#warhammer #warhammer40k #40k #gamesworkshop - Zábava
One thing both book and series make abundantly clear is that the Guard is there doing the majority of the fighting, dying and killing. So many 40k stories treat the Guard as a backup force, getting pointlessly slaughtered until the Astartes save the day, but in Helsreach though the Templars and Salamanders do a huge amount of killing too, its clear the ordinary soldier is the one pitching in the lion's share of struggle. I think that's huge in 40k's Space Marine bias.
Imperial gaurds would been slaughtered in the tens of thousands even hundreds
Of thousands, space marines would have overwhelmed, overpowered the enemy with minimal loses. That's why they are seldom rarely used in attacking the enemy strong holds but mainly Garrison duties.
@@goodwinter6017 It's adorable that you believe that, because a Leman Russ can kill a squad of astartes as readily as it does a platoon of guardsmen, and the guard do love their tanks. Not to mention with an estimated million astartes spread out between a thousand recognized chapters, they would have a single brother on each world within the Imperium. While the guard, even if they only made up one percent of their world's population, assuming an average of ten billion per world, would mean there are at least a hundred million guardsmen for every astartes, and while the Lasgun alone has an insignificant chance of wounding an astartes, their heavy weapons have a solid chance of killing them, and assuming one per squad, that's ten million chances for an astartes to die on any given world. This is the scale of warhammer forty thousand that even the writers fail to remember, there are far too few astartes to go around, and one cannot wait for a better option to come along if one wants to survive a perpetual war, worlds must be held and retaken at all times or else you simply lose.
@@goodwinter6017Brother, you missed the lesson that Grimaldus learned.
@@goodwinter6017 Tell me you don't know shit about warfare without saying it outright.
@@goodwinter6017Garrison duty goes to the local planet’s pdf. The main time the actual guard is on “garrison duty” is when they’re on a world like Cadia
"Forgive me for still living while you all lay dead" love that.
Johnathan Keeble has got to be the best voice actor of all time.
Ever book he narrates is given so much life when he does it.
I wish his voice was added to the Darktide game so badly.
"In some ways, we are all grimaldus"
Grimaldus is Alpharius: CONFIRMED
Everytime i watch this ending i always get emotional.
The music, the hopelessness of the situation, the squad going down one by one, every time i know it’s going to happen since the start but still i’m never ready to actually see it.
The imperium was founded this way. In the imperium millions of such last stands happen, daily. Untold. Unsung. The foundation of the imperium is resting on bones of martyrs.
Me too, it's so good.
"Hero of Helsreach," the crowd cries. As if there is only one. Everyone has their favorite, I know many prefer "Astartes," but for me, for this guy? "Helsreach" is not only the best WH40K animation, but perhaps the best WH40K story. A Black Templar, learning about humanity.
When the plasma anihilator on Storm's Herald missed, I always chuckle a bit as the head of the megagargant looks over, as if it's saying, "Really?!"
This ending always gets me. "I will die on this world".... as the roof collapses. Just amazing.
I get so emotional every time I watch this. And Andre's quiet acknowledgement of his love Natalina Domoska death is totally heartbreaking.
"I will die on this world. I will die on Armageddon."
An early line by a younger Grimaldus thinking he will die an ignominious death while left behind by his brothers mirrored as one of the last lines acknowledging his death as leader of Squad Grimaldus and rebirth as Reclusiarch Grimaldus. He did die. He was defined by his men, his close brotherhood and they fell upon the dirt of Armageddon. He was defined by his former role and his doubt in his new, so he lost the former and defeated the latter.
The man he became would utter that great line; "Hero of Armageddon, as if there were only one." For he KNEW of all those who had stood against the dying of the light beside him and honoured them thusly. I hear the book following Helsreach was also a banger much like the first.
In a way Grimaldus did die on Armageddon. The perpetually dour, almost defeatist and partially scared Grimaldus dies, and in his place rose a Grimaldus who learned to accept his fate with grace and to appreciate the hard work the guardsmen do, someone who is worthy of the title Reclusiarch.
