The usage of the word "assassinated" is wrong. To be assassinated, it means the Emperor is dead and therefore its impossible to pretend to be injured.
If you replaced the word "assassinated" with the word "killed", then perhaps its easier to see why the usage is improper.
You can says instead "The Emperor pretended to be injured from an assassination attempt....."
