  • Punishment is always harmful to the child. It includes all forms of physical and mental violence, such as hitting the child, pulling their hair, threatening them, giving them silent treatment or excluding them from family or community. Punishment is outlawed in Finland.
Punishment can make children fear their parent. Children can become shy and withdrawn. They can experience anger and anxiety and expressing their feelings can become difficult for them. Children can carry the effects of punishment into adulthood, and the use of punishment can be passed down from one generation to another.
This shortvideo shows what punishment is, what causes punishment, how it effects children and what other solutions there are to restrict the child.
If everyday life with your child feels tough, help is always available!