Interestingly take. Paints Grimaldus in evolving elevation.
I would rather paint a different picture. Grimaldus took his last strike, never to be repeated. His razor sharp synapse extrapolating puzzle piece moves miles ahead.
A driven unquestioningly exquisite force for his "side". Perfect from that last backhand he took. His promise of commitment.
“Grimaldis…brother” *gets flamed*
I cry errytime 😭
hits me really hard when andre simply said "yes"
"In a sunless realm the sun rises at last"
The quote still give me the chills, ad Big E steps into the field, bruh!
The Mega-Gargant was aptly named "Godbreaker" killed most of Storm Herald's screen.
killing at least 4 titans along with Storm Herald itself.
They didn't show it in the animation but Oberon was escorted back by a group of titans so as not to immediately lose the weapon to the first band of boarding orks. The leader of said group then willingly sacrificed his Warlord titan to distract Godbreaker so the ordinatus would have a clear target. The firepower and defenses of Godbreaker were absolutely terrifying although I think Storm Herald ended the war with considerably more titan kills (somewhat reflective of the fact ork gargants are more numerous with I feel like double digits falling to Storm Herald).
This is why i love 40k
Its all dialed to eleven, but the showcasing of the sheer humanity drives such beautiful stories.
Thank you for watching with us.
07
There is no love without sacrifice. There was much love on that field of battle. Great story!
Seeing Nerovar not being able to reach his sqaud and die not beside his brothers was truly heartbreaking and also amazing series mate cant wait for more videos in the future
Just a wonderful story! Thanks! We should all be so brave at the time of our demise but sadly many of us quake at the notion of our deaths.
One of the best 40k "fanmade" video I've watched ever. I think I watched this via reactions at least 10 times.
I can't wait to see what other projects Richard Boylan will work on.
Thanks for the breakdown of this, really appreciate it! :D
I've watched the entire movie and can say it's one of the finest ever. I'm a 71yrs old scifi nut and have watched sci-fi since the 60s, maybe late 50s. This 40K thing is like no other series with the deepest lore of all. I wonder if the actors and voice actors are not fans of 40K also. They put so much feeling into their roles I can't help buy feel they feel their characters deepest feelings as well. I usually don't enjoy commentaries, but you show you are a fan also. Keep it up! You are a real credit to the series.
i love that Andre is/was just an Eternal optimist, always looking things on the positive even when overwhelmed.
edit: the realization of what Andrew meant by "yes" when Grimaldis asked about finding her love, broke me.
I’ve always loved Andres “sass” if you will. Bursts into what amounts to the popes office saying please don’t be mad the radio sucks.
André is awesome
@@mktinsley1Have you read the second book following on? Dude just comes on the vox to the black templar strike cruiser and goes "sorry the captain isn't here right now which is a shame as he owes me money. Hey you guys are Black Templars right? I was friends with a Black Templar who sounds a lot like you".
@@consolescrub4031 That is fantastic.
That last stand always manages to make me cry, cuz of this movie I've been learning more about Grimaldus and I might just get his mini to lead my Templars.
I appreciate you’re videos and commentary that fleshes out the details and lore that otherwise I wouldn’t know or understand.
07 I live to serve
When I read the book years ago I was blown away at how much I enjoyed it. When Grimaldus speaks to the defenders of Helsreach as the Orks land I wanted to stand up and shout "For Helsreach!". When the end came I sat there afterwards taking it all in, it took me weeks before I was able to read anything else.
Watching Boylan's work as it came out all those feelings came back.
I'm not surprised that you covered this, more probably that it took so long for you to, heh.
I can watch this film over and over it’s incredible, the work put into this, and the end battle, music, vibe, action. Incredible, I noticed a little wipe of the eyes at the end there man, I do the same every time I see that last part. Wicked breakdown too man, thank you for that, your videos are awesome.
Helsreach, visible on CZcams, is by far the best film of the entire Warhammer 40000 series
I've heard Helsreach is great read, so I ended up watching the series and goddamn the story is well written. Each named character has different mentality and approach to the situation at hand and making that work is extremely hard task to any writer. How the animation started as irritating sketching and as the death approached it became more and more detailed until the threat was gone and we're back on the sketch style. Just amazing stylistic choice.
