  • We had a Sony Video 8 camcorder and took shots of High Salvington and Worthing showing the aftermath of the Great Storm. Note the roof blown from the shops on Thomas A'Becket, plus Bost Hill, Salvington Hill, Crockhurst Hill and the Seafront near Goring.

1:55 "The roof blown from the shops" is not at the Thomas A Becket, it is actually Half Moon Parade at the bottom of Half Moon Lane where it meets Salvington Road & Ashacre Lane.

Awesome video, my mum also had a Video8, and took it over to Bushy Park, Hampton, to film some of the scenes. Lovely Range Rover, my dad had a red A reg at the time.

I was in a fourth floor flat in Roehampton SW London when it hit. I was six years old. I can remember the double bolted window in my bedroom being blasted open in the middle of the night. My mothers boyfriend came in and had to use his entire body to shut it and the vacuum made my ears pop. Minutes later, a chunk of mud the size of a tennis ball hit and stuck to the window.
I'll never forget how strong that storm was. It was absolutely terrifying.
