  • This video is a demonstration of how to make homemade baby shampoo, lotion, powder and diaper rash cream. I got my containers from Amazon, except the powder container. (I couldn't find the right color.) I bought a jar of cajun seasoning at the grocery store and repurposed the jar.
    Ingredients:
    Baby Lotion
    3/4 c. Oil
    3 Tbs. Beeswax
    1 c. Aloe Vera Gel
    15-30 drops Essential Oils
    Baby Powder
    1 1/3 c. Arrowroot Powder
    2/3 c. Bentonite Clay
    1 Tbs. Powdered Herbs
    Baby Shampoo
    1 c. Castile Soap
    3 Tbs. Glycerin
    1 tsp. Oil
    1 tsp. Aloe Vera Juice
    1 Tbs. Water
    10 drops Essential Oil
    Diaper Rash Cream
    1/2 c. Herb-Infused Petroleum Jelly
    Spoonful of Bentonite Clay
    Spoonful of Zinc Oxide
    (Tea Tree Oil can be added for yeast diaper rashes.)

    Andrea, I have been loving your channel. I am trying to conceive - we have been trying for eight years and this year we finally gave in and I'm on clomid and metformin. When I watch your channel it relaxes me and reassures me that it is possible to have a baby and do everything as naturally as possible. Someday I hope to have such a cool herb collection and also the vast herbal knowledge you contain!
    Have you ever considered selling the products you showed in this video? I'm thankful that you post the recipes, but herbs are not always easy for some to store/purchase etc because of limited space or knowledge. I would most definitely buy the baby powder from you for example (when I get pregnant haha).
    Anyway I also just wanted to thank you for being awesome and making these videos. Wishing you a safe delivery with Hannah!!!

    Love it! It’s so satisfying to be able to have the know how to make stuff like this. I have to get one of those blenders. I make homemade cold cream and it whip it with a whisk until it all comes together and cools completely. It’s a good workout! I love that you make the effort even after having eight kids. Usually you slack more after each child. You have convicted me to get on with completing a baby book for the last three out of the eight children I have. Off topic but I was wondering if you could do a Kon Marie update and let us know if that method has been sustainable in your home. Just curious. God bless you all🤗

      Not necessarily. Anything that has herbs or essential oils stays more potent if they aren't exposed to light, but (especially in this case where it's not for medicinal purposes) there's no harm in using a clear bottle.

      The lotion may spoil, but you can buy preservatives on Amazon fairly inexpensively. I'm going to add Leucidal to my next batch, but it's not here yet so I didn't put it in this batch. The other things should last almost indefinitely. There are so many choices for herbs and oil. I would just google it and see what you find.

    Hi Andrea, Your herbal products are so well researched and pure and I love how you've used your cricket machine to label your bottles. It looks so professional. I am wondering if you can find an herbal remedy for your dogs skin? (sorry, I've forgotten his name) Poor thing, I just want to cry when I see how red and itchy his skin looks. I know you said you had taken him to the vet, did they do a mange scrap on him? There must be something that can be done for his inflamed skin. Maybe a daily bath to loosen the dead skin and then a message with coconut oil? Maybe that could be something you have one of the kids do. I know you have your hands full so I hated to even bring it up but I just feel so bad for him.

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  Před 6 lety +1

      We've tried countless homemade remedies (both topical and oral), medicated shampoos, food changes, supplements, etc. We currently treat him 3 times a week with two different medicated shampoos, but it seems pretty irrelevant. He never gets better. The one and only thing that ever made a significant difference was a cortisone shot two years ago. It was amazing; he was like a new dog! When it wore off, he lost his ability to walk, eat or drink and he began vomiting bile. For three days, we thought it was the end of him. Once his adrenals kicked in again, he slowly recovered, but there was no way we were going to do that again. This past weekend our veterinarian had his local vaccine clinic. (He sets up shop in the fire hall and does vaccines assembly-line style and the town sets up a table to take care of licenses.) Tom took Knuckles down, as usual, and the vet thought maybe we could try very low-dose cortisone pills. He said he'd drop some in the mail to us. We'll see how it goes. We've been working at it so long I've kind of lost hope in finding his miracle cure, but you never know.

    • @chrisdeecaregiver2
      @chrisdeecaregiver2 Před 6 lety

      Hi again, I should have known you've tried everything. Since the cortisone seemed to help what do you think about using 1% hydrocortisone salve on him? I use it on my face when my dermatitis flairs up and it works well. I buy it at the dollar store but you can get it anywhere . Just a thought.

