That is a 6v-53. The blower is actually required for it to run and isn’t considered a supercharger. Please don’t destroy it. They are getting harder to find. Put it into a pickup or on a tractor instead.
The one in the ford is probably also a GM 8.2 diesel, as they were common in those trucks.
I enjoy your videos!
We had a 6v72 in our old '68 Allis Charmers 2 yard endloader. Allis Charmers were easily converted to use Detroiters in a lot of their equiptment.
Good idea he could make a pulling tractor with a Detroit in it
I second this, id say put it in something stupid like a car or small truck
Well original engines like this are harder to find all you really need to know its dimensions and you can cnc the block and make most of the parts on a cnc as well
Apparently kt3406e loves them 😝
That is the engine the Lincoln needs
That would be sick
Your onto something
I was going to say the same thing, it would be much easier to install.
Yesss
That would be the coolest thing ever
That would be so cool
That’s a rare truck with a 6v-53, very few came equipped that way. The truck itself is trash, but that’s an excellent engine (and fairly rare) to keep. Great find. Your new cameraman did a good job.
Way back when the racers and rat rod guys would clamor over the blower on those engines , even if the rest was junk those blowers were a hot item.
Not necessarily an excellent engine as most 4 stroke diesels of that era were better, but definitely a cool one. Destroying is the wrong move for sure. Gotta keep it.
That Detroit sounds too good to scrap or blow up. Somewhere there must be a use for it.
Like to have it in my pickup.
Exactly, I can't even imagine blowing it up and destroying it. That engine is a classic piece of diesel histor.y
I really liked the owner guy excellent memory of everything.
Thank him for giving you opportunity to his property and his history
You can tell how less stressed you are now that you got help, looking forward to all the great content to come!
What help ?
Bruce hired a camera guy to follow him and record just not In the bathroom lol
Gotta be careful, if we rev it up to much it might try to run away. - Instantly revs it even more then before then revs it to the roof after - xD
Camera man done a good job, over time he will get even better. I'm looking forward to some future videos. Keep it up guys 😀
That is a sweet sounding engine.
And yes Dad used to own a 62 International with a 345 V-8 with a 2 barrel Holley carb.
That bus might be a 392.
That thing started up like it had been parked for lunch. Engine is so rare would it be worth money? Would like to see it put in a truck or something
Parked for lunch in June 1983 lol
@George Jones thanks for letting me know 🫡
Be worth good coin here in Australia
@George Jones actually a good running 6V-53 is quite hard to find and quite sought after ,and parts are still available for them too
Drove past your shop the other week when I was visiting Florida. I almost stopped to say hey but didn’t no how you felt about people stoping to say hey and not looking to buy a tractor
Pull the engine out Bruce! It still purrs like a kitten…(Love Detroits they sound awesome) Your vids are great, more ‘Will it start’ please 👍
Nothing like the sound of a two-stroke detroit. That old girl has worked hard. She has put food on the table for a good number of drivers no doubt. Just let her rest there in the truck cemetery.
Not surprised the engine internals look so good.
Grain trucks work their asses off, for a few weeks a year. Unlike over the road trucks/haulers.
Rest of their lives they sit, in wait, for the crops to be ready for harvest
that is a feed truck i would be surprised if that was the original engine or if it hadn't been overhauled at least once
Yeah , thats a feed truck , an auger truck actually , they deliver feed to farms where the feed goes into a bin , typically to swine or poultry producers . That truck probably worked 6 days a week .
Do a “Will It Start” on a bus or a a military vehicle. That would be cool!
Rare the Military Vehicle that won't start with minor effort. They were built to take abuse and keep going.
Hamiltonvillefarm did 2 separate military trucks neither of then were a go.
