- This week's car is as beautiful as it is historic. Jay is joined by 2005 Ford GT designer Camilo Pardo, and Jim Marietta. Jim is a member of the Original Venice Crew, "a small group of fabricators, race car drivers, and builders who... won the 24 hours of Le Mans... They were Carroll Shelby's original employees at his first race shop, which operated in Venice, California from 1962 to 1967." (www.motortrend.com/features/s...) Jim and Camilo show off their custom restomod Ford GT350 Roadster.

ABOUT JAY LENO'S GARAGE
A new video every Monday! Visit Jay Leno's Garage, the Emmy-winning series where Jay Leno gives car reviews, motorcycle reviews, compares cars, and shares his passion and expertise on anything that rolls, explodes, and makes noise. Classic cars, restomods, super cars like the McLaren P1, sports cars like Porsche 918 Spyder and Camaro Z28, cafe racers, vintage cars, and much, much more.
Jay - please sit down with Jim, put a camera in front of him and a lav mic pinned to his lapel and ask him every question about all those guys he knew and all those experiences he went through. Your the perfect guy to ask those questions. He has knowledge and stories that should live forever
Good idea - that’s the kind of projects high school students should be doing in their regular curriculum across the country. It would be a win/win for Jim, the community, the business and most of all the students. Entire team could be assigned to such a project.
Yes! Get it on CZcams so it lives forever. These people are dying everyday and so are their experiences and stories which is a SHAME.
Great to have Camilo on again, he is one of the few designers who can express himself to the audience about the design process.
Seriously, this guy just keeps hitting grand slams. Wow!
Hi Jay, every time you tell this story about your father's galaxy, and how you sneakely modified it, it cracks me up! Watching your shows for many years have been an absolute bliss!
..."Oh, just let the boy pick out the engine...what could it hurt?"....
I got to meet both of those dudes ... actually, all three of them. I had lunch with Camilo ... it was awesome. Awesome!!
I'm glad Jim mentioned & credited Peter Brock...so many of the people behind the emblems don't get the credit they deserve.
Absolutely beautiful, Jim and his team know how to do it right
I LOVE the 2005 GT! I’ve Watched the episode with Camillo Pardo countless times. So nice that Pardo has been welcomed back! And this Mustang is another feather in his cap.🐎
The Mustang Roadster is a work of art you can drive. Thanks Jay. 😎👍😎
Those are the perfect wheels for that car. So many old muscle cars look great with those wheels.
Damn such a cool car. Perfectly build and with so much heritage.
Always love hearing Jay’s Galaxy 500 story.
Wow a Mustang I actually like! A very sweet ride, thanks for introducing it Jay, I wish them a successful endeavor.
How sweet it is. !!😊
Amazing design! Such a great looking car. The sound of that engine is soo nice!
Thanks Jay. I love that you share your addiction with us.
I love these cars, Mustang was my first car in 77, 500 bucks. It's too bad they are being priced out of the average guys hands
I bought a ‘67 in 72 for $500. 289 automatic. I now own a ‘65 6 cylinder 3 speed. Nice cruising car.
Beautiful car !! A work of art !! Loved the story of Jay's dad !!
What a beautiful car!
Beautiful. Oh my gosh. Too bad they are only making 24. I grew up with my dad's 65 notch. With the 3spd and straight six. This is what I love Jay. Keep it coming.💙💙🤑👍🏁😎
Too bad they are priced out of the average market..
Camilo knows what's up. Subtle, didn't over-play it, looks era-correct. Nice job.
I love that story about your dad and the the Galaxie 7 liter.
Great story, I have heard it 20 times now :)
Boss 429 was my favorite Mustang 🐴
That was one sweet ride, thanks Jay !!!!!
Wow!!! This is perfect!!! If you didn't know you would think this is a perfect true restored original until you got right up to it and realizes it is a roadster. The attention to detail and authenticity is tremendous!! My only problem is that I am a mere mortal person from this era. My best friend got a red notchback with a black top for his graduation from high school. He was a bit hit with all the car guys and the girls too!! of Course!!
It looks like a 1965 and not a reproduction. But, $289,000-$329.00. Not a for the average buyer. But as a car enthusiast. I love seeing this done. Thank you Jay for sharing!
💯👍👊
The OVC site lists the starting price at $349,000. Not sure where he came up with the $289k price. Either way, not going to find one of these in the average Joe's garage.
What’s crazy is that you can buy a legit original boss 429 for $300k. Which is a much rarer car. I have no idea how they’re not going for multiple millions.
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I HAVE 4 SHELBYS 2 SUPER SNAKES AND MY GT500 AND MY 07 SHELBY GT.
YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THE FIRST SUPER SNAKES.
Poor old Jim is not long for this world, sad to say. 1965 Mustangs are my favorite, I remember em when they were first introduced. I was in love instantly and never got over it. I joined every Mustang club, SAAC, etc. for about forty years. I owned over thirty of them, but I'm old now, sold my last one six years ago. Sob.
Extra 120+ pounds, and the atrocious diet that goes with it.
Just a great episode, with Jay asking all the right questions to an engaging, smart experienced guy who was there at the beginning(and what a beginning!) Both are national treasures. I’ve been to the count fair, but Jay Leno choosing to share his unique perspective and passion for cars, developing this disarmingly simple format is, well, the greatest.
I freakin love this! I do miss Jay putting cars up on lifts, esp when they were talking about the extra girding - I really wanted to see it !
There was a kit a company in Stockton California called Mustangs Plus had called “The Ronster” in the 90’s that was similar in concept but not as well executed, it’s nice to see an updated version of that concept. Very cool.
Awesome to see the blending of generations on the development of this.
Nice car, timeless beauty, you can feel the road in one of these , todays cars lack so much in so many ways, this is primal, raw, hands on driving experience that you cant get elsewhere, man and machine, not computer and pinky , built when the world made sense, and raised your senses instead of dulling them, a great time to not only be alive, but to Feel ALIVE !
I looked at some of Camilo Pardo's artwork. It's holy s*** good. He is amazingly talented
When the word passion replaces the word work , you never call it work . Jim is the definition of passion. I guess if he was 20 in 1964 then l guess he's 80 in 2024......that's passion . You can place that same analogy to Jay .
Good episode Jay !! This is so obvious once you see it. Loved the T-Bird Roadster and this makes sense too 😊
That sounded so good I had to put in my second earbud, vvvaaarrrrooommm
This 70yr old kid would love to have one.
That's a nice-sounding car.
Beautiful recreation of something I can imagine the Ford design department would have loved to make in the 60s. Done with sympathy to the era, correct wheels and tyres and overall design.
It only took 60 years...but this is the perfect version. Congrats to the 24 check writers.
Old buddies... great to watch. Thank You Jay!
The test drive makes this special production more than worthwhile...well done!
Congratulations. Superb. Camilo and Jim really have it together. To Jay...; I've never cried watching a car video. I have now. Excellent! Thank you.
I am finally getting a chance to watch this video! Thanks Jay for sharing! 👏 Brought back good memories! 😲💖 Several high school boys in my neighborhood back in the '60's had various hot rods. There were at least four of them running by often! All of the cars were gorgeous! 🥰 I loved watching them race up + down our curvy country roads in NY! 😂🤭 And the boy two doors down, had a different Mustang every single year! For like six years in a row! His high school and college years. I must confess, as much as l loved all of his Mustangs over the years, the guy that lived six doors down had a '57 Chevy that l loved the most! 😂 Candy Apple Red interior, dashboard. I was never allowed to ride in any of these tricked out cars. I was much younger than the boys. But l had a great view from our house at the four corners on the bottom of that hill back to their homes! Thanks Jay! 🤗 ✌️❤️🦋🙏
You've made me fall in love with the 65 Mustang again... Fantastic rendition...
Amazing, they are able to pump out that many horsepower out of a 289!!
I have a Revology 66 350 Shelby replica. Built from the ground up. Mine is car 110 in their registry. Expensive cars, but amazing craftsmanship.
Been manifesting this episode since I checked out the OVC mustang's site after your previous episode with them and saw the roadster there, wished that they bring it at your garage and we can get to know about it more
Thanks Jay ❤
It has been a very long time since I've heard a 289 (331) sound like that... Outstanding...
What a great video! Very interesting and very enjoyable.
The Mustang is my favorite car. I had a 2008. Really love the 65 model.
Another great video Jay and crew. Can't wait for more 👍
Well done! Super looks, great sense of keeping the best of the past in focus.
That's one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen!
Drop dead gorgeous car. It must be a blast to drive.
That is how to up grade a classic well done.
what an absolute treat this video is!
More fun with Jay...joy riding...nice!
That was very nice to see tis Mustang looking like an noter Ford, is my favorit Ford Tbird from 1965-66, and i love this one. good work to the guys.👍👍
That would bring me into the Ford family. Thanks Jay!
Wonderful. I had a '66 convertible. 4 speed, 4bbl and Windsor heads. Sounded about the same with glass packs. I built a front lower scoop out of plywood.
Just to be clear, I sold it for $500.
