The whole purpose of this channel is for me to have fun and learn anime to get closer to my community ( Since I'm a streamer not really a CZcamsr ). A small clarification about miko past, she was part of a different project similar to Kizuna Ai, said project ended failing, afterwards it was picked up by cover and she was kinda like how suisei was in a separate branch of hololive, and then later on being added as part of the main branch, the thing that stressed her and worried her was that even post joining she didnt have as much viewers as the rest, but then GTA5 lets play was the spark that made her keep going and that started a lot of the western boom about vtubers and hololive, the clip of her singing with sora and mid song starting to slowly cry is as emotional due to that moment of being side by side with one person you look up and respect as well as a highlight of all her efforts up to that point, coupled with the song they sung that represents them, it culminated in such a moment, now we all need to flood her with support once she starts streaming again once she fully recovers
IIRC Miko is from Cover to begin with and then she got transfer to Hololive.

I am the greatest 35P, and now I will give you the proper Miko timeline, because I've been there since the beginning.
Aug 2 2018 - She debuts. She is under Cover corp at this time, which is Hololive's parent company. Around this point Hololive is debuting their second generation. Instead of being a streamer, Miko uploads clip videos and variety content like Kizuna Ai, Kaguya Luna, Himehina and the other big vtubers at the time were doing. She also had to edit her own videos as well. her content is all over the place but some were really neat ideas, like going to a themed escape room with a friend irl and editing her model over herself.
December 2018 - She joins Hololive and is the "star" of an anime about her. At this point her videos and streams, since she was allowed to stream after 1000 subscribers, were still not at the level of the other girls. She has 3000 subscribers, and then jumps to 5000 after the anime started at the end of the month. The other Hololive girls who debuted after her are averaging 20,000 subs. With Fubuki at 70k and Sora at 200k.
March 2019 - Miko's subs are up to 15,000! And most of the other Hololive girls are between 40-100k. Hololive hosts a handshake event, which for normal idols involves exactly what it sounds like but for Hololive they sell time slots to talk to the girls for a few minutes 1 on 1 through a screen. At this particular event all the girls were in pairs, and Miko was paired with Ayame. Few who attended came to greet Miko. Ayame's fans were kind and happy to talk to her but the fact almost nobody showed up for her hurt her a lot. A bit later on the 25th she decided to have a real heartfelt talking stream to tell her fans how she was really feeling. Her thoughts about quitting, how poorly she was doing, how she felt like an outsider even though the Hologirls welcomed her. This stream is partially subtitled due to videos from her birthday stream this year as she watched part of it then on stream, I recommend the one from Kamome subs. It was a mix of her own resolve and the supportive comments during that stream that guided her content from then on. This stream is still referenced in her 1st anniversary Cover song and her 2nd original Sakurakaze because of its impact. I suggest watching the visuals of the 1st anni cover and paying attention to the lyrics.
May was when she started playing GTAV and the viral clip hit. Between March and May she gained about 8000 subs, during may she gained 10000 subs and the momentum carried through the summer to where she was caught up with the average of the rest of the girls by August, her anniversary. GTA boosted her popularity globally of course, she was one of the first vtubers besides Kizuna ai, Kaguya Luna and Cybergirl Siro to get an established English audience with 1/10th of their subscribers, but it also boosted her in Japan massively. The 3-25-19 stream saved her career, but GTA gave her the confidence to be herself and stream what she wanted and it was a rollercoaster on the way there as a fan. It's easy to see why she gets so emotional sometimes once you know the backstory.
Props to you not only for explaining all in detail and shortly but for being a fan for such along time, I'm not a 35P myself but I can thank her, Matsuri and FBK for being the Fandead I am today.
Also, what was that anime project? Something like HoloGra or the actual start of HoloGra?

I may be a Kenzoku, but if there is something that I have learned from watching Towa, is that the road to success for these girls is not easy, is a good thing that Miko found her strenght and kept on going; I don't think hololive would be the same without our Elite Miko.

Miko's N-word clip was my intro to vtubers too. Her GTA V playthrough is legitimately the most entertaining one I've seen, she's a comedy genius. In general, whenever she plays something it's a fun experience.
Miko didn't used to be like that, she was really trying to maintain that idol image and it didn't work for her, she struggled a lot. It was after she kinda gave up on that and started just being herself that things picked up for her and she gathered following.
Check out her clips with Pekora, those two together are hilarious. And keep fire away from her, she's a known (involuntary) arsonist...

PS-: Miko had close to 600 or 800 videos(can't remember the exact number but it's in that range) that are stream vods, videos animations songs etc
And there was a massive copyright strike a few months back(that affected all of hololive but Miko was the most affected) that deleted most of the videos
In total there's only around 100 that survived. Yeah Miko is really strong to keep going despite the fact that a lot of her videos got deleted(at one point only 5% of the videos were actually up)
They are not deleted, they are privated and currently in the process of being reviewed and restored one by one.

