It was 2001 The Ten13 album, I was 19 years old. I had seen Sammy's shows so many times, even by that age. I would hang out after the shows hoping to get an autograph. The only person that I consistently saw was Vic. This year Vic recognized me and spoke to me. I asked when Sammy was coming out. He suggested I go back to their hotel, the Ritz Cleveland. My gf and I went to the hotel and waited around. The entire Wabo band was there bs'ing with everyone. We sat down at the bar and Sammy walked in. He was only there a minute before he kicked out the bartender and started making everyone waboritas. My gf and I got so drunk we had to get a room there, it was over $500. I had to max out my first credit card on 1 hotel stay. Through all the penalties and late payments that night cost me thousands. I will never forget it. I met him a brief second a couple of years later and he signed the license plate on my Jeep.

I saw him around 1997 on his Cabo tour. Very cool and laid back. It was a fun out door show.
I met Sammy and Michale several years ago, I think was in Santa Barbara in a concert fo Chiken foot and they are super guys, the level of energy around them is incredible!!

Once upon a time I was the guy who walked around saying "it's Van Halen, man...not Van Hagar...". Life is so much better once you get your head out of your ass. This lineup is exactly what I remember rock being all about, not Diva Dave. Legends, the whole lot.

Sammy is such an underrated guitarist
He's underrated in everything he does, Van Halen I didn't listen to until Sammy fronted the band man. you just cannot stop that voice. On his TV show he goes to Tommy Lee's house and they bang out Rock Candy (Montrose) I'm sure you know who was in that band. Mike is there also with them it's one of the best versions I've heard of that freaking song. There's a part when Sammy goes somewhere with his lady guitar, but him, and Tommy lock eyes and they both F*cking that smile is something only 2 rock God's understand, because it was saweeeeeet so damn good!!!! It's on CZcams if have not seen it but you probably have. I watch it every month or so right along with Tom Petty, Prince Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame show which was so awesome

As much as I love Van Hagar, it appears as the decades roll on by, that Sam’s place in Van Hagar is more solidified than ever by his longevity and enthusiasm and passion for his craft. The man is still relevant at 70 in rock and roll. Awfully short list who have done that. (Jagger/Richards), McCartney, (Willie Nelson-Country).... Big shout out to Michael Anthony in Van Hagar as well and still with Sammy, (high vocal range). Those bass players never get their due do they? ☝️🕺
