At 15:43, Leth power-hit it out of the map, causing it to respawn above the ground, to which the aura had collision with the ground, meaning it stayed in the field completely, instead of being tethered to the ground/walls. I wonder, if Leth just set the ball spawn position slightly higher off kickoff such that the aura wouldn’t phase into the ground, would the mode be more typical (yet still unpredictable) to play? I’d like to see him test this…

@@Lethamyr since it likes falling through things, can you make it collide *less* somehow? Especially if it still collides *some*. IDK, not something intuitive to code... getting the aura in-field just a bit more often sounds like a good idea in my head though

Sometimes we make something that is fun. Sometimes we make something fun with some issues or idiosyncrasies. Sometimes... we make a thing that... has no redeemable qualities.

An interesting way to make this slightly more playable and predictable while still keeping it super wonky would be to keep the ball’s centre of mass inside of the field along with the ball you can physically touch. That way it would still move really strangely but without turning into a bobblehead, plus you could use rubble power ups more effectively. I’m also really curious as to what adding infiniball would have done.
Very interesting. Actually reminded me of the dumbbell dual ball thing, the one where the mass was between the two balls on the outside.
It seems like the center of mass has it's own collision, if there was a way to move the center of mass without giving it collision, I think it would be more strange.

If you can separate the aura from the ball more, you could probably do a weird challenge:
Each team has half a pitch with their own ball, and it shoots the "aura ball" outside of the pitch and you to score on some target outside the pitch. Maybe a wall like the tetris/brick breaker style maps you've done
This is a perfect demonstration of how simple physical laws can result in completely unexplainable phenomena.

You might also be able to make it unpredictable by adding a random vector and velocity when a player hits it (or just on any surface if thats easier). Effectively making every player a bronze because nobody can really control the ball
You should do this again but allow the aura to freely pass through the ground and walls, that would be interesting to see
It's not as bad as it seems. You just have to imagine that the visible ball is a single point on the edge of a bigger ball that has the aura as its center.
I think if you extend the goal zone down under the ground a but then you have a working game mode. After staring at it for a while, I figured out a lot of its weird tendencies

This totally seems to me like the aura ball has 100% gravity while the "real" ball has 100% physics. You should totally do a gamemode where the visible ball has 100% physics and gravity, but you still have to score the aura ball. I think that would be an even better gamemode! Maybe more predictable, but still chaotic!

It seems like the aura has a different interaction with the ground vs the ceiling, maybe make a map that has the floor on the ceiling so the aura can roll around up there? You'd be able to drop it from above the net that way I think

Map idea: each player’s car has a force field around it that repels the ball, kind of like an opposite magnet. You can still somewhat control the ball using the force field rather than actually touching it

I wonder how this would work if you just offset center of mass it by like 10-20% of the ball's radius. It would create some wacky touches but still be controllable to an extent and hit a sweet spot between silliness and playability.
What if you make a bigger map around the regular map, and reversed the aura/ball so the hittable part was on the outside and you had to try to control it from outside the map?

Isn't it like the double ball or split ball, but one is outside the map? I think it makes sense when it moves like that, because the floor is in a way of the second ball and one of them bounce of the surface while being connected to each other. The second ball is like an anchor. Kinda fun idea.
Next mode make it just half outside the ball or just a full ball beside it and watch how crazy the ball acts 😂

so, a lot of confusion here with rumble items, i have commented a few times here about how they work... the reason the punch kept "glitching" is because for example zurx would use his punch, and on his screen it would use and not go away, the "faded out" icon is a placeholder for the time it takes the game to start the 10 second timer again... but what was happening on the SERVER side, is the punch never got used, so it stayed permanently in the "faded out" phase... this happens commonly in regular rumble as well when it comes to the crossbar/backboard area...
how it works boils down to the "travel time" of the powerup... this is most easily seen with the grapple! Have you ever used a grapple while in net, only to have it glue you to the crossbar and freak out for about 10 seconds or so? that is the same thing that is happening here... because that fraction of a second between when you use the item on your screen, vs when it would use on the server side... is the difference between it being able to be used at all!
It was seen a lot on this map due to barely ever being able to "target" the aura, which was required to use the rumble items... Often it was only visible and targetable for a fraction of a second or so... which led to a spam click on the rumble button, and then the "glitch" happening because the window to use a rumble item was just THAT short
If video responses were still a thing on youtube, i would record a clip of me making this happen in rumble free play so it could be visibly explained... but unless i am really stupid, i dont think video responses have been a thing for a long long time...
Idea: get rid of ball depth perception. In other words, make it so you can’t tell whether it’s a little ball really close or a big ball far away.
1. Make it so the ball only has an outline.
2. Have the ball change size constantly throughout the game.
3. Get rid of the white ring under the ball, ball shadow, and ball trail.
4. Increase the bounciness and/or lower the gravity, otherwise the ball may roll a lot giving away its position on the ground.
do you think a gamemode where the cars center of gravity is changed would work? or like the players have their actual solid hitbox somewhere in front of them and where the actual car is cant interact with the ball?
When Zurx said the ball is controlled by AI brings me to an idea. Is it possible to play against Nexto in some of your maps? Would love to see that how the Bot can handle something like that.

Can you make the direction the ball is moving randomized whenever it hits a wall so it plays out like a super bumpy map but on a standard field
What would a game look like if you couldn't go up the walls? I don't know if it's a good idea or not, but the question just popped into my mind, you could still go for ground to air dribbles, but you wouldn't be able to do backboard saves and stuff like that.
Can you do this but soft-tether the aura and physical ball? (Like a rope) I think that would be even more fun for the crew 😂

Dunno if this is possible or has been done already. But can’t you possibly make the ball just change its direction when it bounces but it keeps all of its momentum so it would still bounce normally just in random directions?

OH, LETH. That split down the middle of the goals map, but with this type of ball situation split between sides. Is it possible to make BOTH balls legit, just tethered at a fixed distance (probably the width of the goal/slightly bigger for some added spice)? I THINK there was another video where you were able to do that. Teamwork with a side of trolling your own teammate. Could be good. Consider it? 👉👉
(a little extra context for clarity.... I think the ball should be PERFECTLY mirrored on either side, not this type of thing. I don't do maps, so it's hard to explain. Hopefully this makes enough sense.)