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  Před 6 lety +1

      I've been nervous to try any cortisone on him since "the incident", but the vet seems to think this will be alright. It would definitely be my preference to use something inexpensive and readily available, so if the pills work, I may give the cream a try.

    I love you make your own baby products! If the Lord blesses us with another bundle of joy, I would love to try these recipes. Do any of your babies ever get cradle cap or eczema? If so what do you use for that? I have always used commercial products.

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  Před 6 lety

      For cradle cap, I massage oil onto their scalp about 20 minutes before bathing them. Then use a baby hairbrush with baby shampoo to gently scrub their scalp. It works wonders. None of my kids have had eczema, but I've heard rinsing the skin daily with chickweed tea (or using chickweed in a lotion, I suppose) does wonders.

  • @hearsthewater

    I thought I would share this with you, just so you know. If I have shared it before, forgive me. I am a "contrary reactor" to lavender. This means that instead of making me sleep peacefully I have very vivid nightmares. Instead of keeping me calm and happy, when conscious, smelling lavender makes me enraged. Like angry in a very scary way. Thankfully most people are not contrary reactors like me, but I thought you might want to know that in case you ever run across someone that gets cranky instead of calm with lavender or acts the opposite of any herbal preparation.

    Why petroleum jelly? We can't use it, so we use coconut oil, beeswax and Shea butter. Would that have the same effect when adding everything else? Do the herbs loose it's potency after a year? (That is what I was told, but I don't know) thank you so much for sharing these! I may have to start making our own. What a sweet momma your family has. Have a wonderful day!

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  Před 6 lety +1

      I like petroleum jelly because it's the best moisture barrier (I just use it for diaper rashes, to it's not used very frequently.) Using the other things you mention would work well, too, though. Herbs do lose potency over time. They don't become harmful, just not as effective.

    I know this is a really weird question that you’ve probably never been asked but, I was wondering how do you make sure you fully clean everything you use. Like the spoons, measuring cups, etc if you use them for cooking as well how do you make sure they are completely clean before you use them to cook? ( that is if you don’t use separate things) I didn’t really know how to word this question so I’m sorry.

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  Před 6 lety +1

      Nothing I used is toxic, so there's no reason to worry. I just wash them like everything else. I do have separate cooking utensils for soap making, however, because of the caustic nature of the ingredients.

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  Před 6 lety +2

      By that, I mean making soap from scratch with lye and oil. The shampoo I made in this video was made using the castile soap I made from scratch. It's no longer caustic. When I made the castile soap originally, though, I used my separate soap making utensils.

    • @notzajoc502

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  Před 6 lety +1

      It should be good for a couple of months. It shouldn't separate. You can add a preservative to make it last longer. I ordered Leucidal Liquid SF (made from radishes) from Amazon to add to my next batch.

  • @OfAgeNonRelatedAlive

    Would there be an alternative for the petroleum jelly in the diaper cream? (I’m just not a fan of it)

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  Před 6 lety +3

      I prefer petroleum jelly for diaper rashes because it's such a good moisture barrier and holds the herbs onto the surface of the skin, but you can use coconut oil, or another oil, thickened with beeswax, instead. I'm sure you could even add something like shea butter to get a nice texture.

    andrea, are you ever worried your new baby will be allergic too the ingredients? (Im all for the natural stuff, I think its much better for you)

      No, none of my kids have any allergies (aside from Thomas' hay fever) so I'm not concerned about it. If it turned out the baby was, though, we'd throw this stuff out or use it elsewhere and get something different. No use worrying over something that hasn't happened!

    What do you use to mix? Like a whisk or??

      I used my stick blender. You could use a spoon or whisk for everything but the lotion. If you don't have a stick blender, you could use a regular blender.

      I bought them from Amazon, except the shaker bottle. I couldn't find any for sale like that, so I bought a bottle of cajun seasoning from the grocery store and re-purposed the container.

    Oh no, petroleum jelly isn't good hun. Use coconut oil. You had me until you used petroleum jelly. 😢

    Andrea Mills ♡♡♡Does the shampoo bubble? I'm looking to make a bubble bath for sensitive skin. I usually just use baby shampoo but that becomes expensive.

      It does make some bubbles, but not as much as if you used a different kind of soap. I made my soap with 100% olive oil. Something made with a harder fat, like coconut oil, would bubble a lot more.
