Meeting with the Local Chief Executives of Luzon (Speech) 3/7/2018

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke with the local chief executives (LCEs) who came from Luzon in a meeting at the Royce Hotel in Pampanga.
Addressing all local government heads present, the Commander-in-Chief recapitulated his campaign vows that his administration is currently implementing.
“Ang gusto kong malaman ninyo, para from the horse’s mouth, na ‘yun ang ipinangako ko: to stop corruption then drugs, at itong I will talk to the enemies of the state. Maybe I can talk to them peacefully or arrive at a compromise of whatever we can get from the talks,” he said.
He acknowledged the efforts of the local government heads, the military, and the police force in making the surrender of communist rebels possible in Mindanao, wherein a total of three batches of rebels already met with the President in Malacañang.
Likewise, President Duterte mentioned that he gave a six-month time frame for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Department of Tourism (DOT) to clean up Boracay and protect the welfare of the people in the island.
“There are always three things involved there. One is public health. People get sick. People suffer everything. So it’s health issue. Public health. Then public order. Because they do not want to move there unless they are being prodded by government or they try to prevent government from doing its duty. So it becomes an issue now of enforcing the law. And third is the public interest of the entire Republic of the Philippines. It is a tourist destination and we are proud of it and we would like to maintain it because we are earning so much money there,” he said.
He also gave a stern warning that he will shut down the open pit mining operations that deteriorates the country’s natural resources.
Together with President Duterte during the meeting were Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, former President Joseph Estrada, former President and Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and DILG Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Undersecretary Eduardo Año.