Andre was sooo great character, reminded me a little bit of Jurgen in a way. He started as one off character in the trench in middle of nowhere and ended up saving Templars, surviving Helsreach and becoming someone even the highest ranking Templars can treat as their equal.
I think I gotta order the book.
Aaron is an amazing writer. Wish we’d get more from him.
The book has some incredible parts really good
Semper Fi my brother!! 95-05 Gulf 2/4 to 5th Force Reconnaissance. Iraq and Afghanistan! Oooraaahhh Devil Dog, you just got a new subscriber!
How the heck have I never watched this before? That was so good.
well that was a twist in the end.... not that i didnt expect but still tragic. I did love the last optimistic comments before the hero of Helsreach leaves the planet. Although makes me wonder what if the mass destruction weapon would stay if it could make a difference on winning with less casualties....
I really appreciate your breakdowns.
I love the little speech he laid on the emperors champion. That was a verbal beat down. I wonder why he said to Grimaldus what he did right after about speaking out against him? It felt out of place to me, maybe I missed something? Or did he feel the need to sort of confess it?
I believe it was because he realized he was wrong about grimaldus, and it was better to end any potential conflict before their deaths
The coronel scene was my fav due to the fact that he didn't need to shoot at orks but did anyway as a last f u, its like kick the body of a villian after killing him
"Yes... I did find her...." - where men cried...
Great video, very well done. On a unrelated topic, I thought the debate last night you had on police reform, was really great. You made some based points. That Andrew guy was a real piece of work.
Ave Militarum.
Ave Helsreach.
Ave Imperator.
Damn awesome story!
Thank you for presenting it to us 🤟
What a ride. Cheers from another Vet
Look, I know why you're doing it but the Ghazkull Maga Uruk Thraka gets me every time.
God can you imagine a StarCraft like game for the final battle of helsreach where you have to just hold the ground until the oberatum Armageddon can show up and fire then just have to sit there and hold the ground until you run out of units
What a beautiful terrible end man crazy story and how it built up from hand drawn to fully animated just an amazing touch of detail
What a AWESOME episode!!!! The only thing that could’ve made it better is if there would have been more blood and it not be so dark. Other than that, it was amazing!
In the end, they all died. In the end we will all die. It is not how you have lived that matters. It is how you have died that history will remember you by.
"Rehearse your death every morning and night. Only when you constantly live as though already a corpse (jōjū shinimi) will you be able to find freedom in the martial Way, and fulfill your duties without fault throughout your life."
~ Hagakure, A book about bushido.
MAN I LOVE THAT INTRO!
This is still my favorite 40k movie, I've seen it i don't know how nany times lol. So much emotion, sacrifice, and bad assery! Grimaldus is easily one of my all time most loved characters! 😍💥🥰
Amazing comentary as always, brother Conor.
One the greatest last stands of all time, for Dorn and the Emperor
One little question the first episode of the Pariah Nexus series was released yesterday, are you also going to breakdown it soon?
What an outstanding review!
3rd time's the charm, eh? Man, i hit the first two times within 5mins of upload and was too busy to get to this one immediately.
I don't know why but staying strong in the face of death and choosing death and glory over living in shame gets me.
Warhammer 40K gives me the same feeling as the Satsuma Rebellion or Battle of Wisna ( Polish defense against Wehrmacht).
A man of honor chose death over living in shame.
It's usually comment for the comment gods, today tho, I enjoyed your breakdown of my favourite animation thanks for your hard work and time
Only in death are secrets kept.
this is still the BEST animation of the Warhammer 40k universe.
fantastic commentary!
am i the only one that felt bad for Andrej cause the love of his life that he wanted to propose to died? also my name is also Andrej
Being an actual 40k movie, I'm surprised that this is not on Warhammer+. This is the first time I am seeing the movie, been enjoying the series you have made of it. Was not expecting the Imperator Titian to go down. A dark day for the Adeptus Titanicus.
