I mostly watch your livestreams (Like Birb Beats lofi Cafe on my Ipad now) but it looks like there are quite a few ways to support your channel. This might belong in discord but since I don’t really use it I figured that I might as well ask you on here. Is it okay to use LED UVB lighting? I have a 5 watt Honpal UVB LED 30” away from my macaws favorite resting place during the day, and a 3 watt Honpal UVB LED 12” away from my African Grays favorite daytime spot. In fact since I put the Honpal bulb there my African Gray has been spending most of the day preening, and just hanging out on top of her cage closest to the light. They aren’t as bright as my Full Spectrum LED by M and M that my Senegal has but I have read that because they have a lot of UVB that I should be careful with placement. I noticed your shop only has CFL UVB is there a reason for that? Also I can verify with my Solarmeter 6.0 that the Honpal 5 watt has the highest output of the 4 different bulbs that I tried.
Hey, Justus :) Thank You! Uuuum, this is totally a discord topic lol. There are just so many viewpoints and information that go different ways on it. We have a specific channel on discord for bird care #birdie-care. **In the future, if you want to talk more about in-depth topics, you should definitely join the discord.
I'm usually very busy with work, birds, and life stuff. it's nice to have a place where there are all sorts of people that are ready to jump in on discussions like this. In short, I have those lights in our shop because that is what I use when I use them. Diets that contain vitamin D3 and calcium are exceptionally important and taking your birds outside when the weather permits is always ideal. My Avian Vet cautions against too much UV lighting in the house as it can overstimulate birds' hormonal levels too easily. Anyhoo, I know you say you don't use discord really, but I can't recommend joining enough, especially when it comes to questions/discussions like these. discord.gg/rhHz5bw5j2
yeah as shayna mentioned, there’s sadly nothing set in stone for how much is necessary. You have to considered that what you’re buying may not always be the best. You have to research what you’re buying and as the screenshot mentions, extended exposure does create negative effects. There’s just a lot of cons to uv lights (in regards to uvb) they can either get too much or not enough and even the AAV has mentioned that the recommended exposure time is still a topic they’re researching and haven’t come up with any concrete answers. You should also meter them regularly to make sure they are still producing enough uv light. Measure at the perch under the light so you know the level that the birds are getting.

every night 😄 this is tv for birds to watch and listen to during the day while they're out and about playing in their own bird room/houses ❤ It's about having a virtual flock to hang out with and keep birds around the world company in their homes. It wouldn't be useful if we did night-time sleep footage. Our streams are pre-recorded. They have to be for the purpose of what they are for 🙂
