Also, the insects call his shooting area "The Promised Land."
Every time he leaves the supermarket, the cashiers look at each other and shrug. "That guy must really like eggplant."
I'm surprised you didn't get such a gun before! In Russia, this is the most common and cheapest type of shotguns for hunting and sports. We have 2 factories that produce AK-type shotguns. The first factory that produces real AK, they make shotguns called Saiga. The second factory that produces the РПК (Kalashnikov light machine gun) and they produce shotguns called Вепрь (Vepr) in english it is Boar. Both of these shotguns look about the same. But the Vepr is more reliable. I do not know if they are imported to the USA. If yes, then look for a Vepr. It has a bolt delay and there are no problems with loading a full magazine when the bolt is closed. I go goose hunting with this shotgun. It works great, the rate of fire is high, the reliability of AK and very fast reloading compared to other semi-automatic shotguns!
I've a couple of Saiga -12's , now I wished that I had a Vepr instead , for just that the loading...... it's reliability has been great providing you adjust the gas plug. I've got mine through Carolina Shooters Supply.
Our government has banned all firearms imported from Russia so prices on Saiga 12 and VEPR 12 have gone insane. You can buy 5+ cheapish American shotguns for the same price :(

Funfact, the Saiga-12 Shotgun was the last firearm designed directly by Kalashnikov himself. They are very robust and reliable firearms, and typically much more reliable than the AR style 12 gauge shotguns on the market.
Reloading magazines can be a bit tricky on the Saiga types with a AK style "rock and lock" magazine, due to the shells pushing up against the bolt carrier group. It actually is possible with some practice to force the magazine upwards at a angle and it will lock in just fine, this causes the shells to push down into the magazine. Alternatively many Saiga-12 models and their Chinese clones have a bolt hold open button on the top of the trigger guard. On empty you simply depress this button with your trigger finger, and charge the bolt back underneath the gun, or over top of the gun with your off hand, this locks the bolt rearward. Then a magazine is easily inserted. Then simply pull the bolt back another half a inch and release for it to fly forward chambering the first round. With practice you can easily and quickly reload the shotgun every time. It takes maybe 1 second more than a typical AK reload.

Bees are fuzzy friends, you can even pet them! However, there are the nastier wasps and hornets that look eerily similar... Which are just straight-up hellspawn.
The reverse, slow motion fruit lineup was something special.
The mag problem comes from the shear mass of the 12 gauge shell sticking up instead of the usual 7.62’s. My saiga has a bolt hold open button that makes for a lot easier loading it helps a ton! I loved this video btw really showed the force of this gun and how much fun they can be!

@@ciastekwuzet1 he’d get a raise from the sponsors
@@michaelblair6955 not gonna lie, I can’t tell the difference. But I know the don’t disturb them thing.
I've never fired an AK-47 of any variety, but my educated guess about why you couldn't seat the mag with the bolt closed was because the top round of 12 gauge protrudes from the top of the mag much more than an ordinary round of 7.62x39mm would.
It's just the nature of a design that was originally built around a medium sized rifle round will need a different manual of arms for a shotgun round.
smartness
Saiga 12 models typically have a bolt hold open near the trigger guard, it's a little button you press with your trigger finger that will lock the bolt when you charge it. manual of arms for a reload is pre rack the bolt with the left hand underneath, bolt then locks rear, you then easily insert the mag, and underhand release the bolt. With practice you can do very fast reloads, just 1 extra step compared to a AK rifle reload with the bolt hold open.
@@-Zevin- Thanks for the confirmation.
@@Gunners_Mate_Guns You were right on with your original assumption too. That's exactly what happens. The receiver dimensions are basically the same as a standard AK but with a larger bolt carrier group. The shells in the magazine push against that carrier. Actually if you download the mag by 1 you can also insert them fairly easily without pre locking the bolt as the shells will push down into the magazine itself, but it does take a bit of a push.
This is also why if anyone uses a Saiga type shotgun for home defense you shouldn't keep a mag in the gun without the bolt held open, because over weeks/months it's possible to deform the shells that are pushing against that carrier which could potentially cause feeding or ejection issues. So I personally just keep mine loaded but with the bolt locked open. Then all you would need to do is give it a 1/2 inch pull rearward and the bolt will fly forward, much like releasing a locked open pistol slide.
@@-Zevin- Your technical firsthand details of the Saiga are really appreciated.
I may not get it right every time with my educated guesses, but it's nice to know that this one was on the mark.
The extra information about the possible deformation of the shot shells is something that all Saiga owners would do well to heed.
Ditto for the idea of using the bold hold-open if intending to keep it loaded for home defense use.
The Saiga may not be the most nimble means for defense, but woe unto anyone you're ever forced to confront with it!
