Hell, I want to play remake badly, but I can't because of the region block and I have dropped my third playthrough of System Shock 2, so I can't be trusted. But that review is good, you can base your opinion on it and... hell, System Shock Enhanced Edition is really cheap (if you search for guys who sell digital keys) if I remember correctly, so why not? For me remake sucks. And 2 not better than 1, only atmosphere is in the same level. 1 is the best game for me. Even first deus ex can't beat those mechanics and abilities. I was really shocked how new games can't even get close to the first ss. It was 1994... Game is literally came out after first dooms. Mind blowing. And yes, you should play enhanced edition, because the original isn't good enough for new systems.
It looks awful. Acid blurred colors. It's very unfunny to play and to shoot. AI even feels more stupid than game from 1994. And it looks like Unity game (but it's UE if I remember correctly). It feels so wrong than original so I prefer pixelated original far more. It feels more realistic despite old graphics. And those old mechanics feels more advanced than remake. It would be better if they were inspired by first Bioshock for texture design. It should look more raw and serious, not like toys with glossy shiny sparks. I don't know. I hate it so much. But yeah, a lot of people like it a lot. A lot of people are casuals and a lot of them didn't play original one or just second one. Original one is actually has bad AI too (because 1994 lol) but the new one didn't improve it at all. Mechanics in origianl feels waaay better than ANY new AAA game. Even if they are not so good actually (but 1994... they were revolutionary). But new games DIDN'T beat it even NOW. What's going on? Everyone talking about GRAPHICS, but your NEXT-GEN graphics stuck in 2007 with crysis graphics level, even getting worse and eating a ton of system resources and space. NOBODY talks about immersive and gameplay. Nothing new. We should PLAY, not watch the games. So that's a reason why I prefer even pixelated graphics but good mechanics from 1994 wtf. 2023 and there is nothing new or better. I'm sorry for my English. I don't speak English at all, but I tried. I hate new AAA games. Devs only think about payment system, battle pass, shops, skins (hello fkn cs go, dota etc.), etc. You may disagree and please, don't try to change my mind. I started to play from NES and saw a lot of old games which almost no one knows now. Even cell phone games (with buttons you know, 240x320 JAR). Sorry for a lot of text. This game was almost 10 years ahead of its time.
Apparently they used crew logs because they didn't want to ruin immersion with a dialogue system.
