Trials Rising: Switch vs PS4/Xbox One Graphics Comparison - A Cut Too Far on Switch?

  • A push too far? Switch is cut back quite aggressively for Trials Rising, but the physics-based driving is still as compelling as ever - even at 30fps. For posterity, Tom runs over the details of just what you're missing next to the full-fat PS4 and Xbox One versions.

    Thank you very much for making this, Tom. I've been genuinely curious about this since the game came out last week. I've been addicted to this game on the Xbox One X, and was curious what the resolution was, and how the Switch version compared. The shadows seem to run at a lower frame rate depending on how much is happening on screen, even on Xbox One X. It's quite distracting sometimes.

    I've had the Switch version since release and can't say I've had any issues with the triggers, the 30fps or even noticed any of the stuttering. It plays fine and as expected. Yeah a tad blurry handheld but I don't have any trouble playing it.

      I agree, its the engine but honestly 30fps never bothers me in docked mode anyways. I've played the DOOM port and that was pretty cut back in terms of visuals too and I've played it at 50-60fps on ultra settings on my PC, still had a blast on both versions.
      The portability of the Switch is great and the exclusives are fantastic, knocking the resolution graphics and fps down a touch is a small price to pay to be able to play said games on the go.
      I managed to get through the game to ninjas fine on it, the joycons make it harder but the games still fun especially on the go.. not ideal for professional or high level gameplay though.
      I'd have to argue the engine isn't optimised, I think the new DOOM game (Doom: Eternal) will really show us what the Switch can do when the engine is optimised for the console. Since that will probably the most graphically intense game on the Switch when it releases for Switch later this year alongside its console and PC releases.

    • @Simpyphus
      @Simpyphus Před 5 lety +2

      @@matthewwoodmass4161 60 fps isnt really crucial for a game to be enjoyable. But I always opt for 60 fps when given the option.
      I have the X1X and its great. More games achieve 60 fps, more stable 30 fps in many games and vastly superior visuals overall. But a fun game isnt suddenly bad when its presentation is scaled back.
      If you play games away from home often then Switch makes sense. But I'm not gonna play Switch docked for a game like Doom. Thats an experience I will save for my X1X.
      Doom Eternal will potentially look great for Switch. But its still very limited specs. I would only opt for Switch if I really needed the portable option.

    • @matthewwoodmass4161
      @matthewwoodmass4161 Před 5 lety

      You can just tap it to a slower or faster rate, most of the game doesn't require analogue acceleration. Switch is a more casual gamers console (not a bad thing). I reached Ninjas with the Switch and got through that last uphill stretch with a gold time by tapping.
      If your into the competitive side of the game don't get the Switch version if your into playing on the go and playing wherever you want get the Switch version. Switch was designed for more casual experiences and it shows by the fact that one of its most consistently popular games is Stardew Valley, a large and relaxing game that features next to no extremely hard or competitive elements.

No doubt the PS4 and One dev cycles similar but there’s no denial when devs focus on one they pull better. Perfect example is ace combat they focused on the pro so not only does it run 10 frames better the pro and X has the same resolution another would be how Horizon on a Pro has better character details than any game that exist right now on console in my opinion

    Wow I see so many people in the comment section downright calling out Nintendo switch is weak as fuck clearly those people don't actually own a Nintendo switch console like I do and I am proud to say it does run first-party games extremely smooth and looks great it all comes down to trials Rising optimization they didn't do a great job optimizing it for the switch it actually has to do with the type of game engine they are using which is having terrible performance on every platform trust me when I tell you this it is not the switches fault it is red Lynx fault not optimizing the game to run on a default settings on every platform even PC is having terrible performance in Trials Rising it doesn't matter if you have the world's most powerful gaming computer it will still run terrible due to their game engine not properly optimized and there is nothing you can do about it only redlynx has access to the game engine and fix the problem the guy in the video literally said every platform has somewhat terrible performance even Xbox One X has somewhat screen tearing and frame rate dipping so some of you who are talking shit at Nintendo switch shut the fuck up and be quiet however I did my own test in Trials Rising open beta on my Xbox One X and PS4 Pro and Nintendo switch I noticed I don't have no frame rate issues or screen tearing on the One X and the pro like he said in the video simply because I activated performance mode on the One X and boost mode on the pro so I'm pretty sure he was testing One X and the pro without performance mode and boost mode so for those who have these consoles like I do please activate performance mode on the One X and if you have the pro please activate boost mode this will greatly improve FPS stability on every game that I have tested out so far and please enable supersampling mode if you want to have better image quality plus if you have HDR support you will have the greatest visual Quality In history 😍👍

    a switch pro really needs to be on the horizon because when the next generation of consoles come out this power gap is only going to widen and it's going to be like the 3ds vs the ps4. • @megapro125
      @megapro125 Před 5 lety

      making a "switch pro" much more powerfull is also problematic as they would still have to support the base switch. unless nintendo says fuck it we make everything 20fps@240p on the current switch there's no way we would benefit from a much faster switch revision. Maybe just fast enough to run every switch game at the same detail level but locked to 60fps@1080p. The game runs at 1280x720 MOST of the time on Switch but uses dynamic scaling - 725 horizontal is VERY VERY RARE and the absolute worst case. It does not represent normal play just like Xbox's lower number doesn't represent normal play. They are dynamic. Notice how he says "720 and dynamic scaling up and down from that"? What do you think that means?
      1600x900 is the ceiling on Xbox and the most common number, 1280x720 is the ceiling on Switch and the most common number. Both can dip. That is what he compared and he correctly stated "dynamic scaling up and down from that".