THANKS JAY,JIM,CAMILO…FOR SHARING THIS PIECE OF HISTORY,REBORN EVERYONE DID A FANTASTIC JOB 🔥🔥🔥😊
I LOVE ❤ ROADSTER VERSION AND Reminds me of my 66 Fastback…with the Rallye PAC 😁…. And my son NOW drives a 2012 Fastback GT 😎💚💚💚
Coolest car and show Jay’s had on in a long time including the guys.
Great to hear from you. Get well soon. You can do this. Take care.
A simply gorgeous car. The most interesting body line is also present on the Ford GT and that is the side body line which slopes upward from the rear quarter panel. No other car executes this styling feature as well as the Mustang
What a lovely Stang! Love the color!
Ah ha can’t wait to see what Mr. Leno does to his Mustang. IMO it will be a trophy winner for sure. 😊 Snazzy Mustang 😊😊
Great Show, Great Guys, Great Car! 👌
My first car was a 1965 mustang that I paid $300 for and it ran perfect until I wrecked it. But i was only 16 years old. The next day my father came home with a whole front end that we replaced. Took it to earl shibe and had it repainted for $99. "Now those were the good ole days"
Absolutely great video of a wonderful car built by real enthusiasts, Jay, thank you so much for this! Love the sound of that 289/331! Thank God they didn't make it into an EV!
I built a 1966 GT 350 convertible clone when I was. 24 years old, had 4 wheel disk Lincoln Versailles 9 in posii disc brake rear end
And 76 Granada front discs and and a lot of cool stuff Tony Branda had to offer in the day (1994) ish
Paint scheme, bright, red with gold racing, stripes and black interior
With a black padded roll bar .
Had a lot of fun with that car, probably only cost me $20,000 to build in 94😂
I saw one of the original 66 GT 350 convertibles in a museum in Vegas, and I think there was only 12 of them that were actually made at the time
Thank You Jay
Great to hear the Galaxy story again Jay!! Very very cool!!
We were should to should with Camilo and did not know it. We are fans of Camilo and would have like to meet him. Saw this car at the 2023 SAAC National Convention. Well done! Heard it start and drive away!
Great job guys. Thank you for keeping the mustang history alive. Am I the only one that thinks this car sounds like the mustang GT in bullitt
Gorgeous stuff
Very cool and interesting all about American car history and it is a beautiful special car although the people who built. It was very interesting, thank you
See the classic video "the Brain of Camilo Pardo". Had to include it in my GT40+ folder lol. Love his building downtown Detroit.
This thing sounds amazing
Great job on the roadster panel! Both my parents worked at Ford Sharonville and I grew up in T-Birds, Mustangs and Continentals. I always thought the Mustang should have the same style roadster panel available. I also like the painted bumpers on this one, the chrome ones were always a bit of a sore thumb to me on the Shelbys, with the stripes being interrupted by them.
It looks Amazing !!!
Nice, I am glad not one word it has an electric engine option.
It looks great.
This car is absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!
You can really see why the Shelby Mustangs became such classics right away because I couldn't imagine a more fun car to drive than this.
Jay is awesome.
Just the best.
I had a '65 200 3 speed straight 6 in college (82-85). Only regret was I wish it had a 289!
Nicely done.
Hey Jay, it's nice to see you again. Love these cars. I don't know why they would only make 24. When you have a good recipe for bread you don't just make a couple dozen loaves! Till then.
Amazing car. My god how beautiful.
I hope Jay makes it past 100 yr old. I hope his collection is properly cared for after he's gone.
What a beauty !
This mf a time capsule. Have a mustang myself, plan on building a 64-67 myself I got my eye on a couple. Also Camilo appearances are rare, just did some CarWow with some sick Ford GTs pretty sick. It’s so cool to see him doing more collaborations as he’s a huge part of ford development. As well he takes time to formulate real answers to questions that’s matter or peak interest or further understanding. Definitely a real car man at heart, the purest and curious form. Good episode L Jay
Enjoyed the video ✔️
oh my! I like it!
Beautiful car!
At the beginning, I was like.... eeeegh, another Mustang nostalgia trip. The discussion of the details and design became more and more interesting. Don't know if they will sell, but it is not a clown car. Really cool adaptation of the Mustang legend.
"Modified Prototype" is its own class.
Now that is a car, no sterile electric smectric !
LOVE YOU JAY!
Looks great
"We put some additional girding underneath to reduce the flex" You and me both, Jim...
The video thumbnail below this video in my timeline is a blue Tudor Black Bay on bracelet would be the perfect complement to cruise with in the GT-350
Beautiful!
