This was the conversation with my sax teacher when he introduced me to Chris Potter’s music. Scott, “Have you ever heard of Chris Potter?” Me, “No, is he good?” Scott, “I wouldn’t say that he’s good. I would say that he scares the living sh*t out of me.”
He definitely filled that void after we lost Michael Brecker. Not that he wasn’t doing that prior to Michael’s death but now he’s getting a lot more well deserved notoriety.
I think this a bad place to make a comment like this. The title of the video is about Chris Potter going "Beast Mode". CP is absolutely capable of playing beautifully, a lot of these clips cut into where Chris is at the apex of his solo. For example, clip 3 begins with a beautiful rendition of Body & Soul as a piano duet. However, it doesn't make the video because beautiful melodies aren't "Beast Mode". You may be in the wrong place.

Its one of the maybe best solos ive ever heard
Check out the actual album recording its insane too!
Yes, i agree. This solo is just awesome. And i'm not saying that like if it was just "killing". No, this solo is litteraly a moment of " wow."
I think Potter is in "beast mode" pretty much every time he puts his horn in his mouth.
And his fight scenes

You have to add #8 when he played with Snarky Puppy!
RIP moments notice solo. His solo on moments notice is insane (not the one when he is 14)
incredible human.. is he human???! total beast. You should add the one he did with Snarky Puppy.. that was savage.
If only we got Chris potter and Michael Brecker together just once
You can't put two beasts in one stage bro, that's imposible to do. 😳🧐
@@giuartista2911 steel cage match of beasts!
There's the moment's notice version when he was 14, it's pure genius
We all know Chris Potter is a beast. But holy fuck, what a list
Dave Holland's grin is infectious.....
we should just say "those 7.000 times Chris Potter went Beast Mode"
No.2 & No.6, for me! ! ! More Divinity than Beast?!
Works by Monk for #2 and #6 is Tune Up
#5...unbelievable
I think he's not even 20 years old in this clip (definitely around 20), it's absolutely ridiculous.
“I’m not my father! I don’t do Kung fu; I’m a musician! That’s who I am! That’s what I do!”
7 of 100 thousand times...
Fuck yes been waiting on this
Bernie, would you make one about Pat Metheny ? Pretty please ?
So impressive. Is there such a thing as too much technique/vocabulary?
yes he sound like a dial up modem sometimes
the thing is when he plays fast every note is carefully chosen and makes totally sense
What is this a race? What happened to the sax playing beautiful melodies?
