  • In Part 1 we show how we built the hull and modified a “Deep V” trailer for our new houseboat, affectionately named “Woody”. The boat is built from Roy Schreyer's Dianne's Rose houseboat plans.
    In the upcoming Part 2 we turn the hull. Do not miss that one!

    Been watching the designer's channel about this boat for a few years now. Seems like a great design. Good job on the hull! Love the colour, too.

    From a little research it seems like Roy using his modified v bottom has a pretty good little design there when I can afford it I'm getting some plans and building one for myself

    Love your 20 ft version of Roy's Dianne's Rose!! Can you tell me the towing weight of your boat "Woody"? I am subscribed and have watched your video's multiple times and am almost ready to start one for myself in the mountains of North Carolina! Thanks for your inspiration!!

      @@backyardboatbuilders6417 Thanks for the response. I was afraid it would be considerably more. Hoping to build mine this winter. Maybe we'll see each other on the nearby lakes!!!

    Thank you for your video!
    I'm going to build one of these so I can fish for salmon from my bed with my dog.
    How many hours did this take you to build and about how much money did it cost?

    It appears your using regular exterior plywood, I was thinking of using marine ply on the hull and regular ply for the rest. What are your feelings about this?

    • @backyardboatbuilders6417
      @backyardboatbuilders6417  Před 4 lety +5

      The plans call for exterior plywood. All of our boats were built from exterior plywood with no problems. On our first boat I was concerned so I checked with a marine engineer. He said the difference in good exterior and marine plywood was only that marine had less voids making it stronger. However, we found that when exterior is covered with fiberglass it is very strong. I think the decision should be what the plans call for and what you feel comfortable with.

    • @edwinfell7177
      @edwinfell7177 Před 4 lety +2

      Backyard Boatbuilders Thank you for your research, exterior ply cuts my build expenses substantially.

    • @iamblaineful
      @iamblaineful Před 4 lety +2

      for protected saltwaters and inland freshwater, exterior grade plywood is more than adequate when sheathed in epoxy and glass. Absolutely no need to spend the high price on marine plywood unless you plan on cross oceans with it. Literally no point in the added expense unless you have money to burn.

    Fun to follow the build, but wish you would have shown the work actually being performed, via video footage, as opposed to a compilation of photos. Just one man’s opinion.
