both occasions I voted for multi-party government and revision of the political system. I can and will not feel guilty about anything I did not support or voted for. Also, please ensure you do not have selective memory or biased views either, as it goes both ways, with the correct view or truth mostly somewhere in between.
My view is not selective, it is based in reality only, with me expressing my view based on my experience and the cold facts of what I observed all around me. You might or will most likely not agree with me but that is also ok. We can only learn from each other by being open to the view points of others who have had a different experience..
The reality is that if Africa is viewed as a whole, and living standards are measured, the average South African was/is much better off than most people in other African countries. That was the point I was trying to convey.

Loadshedding usually lasts for 2 hours in a day and a year can go by without loadshedding...
That is also false! Electrical Load-sheding depends on the level announced for that day or week. Level 1 basically are with us always and we see level 2 and 3 regularly! Level one means that certain suburbs can be switched off at least once a week. Level two meaning that certain suburbs can be switched off for up to 2 hours a day and on level three most suburbs can have up to 4 hours of no power per day. The total time per day can be spread over two or three intervals.
SA has had level three load-shedding regularly for every year since 2012. For the last 12 years, there has not been a year without any load-shedding!

I know in the past, there was loadshedding around 2007...people were blaming exports, it was on Carte Blanch.
For the next 6 years there was no chronic scheduled outages.
In 2014 there were some. The official excuse was that it was due to some problem supplying a major power plant with coal. It lasted until that was sorted.
Then for 5 years there was nothing.
In 2019, it started again around March. I remember, because I had to arrange the purchase of UPSs and get the backup generator up and working again for the building where I worked. Since then, it has become a yearly thing. But still, there's typically months in between periods of scheduled power outs. During Covid there was no loadshedding for a year.
The maximum duration per blackout is 2hrs. The shortest duration, is 2hrs😅. Half the time, the second one is in the middle of the night, if there is a second one. (at least where I live).
Over here, "the level" determines the scheduled frequency of these 2hr blackouts. So, we'll sometimes have multiple instances of 2hr blackouts per day. But virtually never 4hrs consecutively.
Basically, where I live, there are much much longer periods without loadshedding than with loadshedding, per year. Most of the year, one forgets about loadshedding, until it returns all of a sudden (for some reason, usually in March).
