- This video from Sears PartsDirect shows how to replace a broken lid lock in some Kenmore top-load washers. If your washer won’t run even though the lid is closed, or you notice that the Lid Lock light is flashing, you may need to replace the lid lock.
This repair guide covers vertical modular washers in the Kenmore 110-series. It also covers vertical modular washers in the Whirlpool Cabrio series and Maytag Centennial series. Vertical modular washers use a super-high-speed spin cycle that extracts water from the load; the lid stays locked to protect you from the fast-spinning parts.

I saved about $150.00 by doing this myself. Originally I had scheduled a tech to come by. It was $105.00 just to look at the machine& additional money for parts & labor.I quickly canceled the appointment. I ordered my part & installed it. A lid switch replacement was simple with this video.
Damn sears for the win in 2024 let’s fucking go

Thank you! Thank You! Thank You! this has saved me so much $$$$$
I just came upon this problem order the part, will the washer still work without the lid lock switch connected to the module?
The washer may start, fill and agitate but it won't start the spin cycle with a broken lid lock switch. Some models won't start the cycle or fill with a broken lid lock switch.
Very good instruction.
KENMORE, 110.2224251, SERIES 500
Just replaced the lid lock and latch. Machine stuck in "wash" cycle. Wash light blinks. Machine will not allow me to enter into diagnostic mode. Any ideas please?
What they replaced🤷🏻♀️ i just saw the detachment and thats it
If my washer just keeps flashing lid locked can that be reset? Why would this mechanism need to be replaced?
Mine is going the same thing...Did you figure this out??
The clips wont release the top when i lift and push back.
I need lid locked from a kenmore washing machine where i can call? The warranty services are finish but with this i can do myself. I need price and help in spanish but i dont know my mahine serie but i have a photo of lid locked. And p
in this .....
I replaced this on a Kenmore Model 110.20022012; and it is still not working. This was based on the error code I received. Any ideas what the problem could be?
The lid lock light flashes on your model of washer to indicate that the washer control detected an error code, not necessarily that the lid lock failed. We recommend that you enter the diagnostic test mode and look at the saved error codes as shown in this video: www.searspartsdirect.com/article/how-to-display-error-codes-on-vertical-modular-washers-vmws-video.html. Here’s a list of the error codes for your washer: www.searspartsdirect.com/washer-repair/error-codes/kenmore-110-model-vmw-top-load-washer-error-codes.html. Once you recall the error code from the washer control’s memory, follow the troubleshooting described in the error code list for that code.
Thank you for replying. The error code I received was specifically "Lid Lock" and "Water not filling." I don't have the exact codes in front of me, but that is what I received when running the diagnostic. So I replaced the lid lock switch and that did nothing. The reason for the other code was because I stopped the machine from filling because I wasn't sure that it wouldn't overflow when it started to fill randomly with the lid lock switch off. I had my dad look at it, and he released the pressure on the water lines -- that made it start working again. So far so good (but it's only been a week).
We’re glad to hear that the washer is working now. Pressure on the water lines may have prevented the fill valves from opening. If the washer stops working again and you need more help, let us know.
My machine has no mounting screws, I have the lid open but cannot remove the lid switch lock? Does anyone know how to? I have a Kenmore series 100 model 1105142511
Firmly push down on the lid lock and slide it to the right while continuing to push down to release the lid lock from the top panel.
@@searspartsdirect can the lid lock be eliminated and the machine will work
@@CarmenRivera-th9up No. The control won't operate the washer without the lid lock in place and working.
Lid lock switch are replaced. Lid lock light is still on ?
A blinking lid lock light doesn't always indicate a lid lock/switch failure on that type of washer. A flashing lid lock indicates that the washer detected a component failure that isn't necessarily the lid lock. We recommend that you follow the steps in this article/video to recall error codes and troubleshoot the failure: www.searspartsdirect.com/diy/article/how-to-display-error-codes-on-vertical-modular-washers-vmws-video
Can you please help me? Washer stopped working. Was stuck on lid locked. Would spin just a few then completely stop. Did Diagnostics several times and it indicated No Errors found. Ran the Calibration mode and everything worked. Washer still not working. Just in case, I replaced the Lid Lock Sensor and the Lid Lock latch..Now I cannot even get it to Calibrate. Did the error codes thing again and it still reads No Error codes.. A couple times it Sensed, Filled with water, then that's all. I had to turn it to rinse and spin cycle and it drained and spinned. Then I tried to wash on every cycle (Heavy, Delicates etc..) Nothing but Sense and Lid Lock lights. NOTHING...ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!! I cannot afford a new washer nor call a repair man to come....
Let us know the model number of your washer and we'll try to provide troubleshooting tips specific to your exact model of washer. Here are some general tips that may help you: Start and cycle and let the cycle run for 20 minutes to give the washer time to record an error code if the control is detecting an error. After 20 minutes, look at the control and record which lights are on and/or flashing. Cancel the cycle or run the drain and spin to drain the water out and then enter diagnostics and check for an error code. The control typically won’t stop running the cycle unless it detects a problem and records an error code.
@@searspartsdirect I will try your advice and if still won't work will message on here my Model numbers. Thanks for trying to help..
What happened??
i replaced the lock switch and it's still not locking right. The light is still blinking.
The lid lock also blinks on this type of washer if the control detects a component failure other than the lid lock. The control saves error codes in its memory when it detects problems. This video shows how to recover saved error codes: www.searspartsdirect.com/article/how-to-display-error-codes-on-vertical-modular-washers-vmws-video.html. The saved error codes will likely point you in the direction of the washer failure.
Shift actuator needs to be replaced
I've already replace the lid lock switch and still doesn't work. The washer machine has no power at all, and the lid lock light isn't blinking, it just stays on. Before I changed the lid switch I couldn't open the lid, now it doesn't lock properly. The model # 22242 series 300. Can anyone please help me?!
Your description of the problem suggests that the replacement lid lock is in the “locked” position. Unplug the washer and pull the lid lock off the bottom of the top panel. Check the locking tabs on the lid lock to see if they’re extended. If you find the locking tabs extended, then we recommend that you exchange the replacement lid lock assembly because that replacement lid lock shouldn’t be in the locked position. If you want to unlock the lid lock assembly by using the Manual Test Mode instead of exchanging the lid lock, then reinstall the lid switch and reassemble the washer. Enter the diagnostic test mode using the first 2 steps in this article/video: www.searspartsdirect.com/article/how-to-calibrate-a-washer-after-a-repair-video.html After step 2 (with the control lights flashing), turn the knob clockwise until the Spin and Done lights turn on and then press Start to enter the Manual Test Mode. Press Start to unlock the lid lock assembly. Press and hold the Start button for 3 seconds to exit the Manual Test Mode. If this process doesn’t unlock the lid lock assembly, then you’ll need to exchange the replacement lid lock assembly. If the replacement lid lock tabs aren’t extended in the “locked” position, then a faulty electronic control or a bad replacement lid lock could be causing this problem. We hope this information helps. If you need more assistance, let us know.
How do you test switch? My
Machine identical to one in video does not start agitate cycle. It will just skip and go straight to drain/spin
