This was the perfect way of showing evidence that Eren truly did love Mikasa despite his lack of reciprocal affection. I’ve watched compilations after compilations of eren and mikasa together and it always seems like it’s missing something but here the echoing of voices, the lingering of gazes and the softness of his voice at times really amplify that Eren cared for her as much or even more that mikasa did for him and that is really saying something.
There is this compilation where Eren was always pushing Mikasa away saying "I'm not your brother or your kid" (note he never said lover 😢), then after Mikasa tried to kiss him, he started accepting Mikasa's affection, less obvious one is when she fixes his uniform and others you can see here in this compilation. Point is he might fall for her earlier/at the same time as Mikasa, he is just bad at showing it. And that Isayama is goat for able to write this romance with beauty and subtlety that is so cruel yet beautiful.

Isayama showed us the most smallest hints of their love for each other. He didn’t have to make them kiss or have them stare at each other and blush hard, or anything romantic or sezual, it was all very hidden and it was pure and I get why some ppl say that they don’t love each other romantically, because they don’t show it especially Eren, they’re more like “siblings “ I get it now and I respect their opinions but for me seeing this video I can see they care about each other a lot and I see their feelings for each other is beyond than seeing each other as friends or siblings, it’s LOVE 💕 romantic love 💕

here after AOT has ended. I always know Eren loved Mikasa, his love for her was shown in a very reserved way, almost like how the old Chinese drama showed love, or like how they say "Asian parents never say "i love you"". Idk if it's also an old way of showing love in Japanese fictions, but I guess it'd take people who know asian culture to see that. It was obvious to me, in most of the scenes when Eren take time to look at Mikasa, it seemed like time had stopped, and she looked a lot more gentle and feminine, sometimes shy, and she would blush. And when he said "I'll wrap that scarf as many times as you want" that's "acts of service" as his love language, which most Asians also have.
The earliest one was Jean complimenting her hair and Eren was jealous so he went and touch her hair when he could just comment he's worried that her long hair could cause accident. Eren has always loved her and worried that she sees him as a brother or a kid to take care of. Thus it will seem like he's pushing her away. But he's always worried about her and happy for her to choose a safer life like joining MP. It's not common movie love where they say Ily and kiss but it's very real, actual love.

Instead of hated her what he wanted too say was love but he had too push her away too protect her and hopefully make his death a little less painful for her although it would never work. Tbh I'm always astonished with Mikasa will to live when the world kept breaking her down but she still lived on after eren and had a family and a place in the world and lived in peace as an older woman and shared her end days with being with love and family when she started of the series losing them all.

I praise the animators for the effort and detail they put in the scene in which Eren lies to Armin and Mikasa, specially the look on Eren's eyes when he says the sole sight of Mikasa always made him angry. Even if you haven't seen the end of the series, you can tell he's faking his disgust towards her and it's hard on him to speak those cruel words to two of the most important people in his life.
I like it that Karla remembered Eren that Mikasa's not his personal assistant, he needs to take care of her too. Which he tries to do, but he ends up more as someone who needs protection than the one who actually protects
