The fibre connections are usually given to societies where they have enough customers. This breaks that barrier. It doesn't matter if there are other Airtel customers or not in my building, I can just buy this and start using it. Plus if I move around a lot, I could just carry the router with me without having to setup a new connection

When i was in saudi I used to carry the miniature version of this having 5G. which I find quite useful to connet multiple devices at the same time. and the speed was not limited to 100 there, thats a catch. I was getting 600+ speed with unlimited 5G. Its actually happening in India. I think this is a cool idea to implement here. I hope 5G will be available soon everywhere.

Those are available in India as well. They go by the name of dongle or hotspot. They used to be very popular at one point but they seem to have been rendered redundant with the abundance of cheap 4G/5G data plans which allow people to simply turn their phones into a hotspot and connect multiple devices to it. This AirFiber device is however meant to give WiFi coverage to an entire household with always on multiple devices connected.

Yes, This will be a boon to me and the people who live in my area. Since I live in a town that's across a river, The Airtel or Jio doesn't want to give me internet, whereas the people across the river have internet service by both. But using this to their advantages many small ISPs are giving fiber buy getting lines from a city that is 50Kms far. Since they buy multiple connections (From Airtel and Jio) . The problem with these services is they are not reliable like Airtel or Jio.

Bro... starlink type services are best for your situation because - reliability is good, esp. more in hilly areas. Starlink should launch in India. Reg. the setup you said - that's only option now - like those peoplelease and give. This 5g thing wont help you because RJIO has to first setup 5g towers - which they don't do. So, look for alternatives like starlink. Also, another option is - to get your town administration to do the line leasing / 5g tower and ensure quality (fixing in case line broken etc). Most time these are possible, but they don't want to do because they know there are no alternatives. So do push for them , write to PMO etc.

The main problem with AirFiber is that it can never give you pings and latency close to a fiber connection. They'll fluctuate and will be a lil high compared to a wired connection (same goes for speeds) AirFiber is a wannabe Starlink and a fancy replacement of mobile hotspot at best.
It can be good for rural areas where fiber availability is limited but right now even mobile data users are getting unlimited 5G so i don't see the point of it now.
It might make a little sense when unlimited 5G mobile data is not available anymore.

I live in Maharashtra in an area where although fiber connection is already there (thanks to BharatNet initiative of the govt) but only for public institutions like Gram Panchayat and so on. Another thing is our village has an Airtel tower with only 4G capability.
For long, I tried to get the fiber connection but could not. This would be a good opportunity for telecom companies to extend the last mile connectivity because if they could equip their current network towers with 5G connectivity then they don't have to laid down the Optical Fiber cables underground and can still provide the fast internet connectivity in the rural areas at much cheaper cost. The two things they should always remember to make it successful is that the price of their Air Fiber plans should be same as that of the actual fiber plans and the data limit should also be the same as the fiber plan. Of course the speed of AirFiber will never be as good as the actual fiber cable speed but still in the same price customers in the dark patches of the fiber connection can avail good internet connectivity without having the presence of OFC network in their area.

Airtel has got 1800/2100/2300 MHz frequency bands for their 5G network. Whereas, Jio is using Reliance Communication's 850 MHz frequency band which is far more efficient than the bands that Airtel has. So, you may (may not also if they too surprise you negatively by not providing coverage in your area) find it more useful to shift to Jio once they launch it commercially in a few more days.

This is essentially a 5G mobile hotspot very much like enabling the hotspot feature in smartphone only it doesn't require your smartphone. It connects using SIM which makes it unreliable in terms of internet speed. Please make a speed test comparison between Airtel fibre and Airtel Xtreme fibre in same area.

Fiber from roof to room, can give speed upto gbps.... probably jio will launch it! Later airtel too.
These wirless are basically a better sim version!
BUT ONE THING, IN BROADBAND CONNECTIONS...local vendors, fiber cuts are pain in the ass!
Specially where Jio, airtel aren't available!
There, air fiber can make peace!❤

Can we take this AirFiber box anywhere we go, just like a wireless dongle (provided an AC power is needed)?

I thought we are finally going wireless for all our internet requirement. But guess, at least with airtel's air fibre that's not true. I hope Jio's offering would actually be a real alternative to fixed line connections.
I get 100mbps on my fibre connections, but looking at the 5g speeds, if one can get such speed with fibre like offerings (speed, data limit), I'm sure people will love it. You get a movable fibre connection, which you can take anywhere you want!

The place where I live doesn't have fiber connections, I went to both Airtel and Jio stores to ask them but both of them said that they cannot provide fiber because We don't live in a society or flat. My house is not on a Society, we live in a tier 3 small rural area on our own land where every houses are at-least 50 meters apart. This Air fiber will also not help because we don't have 5G yet. So only option for me is to use my mobile hotspot which is decent for me.

And even for what I pay, I hardly get 10-20 Mbps. I could be on a gbps plan for a lower amount with fiber connection. Unfortunately, there's no source of internet here except telecom networks.

The answer is to incorporate an antenna port and on the device and then offer high quality (pole mounted) directional antennas which can then be fixed to a building at roof level. I’ve been searching for this, but haven’t found it in india yet.

Maybe. Airtel 5G is intermittent and does not work with UPI. Had to switch to 4G multiple times to complete payments. Tested it with iPhone 13, Samsung A52s5G, Samsung S22 Ultra. Most of the city of Cochin has blind spots, especially in restaurants, malls etc. Try to make a payment and the roulette wheel starts! You have to switch to an unprotected WiFi.

    1. There is major performance difference in a physical fiber connection to your home vs a shared wireless medium like this 5G router. Purely for consumer awareness, it should NOT be allowed to be advertised as AirFiber. It is not fiber.
    2. Airtel's indoor signal penetration can be poor even in Delhi and Mumbai. Midband spectrum just does not do well through walls. Jio may have a much better experience because they have 700Mhz. So, test both at your location before buying. Of course, actual performance will vary from one place to another, not only because of 5G signal strength but also 5g band and congestion on that local tower.
    3. This 5g FWA router will perform best around 5G towers that are already connected with fiber. Towers with radio backhaul will be limited and face frequent congestion. Airtel is just replacing the cost of laying down fiber from the local node to your home, with the cost of this router. just like there is no install and router cost on fiber plans, this FWA router should be free to the user. The high entry price point is a major barrier.
Does it come with a connector for an external 5G antenna? If it does, adding an external antenna outside a window or balcony may be the easiest hack to get consistently high speeds on this 5G FWA router. And if there is fiber broadband available at your location, don't even look at this.
