How to Wire a Kill Switch for Toyota 4Runner (1984-1989) or Toyota Pickup

Also, be sure to get at least a 20 amp switch, most on amazon on 10 amp. The one I have linked is 25 amp.

I was able to wire a kill switch easily on my 1984 4x4 Base 22r by using the the service port plug at the base of the ignition coil. Use a spade terminal connected to 14g or thicker wire, run that to a single pole switch and then to ground. I mounted the switch under the driver’s side kick panel -it’s hidden but I can easily reach into the top of the kick panel with a single finger and switch it on or off.

Really dumb question… would this work for a carb’d 22re as opposed to an EFI truck?
Does it work with the fuel pump the same way?

carbureted engines dont have an electric fuel pump (usually), you should just make the igition coil switched instead

So, since 1996 I put a hidden toggle switch in my older cars. You can get a discount on your vehicle insurance tell them you have a anti theft device.

I was wondering if you needed a fuse to go with the switch?
So if there’s a short, it just fries the fuse and not the fuel pump?

I didn't use a fuse, in the numerous videos I watched for other vehicles, no one else used a fuse either. Could be a good move though, I'd had to do more research on it.

The fuel pump is already fused. No need to add another to the circuit

Yes. The same relay to fix the click no start issue can be used as a starter kill. Just add a hidden switch in line with the relay coil

@@dougmaywald7241 Thanks, I'm gonna look into doing that. I've got an automatic and the setup looks a little different than the couple kill switch videos on the standard transmissions.