Plz do a will it start on the bus
"Will it start" *and* "will it drive" on a bus would be fun
I-H made some really tough gas truck engines. 304 to 549 cu in, and all sizes in between. IIRC, everything from 392 on up had positive valve rotators and other HD parts. Keep them tuned up and they'd run all day on the governor 🙃 That V6 Detroit used to be common as dirt. But nowadays, they are gettin a bit scarce in good running condition. It needs to get turbo'd and stuck in a 1-ton 😁
Cameraman did great. That CAT will take a bit more work, and should be next on the list.
Wish you would have grabbed the old Freightliner 3 axle with the 8V92. Tuned up to 500 HP it would have been a fine shop truck.
That is crazy. That truck has been sitting almost as long as I am old.
My dad used to drive a Mack with a 12V71, buzzin' dozen. That International V8 looks like a 392. They actually are somewhat in demand with Scout guys.
A bulk feed truck. I never doubt starting a 2 stroke Detroit. They usually start on the first hit of the starter. We used to have an old 6v91 in a 78 gmc general
This truck is so cool. My family had a 1972 International Sileage truck that was similar to this one, only it had an open-air belly-dump. The only achilles heel that truck had was, if you didn't clean it out, thoroughly, it rusted out over time. It sure was cool watching those belts/pulleys/augers/bars working in unison with each other though.
I grew up out there Turkey Creek I know those trucks have been sitting there for at least 34 years It's awesome to see that they still run
6V-53 detroit naturally aspirated ,, actually quite sought after where i live, guys swap them in pickup trucks and farm machines ,,,and that one runs amazing too ,no smoke and it sounded healthy
You fool! That rusty old school bus is a 1970's International Loadstar. Those are very rare buses and are highly sought after for nostalgia factor. If anyone can get those buses running, you will never forget the way those engines purr. I road one of them way back in the first and second grades all the way back in 1985. Those buses were so much fun to ride, nothing else compares.
I'd like to see a will it start on that old international bus out there!😯
Hello ❤
Dang I thought I was watching a Dodge commercial at first! This video was on point. I love these videos. Good job
G,day Bruce you have made the same assumption as most people that the blower is a supercharger, infact it is not. The purpose of the blower is to
"scavenge" the cylinder to remove the burnt gas and replenish it with fresh air for the compression stroke. The silver engine with the turbo is supercharged with the turbo force feeding the blower. Hope this helps.
Cheers Rob.
Probably an international 392 or possibly a 345 in the school bus. They put 392's in a lot of them back in the day. A little underpowered but a great old motor international made! Used in lots of stuff from pickups to busses and farm trucks
I work on Detroits daily and have been working on them for over 25yrs now and have my own business for over 15yrs now. The main thing to do with the ones that have been sitting for a long time is to pull one of the valve covers off and put a pair of vise grips on the fuel rack very tight and then you have control of the engine and it can’t run away on you. If you ever had one run away it’s not something you want to experience again. Rule of diesel engines before anything else is to know how to kill it FIRST. SECOND is how to start it. You obey the rules you will be fine.
I am always surprised. How many years have they been, and the engine, when it starts, always runs great and always sounds great.
Thank you for the video Bruce,it was very nice to watch.Take care of you and wish you all the best.
Congratulations on your new camera guy. I hope he has many happy hours of filming...
It’s a 6v53, my 1976 international Loadstar 1850 Firetruck has a 6v53 as well. I did a old start on it a few years ago then drove it home.
That bus has an IH 345 (I think) v8. Yes, they built motors. Having a 6-53 in a loadstar was rare especially on later models like the one y’all were starting. The butterfly hood (bus) is earlier and the conventional style hood is later.
Hello ❤
I’d say that ole motor would be either a 6V53, 6V71 or 6V92 and Bruce you always wanna check each fuel rack because it might seem good on one side but the other side might have a stuck injector…
6v53
@@M_A_R_I_N_E785 yeah probably it looked like the right size
@@myallisg3388 yea
It’s a 53. You can tell because the valve cover bolts are on the outside of the cover. 71s and 92s had the valve cover bolts in the center of the cover.
