    Great to meet Alexandra and her pack. I've embarked on a similar nomadic life (holding firm on the 4 dogs who hit the road with me...). Have experienced many of the same conversations (family, friends, with concerns...etc). YET...my dogs are better behaved and healthier than when we lived on a large property! I am free and content and feel safer than in my own home. Just wish more folks in our society would see the blessing and the uplifting energy in this lifestyle instead of raining down criticism. Thank you both!!

      Followthedoubleyellowline Followthedoubleyellowline I worry about keeping my dog cool. How do you do this on the road when you have to go to a store or church or something. I can’t just leave her in a car or outside of it.

      @carolann542 Před 5 lety +6

      @@carolecota9625 Hi Carole Cota - Didn't know if your question was addressed to me but I'm happy to share!!
      Dogs in the truck: Challenge #1 - Keeping dogs comfortable: Priority #1. This is a daily dance particularly during these HOT months. I manage by utilizing a few strategies. Always, always put up sun shade in the windshield and leave windows open enough for a muzzle but not to get their head out (I have Houdini dogs that can squeeze thru remarkably small spots). This ritual has also become a cue to the pups to "settle", they are not getting out. Park in shade, away from busy spots. GO OUT EARLY! No getting around this. You can come back and nap later. And, if it doesn't work - don't do it. Since we stay in RV parks, there is usually a camp store and I shop there. Yes, a bit more $$, but it supports the park, I get to take a little walk on my own (pups nap in the RV in the A/C), and saves a trip in the truck. Bonus: shopping in camp stores has been a great social opportunity to meet park staff and fellow campers and I've gathered amazing RV tips from this experience. Also keep bowls of water accessible in the cab of the truck with bottles handy to refill. Leave frozen water bottles on the seat for the dog to lay on if he/she desires (only if they don't eat them....yes, mine tried that) Again, if it is too hot - don't do it. I've had the sheriff called on me, only for him to find my dogs were completely comfortable - the general public can be overzealous. No need to cause anyone undue stress. Finally, if at a social function, a restaurant, an appointment, etc., simply excuse yourself for a moment to check your pups. You'll feel better. Travel with pups is a remarkable opportunity - let them be your guide to an amazing journey.

    I love kindred spirits who are foster fails just like me. I have a little maltese I fostered after being taken from a puppy mill. He was never touched or socialized. When I felt that he was good to be adopted, he was brought back twice for bad behaviour and biting. He never bit me. Since he was returned twice I adopted him and named him return. He is such a big baby and likes to be carried around all day if I would do it. So when my job taking care of my mom is over, I will be hitting the road in an RV with my 4 dogs and a parrot. The parrot is also a huge messy foster fail.

    Hi Robin ~ I travel rarely with my 32 foot class C, living in it full-time with my little Maltese. I've become less mobile with age and this inspired me to 'Get Back Our There!!! Thank you for this awesome interview, lovely meeting Alexandra and all her 'fur kids'!

    Thank you for doing rescue work. We need way more like you to help the cause. Happy to see you saved a Chow as well. They often can't catch a break in the shelter system. I have two rescue Chows myself and also advocate for shelter dogs, particularly in kill shelters.
    Keep up the great work!

    Very neat young lady. Loved all the dogs. Felt sorry for the potties, as he was crying. But, I saw that she did get him out to play!!