It's because it was released years ago, long before GW decided to ruin it for all the freelancers lol
This final always bring sorrow tears for Grimaldus brothers.
If not bravery or determination, than spite, rage and stubbornness must suffice
I’ve watched this so many times
Humorously defiant, without question.
I am not sure what happens to the moral of the orcs when you destroy a Titian table top? Until the end Conor.
Does that astartes survive the ork attack at the beginning?
Good animation, but God Breaker is supposed to be dwarfing Storm Harold.
F***, this does justice for chapter 23. That final battle makes me well up a bit every time.
FInally.. Thanks @counterpoints
*_Forgive me for living, while all you lie cold and still. We are judge in life for the evil we destroy (Mordred's words). It is a bleak truth that there's nothing but blood awaiting us in the spaces between the stars. But the Emperor sees all that transpires in His domain. And that we are judge equally for the illumination we bring to the blackest nights. We are judge in life for those moments we spill light into the darkest reaches of His Imperium (Grimaldus' words)._*
I love how his character grew and evolved in the span of the war.. damn good writing by ADB
I forced my family to watch this. My son loves it. My wife and daughters have never forgiven me. My son will get the inheritence.
A masterpiece. A true classic that will stand the test of time. If GW was smart, they would remake this with all their new animating talent. I doubt it, though. If so, it would really add a lot more Templar fans to the ranks.
"remake this with all their new animating talent."
erm... no
the way the animation slowly changes throughout the film is perfect.
Plus there are other stories worthy of animation too.
@horusluprecal1144. Yeah, I don't think they will really remake it. It's just a nice thought. Yes, there are much better tales to be told forsure, from 30k and 40k. Personally, I'm hoping for some high-quality old-world animations.
SUCH an amazing film, if anyone tells you they didn't at the very LEAST get teary eyed at the end fight then they're clearly Mechanicus because the only way you wouldn't get teary-eyed at the end of Helsreach is if your eyes had been cybernetically replaced and your tear ducts used to distribute excess oil for lubrication.
And if that IS the case, get out of there and don't tell anyone....
Any chance you’re going to do pariah nexus because the first episode came out this week
Of course! I give them a week before releasing the breakdown so if people are impatient they'll sign up and I'm not just stealing their views
In war there are no happy endings. Only uneasy compromises
What is the song playing at 24:45???????❤❤❤❤❤
wtf is Granny Rags (Dishonored) doin being the titan princeps?? 5:38
Tragically beautiful
We stan Andre in this house.
i dont understand the last scene. Are they dead and talking in the afterlife?
16:34 when the imperium turns on the sun
Counterpoints you had a flash back there are 26 mins 15 seconds towards the end hey... No doubt remembering a brother.. chin up n march on.. Carpe Diem
07
I salute you sir.
07
I want to see more astartes treating regular humans with respect and dignity! They exist to protect us not to treat us like mice.
Ork color theory works on all armies, it is why the ultramarines beat orks.
hold on is that granny rags inside the titan? XD
Is there a reason why they used Cadians instead of Steel Legionaries for this video?
Whay dont you make a brackedown of the new piraia nexus ?
In the darkest hour
The grimmest moment
The Omnissiah hears the rage
By his beneficence
A new sun breaks the night
Through mud and steel
Humanity sees a new dawn
It’s an awesome movie
It's a titan vs titan tecnicaly a sige battle?
I meen tecnicaly thei are booth walking forts shooting each another

Havingg no fear is not always as useful as ducking behind cover..
00:01 What game is? Of warhammer
So where are the Leman Russ’s?
Zealots and megalomaniacs by the book. Glory for the enthroned corpse.
Goodbye, brother.
I also sweated through my eyes
Comment for the comment god and when will you do the pariah nexus breakdown because the first episode is out
Next week!
Lightnings are very sad, I can barely see during action...flashes, dim color and light , is very hard to see what happens
Praise the Emperor !
16:12 Can I pet that dog
As if there was only one
May the Omnissiah guide your calculations.
