The municipal market Nuestra Senora de Africa or, more simply, Mercado de Africa is an emblematic building in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It was designed by architect Joseè Enrique Marrero Regalado and inaugurated at the beginning of 1944 to replace the Mercado de La Recova, by then small for the growing population.
Its style is 'neoclassical colonial' and is formed by a large central patio and two side patios and a floor below.
Its name is a tribute to the 'Virgin of Africa' and, in 2019, the british De Guardian included it in its list of the world's ten best markets.
