Yes, long top shot. It's very popular for socal saltwater fishing. I transitioned this to to freshwater about 8-10 years ago. I use a phenix recon 682 or 683 casting rod. A 50 size reel will do. I currently use a daiwa alphas with sv spool. I also use my BFS gear for this technique. Great video
Robert Ramirez thanks for the input! Its always awesome to talk to you west coast guys. It's a different world out there. I'm not playing o talked to the guys at Duo for 3 hours at ICAST about west coast fishing.
Perfect timing with the video I just started researching spy baits for a reservoir that I fish, thanks Alex!
I actually have one, a duo realis. I hope to get something on it. 👍
Aww, clear water... bummer.
Realistic Fishing yeah the dirty water and this thing don't mix well.
I think a moderate action is better to keep those hooks pinned. Great video
They’re an awesome bait on Lake Michigan for smallmouth ! And you get an occasional surprise salmon on them too. I’ve had a little trouble with the back eye coming out or bending open on some fish but all in all a very dependable bait.
Been experimenting with the 90 myself, tried a 7' med cranking rod, this fall while shad were schooling, fished on a little larger line 12-14# sunline sniper, worked great, glass rod absorbed hits near boat and kept small hooks pinned. Water color was actually dingy, around a ft visibility, using white shad colors
this is the first time i've ever been the first like. Keep up the great content Alex!!
Great vid Alex. Most bites obviously come on the initial fall and first half of the retrieve. However took me a while to realize, as long as you’re reeling it slow, you are still getting the bait action on the second half of the retrieve too. I just think your percentage is lower on the second half because of the angle of the bait on the retrieve. I think some people real it back in After the first half of the retrieve is done. :-)
I like the way you pronounce the word "light".
Super interesting stuff man! I'd love to pick one up and try it. What was the name of that last one you held up?
Fish Hawk Duo Realis
Alex, look up the modified Albright/Alberto knot, more socal knowledge stuff for ya. Been using for all of my connections from 6# in freshwater to 150# in the salt. Way more low profile than the uni to uni.
Sweet video man. Something I still need to try.
I really want to try this technique soon. Maybe you can teach my like you did with the mag spoon. I have been catching a lot of fish on it. Also, I am getting pretty good with the hair jig
BassQuest for sure dude. I'll have to come down and see what we can do
Bassmaster says we can talk about this bait now. No more fishing it in silence and keeping it under wraps ;-)
Ben, I've seen you use the Arashi spin bait on your channel... do you have a preference of spybait brand / model?
Good Question! I've not fished enough of the models to be super knowledgable, but the Spinbait 80 GFIX model is my go-to. The Arashi is good, but it doesn't have the same wobble that the Duo Spinbait GFIX 80s have.
I've also heard a ton about the 90s being useful around current or bigger baitfish, but I've only really thrown the 80 GFIX and Arashi
Thanks for introducing this old timer to new techniques. Dual sinking prop lure makes me think of the old Heddon Dowagiac minnow (original spy bait?). Finding your videos to be very instructional. Thanks.
Glad I can help! Thanks for watching!
the old Heddon torpedo...
Sean Gilliam totally different bait and application
yeah, but it has the propeller... thats all i was getting at
Sean Gilliam oh gotcha gotcha. Thanks for watching.
Great information but I happily disagree with you on the water clarity. I just started fishing it recently here in North Carolina with very stained water and we absolutely crush them when the bass are feeding on the baitfish. If they find it just fine
LeadMunitions awesome to hear man! I just can't seem to get bit on it in water less than 5' clarity. Glad to hear your catching them though. Thanks for watching!
ENJOYED REVIEW
This one helped a lot man! I'm just getting into spybaiting.
I just had the back hook and and prop fall off one of my Spinbait 90's, never had that happen to me before.
k9feces wow I never heard of that happening.
Alex Rudd Fishing I emailed them about it and never got a response. Never had that happen with any lure.
Alex Rudd Fishing I just got a response and they will replace it. They said it wasn't tightened during assembly
That's good! Duo usually good about warranty.
How would you keep it from getting hung up? Better question is how would you follow the contour without getting hung up?
Steve Tucker I don't ever really coutour around things I can get hung up on. Like trees and what not. I usually will countour rock bottom. When I let it sink and start to reel it again I'll give it a subtle tug to get it up and then start reeling again.
I don't know if I'll ever be in clear water enough to use one lol
lojo.fishing maybe one of these days you can venture up my way and I'll put you on some stupid clear water.
Any input on the Arashi spin bait? I have a few of the G-Fix 80s, but the Arashi is about half the price. If the Arashi doesn't get bit like the Realis, the price doesn't matter at all to me.
Ian Kehler I’ve never personally thrown one. I know Ben Nowak has a few. I’m sure they catch fish. It make like the difference between a bandit and a DT same principle bait totally different action.
Great video, I murdered the smallies on Norris a few falls ago. 10 pound braid 8 pound red label and my leader is 7 to 8 full pulls streched arm length. Getting on the count down to fall and cool water. Not long now.
There’s a spin bait 60 that you can find on eBay
Never seen that one
Another1!!!💯💪👊
Good video as always!
Thanks for watching as always!!
Alex Rudd Fishing btw my 9 year old said you have a nice big beard lol we watched your last video together
Thats killer! Tell him I said thank you!
Alex Rudd Fishing it's actually a her. She's my little fishing buddy. Just welcomed my son to the world yesterday :)
Ayyee! Dude thats awesome! Congratulations!! It's always awesome to know their are dads out there passing on the passion of fishing!
does it work for inshore? 9feet ML rod and 20lb braid?
efuviolin I honestly have no idea. I could see it slaying some salt water fish though.
Why not the fg knot ?
The uni to uni has never failed me.
Your intro ...........What’s up guys Alex here and today I have a pretty cool video for you guys..................
Atm Bassin all day everyday son
Alex Rudd Fishing we all have that intro message that we use to much
Atm Bassin whatcha thinking like "what's up guys it's Alex and I like long walks on the beach and horse back riding"?
Yeah that works
Works amazing in dirty water
aaron francisco see I've never had success with it dirtier water. Are you still fishing it for suspended fish or tracking near the bottom and different kinds of structure?
Alex Rudd Fishing I just cast it out and fish it in a level of water , the smallest size is what I use
Im throwing the 80 on 5lb. maxima... its deadly""""""
I smash smallies on the 80. I throw it on a casting Phoenix rod. Ive caught smallies up to 5lbs on it and its tied on at all times.
My good buddy Ben Nowak has been doing the same thing! Go check out some of his videos I think you will dig them
Will do, this bait is amazing. I know a lot of guys that wont throw them because of price and speed you have to fish it. Know where I can get more 80's in pink?
@@handtohandcombat3535 ebay! I've picked up a ton of JDM colors on there.
Il look thanks, they are sold out all over the place.
