Drake's 42 Diamond Necklace, A Jeweler Reacts

Drake’s new 42 diamond necklace has quickly become an infamous subject. The differently shaped diamonds each symbolize 42 different proposals that never happened. It has over 350cts and is estimated to be over $4 million. In my humble opinion, this is a very boring piece. This extremely frivolous piece of jewelry had so much more potential! Champagne Papi is certainly not on a budget here, yet, the gallery (underside of the piece beneath the center stone) could have been much more creative than simple eagle claws. Eagle prongs are the most standard prongs…not the most innovative design. If you take a look at Pharrell’s necklace, the differences in each stone blend extremely well together and the gallery perfectly complements them. Additionally, the diamonds on Drake’s necklace are incredibly spaced out, which makes the piece look terribly designed. Although the diamonds are high quality, it’s the overall design that really brings the necklace down. Let us know your opinions on the piece and who you think the diamonds represent!!
