  • I had a few of these logs drying and needed lumber for an upcoming class. I have no bandsaw so this is what I came up with.
    Thanks for watching.

Love paulownia, all my build-in clothes cabinets have this wonderful wood

I let the Paulownia weather the rain and heat for more than a year. Let it warp and bend as much as it can. Then heat treat it flat or plane it depending on how it is going to be used. I wish I can show some of the cabinets i made with it. You can make the drawers so smooth and airtight at the same time. It is an excellent wood for cabinet. Expensive, also. No one in US appreciates it unfortunately.

The biggest problem with Paulownia, for me, is that it's a nonnative invasive species in the US. Why would we create a market value for a fast growing species that outgrows and shades out the native trees? In order to perpetuate the historical species composition of our forests, it is imperative to limit the introduction of invasives. Yet when a market value is created, it is inevitable that those invasive species will be introduced simply because of the rapid growth from seed to slab.

@@elihue_redneckreview You can buy sterile plants, so the fact that it's invasive is of no account

So could this be used as decking over a pine stud wall and be a stout wall? Beyond guitars, veneer, and surfboards, I'm trying to understand the value of this wood in building.

Shou sugi ban siding, carved Japanese wedding chests, furniture, and surfboards are a few applications for Paulownia that I've seen.

It's commercially used to make lightweight plywood

Why not surface 2 sides, parallel-plane the 3rd then set the table saw to half height with the fence set to the desired board width (4/4) and then flip the log end over end after each cut? Don't have to adjust the fence and final planing should be close to 0.