@@watchjaredwork1487 yes sir you are correct, don’t know how I didn’t notice that before but yeah all 53 series engines have the valve cover bolts on the outside. Yeah also would be a 53 mainly because the valve cover bolts and the governor being at the back of the engine. And the bigger ones etc. 6v71 and the 6v92 have the governor at the front of the engine
That is a sweet sounding engine. Did you check to see how many miles was on it…great video thanks for sharing!
There's old trucks are amazing we need more of them still on the road
For the will it runs you do I never seen anyone that’s as lucky as you it’s like you know there all good everyone else I see do the will it runs needs lots of work especially knowing they actually been sitting without running for 30 yrs crazy rite
Much more interesting watching you get these old engines to run again that watching you tear up stuff!!
Great video, felt like I was there except no bugs. Your new cameraman, 👍👍👍👍.
You seem so relaxed doing these. I love them. The locomotive one was awesome.
Loving the new look Bruce 😘
For safeties sake instead of straddling the front tire , and when trying to start any vehicle , and while you're showing off you may want to consider standing to the side of the tire just in case it starts , and accidentally goes into gear !
I’m not a fan of blowing anything up for entertainment. Judging by the success of channels like whistlin diesel, I’m in the minority, and there are many people that are entertained by destruction. But you asked for our vote, so I vote don’t destroy it for entertainment.
It runs just like it was parked there yersterday. You just gotta love an ol 2 stroke.
It brought back memories. As soon as I heard it, I knew it was a DD 6V53. I drove trucks powered by that engine for 4 years. It was coupled to a 10 speed Fuller Roadranger RT610. We also had Jake brakes on them. 230 WB with 18x19.5 Super Singles on the rear tandems. Most were reframed and stretched Ford C800s. Some FWD 6x6 and Cook Brothers prime movers. The “supercharger” was called a scavenging blower. I dreamed of having that engine in a pickup. It’s really noisy.
Copy
Nuh... Old Internationals ARE IN. The music an ol' Detroit makes just sweetens the deal ever more. Get it functional. Lower it in the front, west coast bumper, ditch the apparatus on the ass, topside marine paint, 22.5" Alcoas with lo-pros, dual 6" tall stacks and fab a stepside bed. That truck would sell for very good coin.
bruce: it you rev it too much it might run away Also Bruce: revs it high multiple times lol good video Bruce
Awesome that you can just buzz around the site and work and not worry about the camera 🙌🏽
11:15 Wow that is one clean engine!!!!!!!! Beautiful USA engineering as well. What a money shot!
Always love a good will it start, but I'm damn curious to know what's in all those old houses and trailers. Doesn't look like they're lived in, could be wrong though.
Come on Bruce… we need a collaboration with you Derek. Would be epic!
Detroit calls "supercharged only" naturally aspirated. This is because they can not run without the blower scavenging the exhaust.
Blowing them up isn't very impressive. Not to mention they don't make them anymore.
That would make a nice restoration project so would that international bus
Awesome will it start, thanks for sharing!
Shaved Bruce is terrifying
Bumps over with the fuel rack stuck wide open would have been one hell of a video 😂
They used it up till the late 80s in skidders there pretty wanted up here in Canada
I have a soft spot in my heart for the Detroit 6V53 - that's what powered the M113A3 that I drove back in my days as an 11B in a mech infantry unit. Those things scream! Yeah, don't blow it up - put it in an old square body or something.
It will run, have some fun with it!
That engine and trans would be awesome in a rat rod! You be a one of a kind
Hello ❤
Ah 2 stroke Detroit I just love the exhaust sound music to my ears the V6 53 and 71 series were big in Australia in the seventies and the late SIXTIES they were pitted against V8 Cummins 555,s and 903,s they sounded sweet to .Thanks Bruce
Cheers Kym
DUDE, A SATURN! 🤣🤣🤣 just kidding, nobody gets excited about those. You should definitely do some more of those trucks there. 👍👍👍 A "will it run" every Sunday, you could call it "Will it run, Sunday" ...a play on "will it run son"
This 2stroke sounds realy great. It's a crime to blow it up. Awesome sound.