@@YTshashmeera It *is* a huge setback but the its important to say that the videos were privated not deleted here because many videos of some other hololivers were actually deleted and not privated, lost forever except if some fans downloaded it or clipped parts of it.
For recommendations well as far as main branch is concerned the ones that are liked a lot and haven't been shown yet are probably Coco, Fubuki and Korone.
But Hololive also has multiple branches so I'd like to recommend Risu from Hololive Indonesia, Roberu from Holostars (Male branch, most popular of them in part due to a huge increase of overseas support mostly because of unironically wholesome memes) and for Hololive China I'd say Artia because she also streams on Twitch where she streams in english.
Civia from the Chinese branch also speaks english, but I'm not so sure if there are enough clips of her

Sakura Miko for me is the one that brought me to really love Hololive and vtubers in general. Despite Cover Corps incompetency's they gave her another chance to continue being someone that brings happiness to so many around the world. I honestly can't wait for Miko to return and shine once more in this dark and brutal world.
Miko is not indie. she's from a failed project of Cover corp (mother company of Hololive) and she then transferred into Hololive. only Suisei is from Indie.

She was later merged with Hololive and gained her own little "Anime" spin off as a main character. After that she felt like she never was part of Hololive due to how she joined, but that notion has disappeared (Happily) and now is seen as a core part of Hololive Branch(Which is now Hololive Production)

21:00 this has few information wrong. Miko is created as big project from Cover Corp (hololive parent company), The Sakura Miko Project. It was something to follow Kizuna Ai success.
But it failed, and then Miko was transferred to Hololive. At this time, Hololive already have 2nd generation. Miko is not part of 1st and 2nd generation, so she is kinda lost "where is my place to belong?".
And her popularity still at rock bottom at hololive. Until finally her gta5 clip went viral.
Eventually, she form the hololive 0th generation with other girls who came from indie background (roboco, azki, suisei) and Sora (original hololive idol)

trivia, in japanese the statue of liberty is literally called the statue of the goddess of liberty, though in the clip at 16:00 it is refered in japanese as the goddess of liberty. don't know why tho
(Disclaimer this is just a guess based on personal cultural knowledge) it may have something to do with Japanese religious practices, in Shintoism (the native religion of japan) there are innumerable gods called kami, if something exists there is basically a kami of it. Kami of the mountain, kami of the forest, kami of the lake, kami of thunder, kami of poverty, kami of love, kami of justice, and of course kami of freedom. To the Japanese Shinto mind, building a giant humanoid statue dedicated to a concept such as freedom is obviously an act of veneration of the kami of freedom and thus it makes sense to refer to it as “statue of the goddess of freedom”.
We call it the Freedom Goddess in Norway too so it might just be an alternate name that floated around
I think it might be because she is based on Libertas the roman goddess of freedom.

Hey Nagzz I first heard about Holo Live a while back, saw a few clips, but never got into it. After seeing more clips, hearing positive things from Projekt Melody, Silvervale, Iron Mouse, Bunny_gif and then videos and Twitch streams from Nux Taku reacting to and showcasing highlights, I decided to do some more research. Now here I am watching all of your videos on HL and I actually get it now! Some clips were funny but most didn't register with me at first. Some too strange maybe, but now with more context and upon second viewing for many, I totally get why people love these girls.
Thank you for making these videos and to your friend for explaining in detail what this is all about. The context about these girls, their personalities, & their journeys is really interesting to learn about. I realize how they (especially the earlier ones) shaped the Vtuber landscape for all my English speaking favorites, like those mentioned above. I have lots of respect for the talented girls at HL (Not the company itself after the recent drama). That being said I do look forward to learning about more HL Vtubers soon!

I think over the years, people used the word "simp" in a exaggerated extend to kinda make fun of supporters and in a way themselves as supporters. @@Dracopyre Shion and Marine had a sleepover and got absolutely drunk pulling an all-nighter in preparation for a collaboration stream first thing in the morning to see who would make/buy breakfast. Fubuki was planning on joining in as well, and started up a countdown stream until they were gonna wake up.
They ended up oversleeping by 4 hours (now known as 1 baba, or 2 Shions) and Fubuki was streaming the whole time while promoting their merchandise and just talking with her chat.
There's also a story that goes along with it that Shion supposedly fondled Marine in her sleep/while drunk.

I am one of those people who discovered Miko and vtubers in general thanks to that n-word and gtav clips... XD It's not until I saw this Miko and Sora 3D clip that made me realized their purpose and that led me to really admire these vtubers.

To chime in on the "simp" thing: within the vtuber community it's not really seen as a derogatory because we are all, by default, simps even if we don't donate money. It's like how "weeb" was originally a derogatory word against anime fans and then the anime community basically took it and made the word their own.
Granted, "simp" is a bit different since vtuber fans will acknowledge when someone is actually being a simp and when it's just people having fun supporting content creators they like.
TLDR: Simping is the vtuber fan community equivalent to "weeb."
My suggestion for the next one is Watame, since she is the healthiest mix. Impressive singer, secret perv, and also has her own pretty tragic backstory involving a real asshole of a father.
Or we could go full meme route and have him look at the Winning Son, Roberu Yukoku.

I enjoy watching these reactions. Hololive is a positive, funny place to be that puts a smile on your face, but behind every single virtual face on stream is a real person who’s gone through the hardships of real life just like us. Once you learn the some lore and backstories of the hardworking girls, hololive becomes an entirely different experience. All the happy moments become so much more valuable once you know how much they deserve to smile.
Can’t wait for next week’s video, Okakoro still has my vote. Even if it’s not next video I know that it will be a fun experience. (There are ~56 talents total in hololive, depending on wether a-chan+graduated members count)
Since you brought up Rushia I’d say go for her, but since Pekora was shown a lot I feel she’d be the most appropriate for next one.
