I disagree with Anne with an E. From a production and acting point of view, yes I agree. But adding 2010s social and political values in late 1800s and 1900s works of literature is not only an anachronism, but it changes history. So I would keep Anne the way she was intended to be.

@@flowerchild777unfortunately the 3rd one “the continuing story” is not based on any of the books and is a joyless series where Anne and Gil are in Europe during World War 1 surrounded by death. It just doesn’t feel right because nothing like that happened in the books. I think it’s best to stop watching the Sullivan series after the first sequel that ends with Anne and Gil on the bridge. People who complain that Anne with an E is too dark must have never seen the third Sullivan series.

I am so glad that I grew up getting to watch these movies! They were so good, I just rewatched them the past few days. Meghan Follows is the definitive Anne! The cast of these versions is the best! They capture the characters so well and make you love them all.
No one can replace Meghan Follows &the rest of her cast in this rendition of Anne of Green Gables....
This production by Sullivan Entertainment was probably the best miniseries ever done, I know the first two parts were done by Kevin Sullivan, but all three are gripping and lovable from beginning to end! The first miniseries I WORE OUT the VHS tapes because I watched them so much! This is a timeless tale that was charming, well acted and scripted and pulled EVERY emotion from you! From laughter to tears, joy and agony, and literally stand up and cheer moments throughout! Megan Follows owned Anne in every aspect of her performance! Lucy Maud Montgomery herself would even applaud from the grave on how well she captured Anne’s essence, spirit and charm true to the character she envisioned a century earlier! This when it appeared on Wonderworks on PBS, always was one of their anchor shows during their pledge drive! It’s because this family classic is timeless and will be enjoyed by many generations!
I think that out of the many versions, it's easily the best dramatisation by far. However, it's such a shame that during the remastering process it ended up so dark looking. Do you have this Sullivan Entertainment remaster and, if so, is the darkness overcome by switching up the TV's brightness?
This version with Megan Follows is by far the best!! I started watching newer versions but never finished. Megan nails Ann with an 'e' to perfection! I have the original 4 VHS movies but there are others after that I can't seem to find.

I LOVED this version growing up!! This took me back to when I would have stays with my grandparents. Anne was everything I wanted to be. ♥️
Not to knock the recent incarnation, but I hold Megan Follows's Anne Shirley near and dear to my heart.

The best of all versions. More Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe will come in the future, but can't compare with Meghan and Jonathan as Anne and Gilbert.
You can look at this in a way that we're clinging to rose-tinted, nostalgic 80's Anne just because we don't like change, however this is truly poignant filmmaking that has captured more than just the original work. A cast so great to inspire you to want to take up acting, music to soothe and tear up your soul to the point it is drenched, and brilliant cinematography that captured the magic of it all - these films have it. I love AoGG, a true favorite.
I agree. All of it - the music, the landscape, the scenes, the compatibility of the actors - all of it was perfect. It was magic. It can't be redone.
It's not that people can't accept "change"....the problem is the remake is woke garbage that didn't even apply to the time period therefore is historically inaccurate, and is a misrepresentation of the original books. Also, not all change is "progress"

I look at them as completely separate entities, can't be compared. This will always be my All. Time. Favourite, though I did like parts of the new one too. It's like comparing homemade pizza to delivery - both really good in their own way, but two completely separate foods, in my opinion anyway. :)

I saw this trilogy this past summer - not for the first time. The best series I have seen. So incredibly well done. Everything about this movie is brilliant !

Beyhond sublime - divine even. Megan is just too perfect, and the rest are also wonderful. The Amybeth McNulty version is also beautiful: they both are, and I won't express a preference. Thank you to all involved, especially to Lucy Maud Montgomery, who created a work of perfection for eternity.

My All time favorite. Mesmerizing scenes. Excellent screen play. Megan nailed her character. I watched this when I came to US in 2000. I have been watching this once every 4 or 5 years. Very uplifting. Good job on the whole team. I always get them from the Library. I think it is time to own my own.

Just wanna comment that, even if you do like it so very much, there's NO ACTUALLY NEED to say that this is better than A, worse then B and blablabla Not speaking only about the adaptations but about the books as well. This series is not like the book and Anne with an E is not like this series either. They can be all good materials...its just more amount of Anne's and Gilbert's story for us to ENJOY.
If you still thinking about Awae as being worse or bad or anything, Megan Follows HERSELF (the 85s Anne) loves Amybeth(Netflix's Anne) and they're now filming together.

Normally I would agree with you... but this specific story is so dear to everyone's hearts... it's Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie forever. You probably didn't grow up watching the 80's version so you wouldn't understand. It's like someone redoing Twilight with completely different characters. You just can't win that one. ;)

Is there a need for you to tell people that there’s no need to say which is better? Lol. If you like all of it, then say that. But some people think one version is better than the other and are entitled to say so. I mean what’s the difference between you telling others that there’s no need to say which is better and them saying which they think is better? I’m just saying. Honestly, it’s almost like censorship. Everything is not as good everything else. It’s just not. And people are at liberty to think and say that.
Folks are entitled to their opinions and expression them. This is a public space. You don't have to like them, but why must you complain about others speaking their minds about comparisons? You come off as judgmental and butthurt.

This is by far the best Anne series! It's what we grew up on. The funny thing is, at the same time, we would be listening to Focus on the family radio Theaters Anne CD and we always have all the characters in the movies in our heads. They ARE the roles. No one else can play better. BTW if you ever get a chance, that is also the best audio for Anne Of Green Gables. We actually had worn the cds completely out years ago and just triumphantly saved enough to get it again.

The first 2 was good in the 80s version. Still my favorite adaptation. I don't know what they were thinking about the 3rd one and after. I have also seen the 70s adaptation with Kim Braden which was closer to the books.

I loved the first two, but hated the the third strayed completely from the books.
Shame you messed up the timelines when you did this you missed a lot of great material just to rush to WW1.
OMG, they keep adding horrible soundtracks to these trailers. Part of the genius of the original was the soundtrack. This garbage music is a disgrace to the film.
