  • Y.Prabhu | Saashwathi Prabhu | Sri Krishna Gana Sabha | Tribute | Lalgudi 90
Multifaceted genius Lalgudi Jayaraman and Sri Krishna Gana Sabha shared a unique relationship. Since the mid 50s, R.Yagnaraman, Secretary of the Sabha was a great admirer of both the musician Lalgudi and the intriguing personality that he was. The reciprocal affection and rapport from Lalgudi made him an integral part of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. From then both the Sabha and the musician journeyed together helping each other to grow. Sri Krishna Gana sabha became Lalgudi's favourite pitch wherein he was welcomed to experiment and introduce many of his innovations like the Violin Venu Veena, jugalbandhis and trios. The Rasikas that turned out in such large numbers for Lalgudi's violin solo and duet concerts spanning his performing career speaks of the adulation and admiration he enjoyed. Many of the maiden performances by the doyen's disciples including his own son and daughter were performed in this haloed and coveted Sabha. This association between the Sabha and the Lalgudi family continues till date. Here is a loving tribute to the legend by Y Prabhu, the present Secretary of the Sabha along with his daughter Saaswathi Prabhu, talented disciple of Lalgudi.

This was like a live , impromptu walk through WIKI on The Maestro, the Parampara, with such a knowledgable critique on the musical and literary treasure that is his legacy. And the oral history was simply fascinating..... you are a lovely speaker too Mr Prabhu ... and such a treat for us to commemorate one of god's greatest gifts to the Karnatic world in this way...

Thank you Prabhu sir and Smt Saashwathi for sharing the outpouring of love, respect and admiration you have for the musical genius. Making the nuances of his music accessible to a large number of students and music enthusiasts around the globe is a great service on the part of Sri Lalgudi Krishnan and Smt Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi to make sure that his music is clearly understood particularly by those who like to render his compositions.