The best mechanic😂😂
Instead of destroying it, repurpose it on a frame for something. It would be cool and preserve it at the same time.
Great choice with the echo!
You should buy that Detroit and find a square body ton to put it in. That would be a bad ass truck. Would make for a great video as well I’m sure.
Hello Stephen ❤
Also not local its in the middle of iowa but I got an old REO school bus that has sat for over 30 years you can try and start it.
Can't get enough of this channel! You rock @Bruce Wilson!
That's a sweet sounding engine.
You need to try that old International Harvester school bus!😁
Nevermind about the bus🙄😂
It sounds awesome. I did not know diesel was built in 2 stroke, ok. Amazing after all those years the valve train was so clean. I was expecting sludge, gum or varnish.
Little helpless info, bring a good leaf blower help you blow all the crud off the engine and out the interior
Hey Bruce, the A&P mechanics at the Air Station want to see you crank the twin-screw tractor under the Amazon jungle and the rusty '68 truck under the brush .. then restore the tractor.
Hi ❤
@@leslieannette9740 Thanks for the heart & like. Hurrah.
What happened to snowman the OBS service truck?
We need Snowman back. And updates on Snowman too.
Sold it. By the time I put three of in it to go do a will it start and drive a few hours it just didn’t make sense
@@Bruce_Wilson Dang, sad to here he's gone but hopefully his new owner takes good care of him like you did.
I think all will it starts should be done with the snowman service truck lol!
Another engine that is worth saving and put back on the road
Keep up the great work man!! I love the videos, glad to see ya back!
Hi from uk Bruce 👋👍 great will it start mate👍 and maybe if you get the chance to grab the truck you should get a extended pad at next burnout competition and you and Mr gentry rip the trucks up👌 TRX looked sweet coming out at end 👍 I follow someone who blows up detroits on here k3406e and also wayne at old 2 stroker who saves them 👌 thanks agin to Mr Gillespie👌 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon👍👋
24:20 "welcome back to vice grip garage on this episode we're going to be driving this 1970 Buick Electra 225 900 miles back home"
Why don’t you try to do a. Will it start week New truck every day for 1 week. You were the OG so now it is time to take king position. Hell yeah brothers!!!!
Very good video looking at the other treasures takes me back in the day
Hello Eric ❤
That thing runs like it was parked yesterday!
I would save that engine. It sounds really healthy
Running like a clock love those old detriots screaming Jimmy's
Bruce
The better mic placement is Stellar in this video. It doesn't sound like you're doing a voiceover.
That truck sounds so cool tho only if I could move again
Amazing the international started an runs!
22:56, superior coach bus!!!
Good video again that is a GMC General look at the back of the cab you can tell my friend be safe
That blower is a required component of this engine, it won't run without it!!
Those are getting rare to find, not as rare as the Chevy 302 engine though.
Yeah Bruce next time try and find an 8V71 because those don’t usually like starting after siting for a year. Maybe for an upcoming project, straight pipe an 8V71 because those things sound awesome straight piped!
If he lived closer to me, we got so many old forestry equipment and trucks he could try and start
Old feed and grain truck used to put feed in silos at the farm it has augers in that chute.
Bruce put that motor in the Lincoln instead of the Cummins!
Muito legal ver esse caminhão respirar novamente
Acompanho seu conteúdo , muito bom
Sou do Brazil , parabéns 👍🏻
That thing fired up like it was parked at the end of the workweek last Friday and now its Monday and time to go back to work.
I like his shave but Bruce looked way much better with a bush on his face
Those old fleetstars are my favorite truck
You know, I think a feller would be interested in that Buick. Wouldn't be surprised if he could make a good goin-to-town rig out of it...
