Follow along with Adult Art Curriculum Specialist, Jereme Scott, MFA as he illustrates how to create a portrait using cut up, old magazines and discarded paper.
Wow, this is beautiful. Well done! I came looking on YT on how to create a mosaic image with paper showing detail, varying values and dimension. Yours is exactly what I was looking for. Your instructions and directions are clear and very well done. I love how you presented this. Not too much talking but enough information, calm music, nothing too jarring. This video is a pleasure to watch and listen to. Thank you so much for sharing.
This is one of if not the most amazing instructional video on magazine mosaic and collage. Watch it a few times to really understand the grid system because its so important.
I recently have become interested in mosaic Art. I have never created Art. I find myself at peace watching others create. This upload has bought me back several times. This creative space is so soothing, healing and educational. To the artists may God Bless your steps and everything you touch . The content and the music are perfect.
Wow, I’m so impressed! Our family is living in Turkey and I just started teaching an art class here. I composed a lesson plan on paper cutting and tearing from magazines to make collages, then realized I might be able to see an example online. I found this! I grew up in HoCo and our parents and siblings still live there, so we visit frequently. In fact, I am a HoCo library member and just used the library extensively with my kids this past summer. I’m proud to see we have such amazing resources and talented professionals like yourself putting out beautiful content. Thanks for this!
Just superb! I am coming back to quilting after being away for so many years. This would serve as an excellent model for portrait quilting! Thank you do much for sharing Mr. Scott!
This is what I do for my outlines... I take a snapshot of my reference photo, post it on Facebook for only me to see. Go to Facebook on my smart TV and zoom to desired size and trace on tracing paper. Then, use carbon paper to trace traced image onto canvas.
This is absolutely beautiful work. I am trying to learn to draw. This is really a great way to start. I tried, but use a picture with a watch. I thought it would be easier, it wasn’t. I got the grid correct, just need to keep trying the drawing. I can do the collage . I will keep trying. Thank you. I would love to see more of your artwork 😊
I've watched this twice - and will no doubt watch it yet again: it is utterly stunning. I am full of admiration for this work and it has inspired me to start planning my own. Thank you from the UK.
This art creation is amazing!!!! GREAT JOB! Thank you for sharing step by step instructions as I’ve never done this before but am very encouraged to try it!
WOW. That is way cool and very beautiful. Thank you for posting. Watching you and listening to your video was quite relaxing. Well done! The image is stellar!
What an incredible piece! Ms Ginsberg is my personal hero. You captured her likeness and honoured her in such a beautiful way. Thank you so very much for sharing your process! Bless
Omg, just retired. Love art, not very artistic - BUT, I can follow these WONDERFUL directions, and I worshipped RBG. what an appropriate time to celebrate her wisdom and grace, unlike the more recent Supreme Court Justices. THANK YOU🥰👍😊
Jereme says, "On Large paper: I make 2"x2" grid to start. Then in the T-zone and other detail areas, I'd cut the grid smaller into 1"x1" squares. The grid will typically get smaller to pin point exactly where features are located. The smaller the grid the more accuracy of your mark making." Hope that helps!
I did this with my 4th graders , but it depends on what your making, my class did a forest which took about a hour and half since they wanted to put lot of details, but doing something easy like a flower won't take much time unless you put a lot of details but it's really fun.
I love this but now I have a negative sentiment towards this video because our teacher made us do this due tomorrow with limited materials and instructions. And we have other activities to do
Beautiful portrait but terrible subject. She was the judge who first wrote an article expressing her reasons why the age of consent should be 12. Horrible woman
That was awesome. It captured the likeness and the spirit of this inspiring woman.

Totally agree!
Wow! Amazing! And I learned so much! Can't wait to try this! Thank you!!
Love the video and the technique. The soundtrack just takes me away to somewhere else as I watch it.
This is an incredible piece. You have the patience of a Saint putting this together.
This is one of if not the most amazing instructional video on magazine mosaic and collage. Watch it a few times to really understand the grid system because its so important.
Omg, thank you so much. This is the absolute best collage video I have ever seen. Unparalleled.
Thank you for this. Not a lot out there on this style of collage. Been looking for a couple days. Glad i found your video.
This is by far one of the best videos showing how to make a collage. Very nice. Thank you.
Wow!!! That’s amazing!!!
Wonderful! Thank you Jereme Scott, excellent tutorial. Best instruction on grid method I have seen.
Amazing! And was a polished performance. You inspired me to do one for my daughter. Also, the video was easy listening. Bravo!
Mr. Scott, this is wonderful. I think Derek Gores would be impressed, and that is high praise.

I can’t believe how beautiful this is.

1 more thing, LOVE the eye color choices - cheeky! what a tribute!! also, can you drop info on the music? just too perfect, all of it!
Amazing
instead of creating the grid, can't you print on a thicker paper and cover the photo directly?
Amazing, how do u get exact shapes like lips, eyes, glasses etc???
wow!
WOW!!
lindo parabens
Awesome. Please tell me the name of the music . Thank you
So, with the large paper do you draw grid squares twice as big (2x2) or the same size, with twice as many squares? 😊
Jereme says, "On Large paper: I make 2"x2" grid to start. Then in the T-zone and other detail areas, I'd cut the grid smaller into 1"x1" squares. The grid will typically get smaller to pin point exactly where features are located. The smaller the grid the more accuracy of your mark making."

UNDERRATED
This is greT‼️
How many hours did this take you to complete? I would love to try this with my students but I don't want to be too ambitious.

buen video
Can i make it on canvas
Does this work with ripping the magazine as well?
It does, it’s just a very different effect when completed!
How can I contact with this artist and more information on this technique?
Hello! You can reach us at askhcls@hclibrary.org and they can forward the message to the artist! Thanks!
Müthiş bir eser
I love this but now I have a negative sentiment towards this video because our teacher made us do this due tomorrow with limited materials and instructions.

I don’t want to do it
Awesome…but RBG?! Blech!
Nice...although I like Clarence Thomas better. 😉
Beautiful portrait but terrible subject. She was the judge who first wrote an article expressing her reasons why the age of consent should be 12. Horrible woman
