    Matt my order arrived today. My first Drachm and some other goodies. So impressed with the detail from a coin made 301-310 bc. It is one I already have an attachment to and will never be selling.
    Also for matt's future customers I asked for something he did not have and he managed to source it within 24 hours. I envisaged that being a few weeks (or longer). I impulsively and embarrassingly made a purchase elsewhere.
    Note to self and other customers if this man says he will do something, he really means it.

    • @ThompsonsCoins
      @ThompsonsCoins  Před rokem +2

      Aha I am very glad to hear that your order arrived safe and sound! Welcome to the unbelievably broad world of ancient coin collecting!
      That happened to be a unique set of circumstances so I hope the 24 hours of less timeframe doesn't become my new benchmark 😅
      Thanks for the support mate!

    I am soooo glad to hear Matt talk about coins I used to collect EVERY week for years. It brought back alot of great memories. I've been smitten by the rush to collect the $2 coins as Matt spoke about.
    BUT, one thing I bought from Matt was a Medallion which bears the exact design of the 1934/5 Centenary Florin (Matt's favourite and mine as well) and a killer reverse depicting Agricultural flora and fauna with a plate inscribed for the Berkley Show. It wasn't presented as is the case with almost ALL of the 407 bronze 3oz pieces minted by Stokes. It even came in the original case/box.
    Thankyou Matt Thompson for your ongoing infectious enthusiasm which brought me back to collecting.
    Cya!

    Those are some RAD exam glasses! Florins are coins I do not have! I think the Royal Visit coin is the one I like the most. If I had to design a commemorative coin for Australia, I think it would be one for Steve Irwin who for years was a great ambassador of Australia to the world. His love of animals and nature encouraged so many to look closer into the natural places around them.

    • @ThompsonsCoins

      It's true, quite a lot of what I come across is bulk "junk" although I tend to use the terminology of "pre" and "post" to discern between purities. They are a lot of fun to sift through regardless of quality!

    Parliament House has always been my favourite Florin. I wouldn’t knock any of them back tbh.
    The 1937/38 Crowns are my favourite Pre Decimal Australian coins.
    The coloured 2012 50 cent is a decimal favourite but tbh there’s not many “modern” coins that float my boat. The 2018 30th anniversary of the $2 coin set is ok. I remember they couldn’t get rid of those neither and now the price is astronomical. Just seen a set for $1250. 😮

    • @ThompsonsCoins
      @ThompsonsCoins  Před rokem +1

      I love the style of the Parliament House florin, I think for a lot of people that is their first introduction to unique florins so it holds a special place in my journey for that reason too!
      I tend to agree with you on modern coins although the honey bee $2 was a refreshing change from the typical ring style designs the mint often produce!
      Thanks for watching :)

    • @sticustom
      @sticustom Před rokem

      @@ThompsonsCoins yes the honey bee was the change ( no pun intended) we needed for design sake. Everything, apart from the poppy was round in design. It was good to see change with the honey bee design.
      I’d like to see more colourful designs. They have the technology to do so.

    Hey gday Matt it’s always great to see you , it is a great coin , but few people know that a real expensive florin is the normal 1927 plain circulation issue florin . Matt do you have a 1927 plain circulation issue in mint state ? Not the common Parliament House 1927 .

    • @ThompsonsCoins
      @ThompsonsCoins  Před rokem +1

      G'day Kayne! The standard coat of arms version is a little less common but not excessively rare (due to the mintage of 1.4 million) Many coins from that period in mint state will command a hefty premium though as so many are heavily circulated. One of the real key dates of the florin series is the 1932. They can fetch really big numbers in high grades!

    • @ThompsonsCoins
      @ThompsonsCoins  Před rokem

      That's a great question! It all depends on the quality of each individual coin and you must also factor in the time taken to get the coins back. The last batch of coins I had slabbed took 10 months to get back to me 🤯
      So if you are patient and have a high quality coin, absolutely go for it :)

    That really bothers me, lol. I have a few collectible coin series like that - every design is intricate and beautiful, EXCEPT ONE which is uninteresting and dull. Why do they do that. 😡 What's our option: don't buy it and have an incomplete set, or buy it to complete the set but then its always a constant disappointment. 🤷‍♀️

    • @ThompsonsCoins

      An incomplete set of coins is like wearing shoes to bed, sure you COULD do it... But it's not quite right and feels a little strange 😂
